    Small bit of bad news:

One of the hot topics raised in a hearing last week was what to do with online gaming sites such as pokerstars and Full Tilt Poker that have been accepting US customers against the government's wishes. Rep. Bacchus proposed an amendment that would block any sites that have been disregarding US laws regarding Internet gambling from obtaining a license. The prohibition for these sites was agreed upon in the Committee and the amendment was passed.

  2. Then everyone will just move back to party...If Party becomes the number 1 site again, you can bet your ass they will work hard to make everyone happy, just like they used to back then

  6. If this bill eventually makes it throught. The sites will be run by Harrah's and other casino. They won't be anything we play on now IMO.

  8. Harrahs and those companies will create sites that will blow away anything we have now, especially in customer service and rewards programs.

and hopefully they will allow foreign players.. juan time!?!?

  10. Hard to imagine Full Tilt or pokerstars would just disappear. It sucks if they do they are the ones who didn't leave the US players hanging before. I wonder what the chances someone like Harrah buys out one of the large sites. If they don't, will non US players follow the US players to the new site? The worst part IMO is PokerStars does so much to brand themselves in new markets, we need them. New markets equal new player which equals softer games.

  11. Not for nothing, but as a player I have no problems at all with what will happen to stars and tilt. They both knew they were taking huge risks then, and in the end, the gamble will not pay off for them. party was smart back then for what they were doing by pulling out, I said it back then, and I would love to see Party come back in as one of the top sites to play on. I sincerely doubt the quality of what we have been getting will change, because I am sure all the brilliant folks from PS & FT will just be absorbed into the industry like Harrah's or whatever else comes into existence, so we can probably have the same expectations of the industry as we do now. I can't imagine them trying to recreate the wheel.

I am for one 100% support of all this happening....I am tired of working in an industry where there is no regulation...if it means bye bye FT and Stars, so be it...they have had their run :)

  12. I'm fine with stars and tilt vanishing if it were to be regulated. Regulation means: no worries about checks/depositing, more US fishes, secure software, (probably) awesome customer service, to name a few. It sucks because I think stars did so much for us, but if it comes down to it, I won't be TOO upset. Fuck tilt though. They can burn.

The backlash on FTP is going to be huge! But meh they will still be around in some shape or form trust that. The players not so much.

CAN I get a HELL YEAH FOR REGULATIONS! AND REWARDS PROGRAMS THAT BENIFIT THE PLAYER! AND CUSTOMER SERVICE! ohhh my sounds dreamy!

Is what P has been anticipating? Are they part owned by Harras now?

  15. So, am I gonna lose my Iron man status? Sighhhhhh, I'm in month 28th.

  16. I have read and reread the cainogamlingweb.com article and I am trying to figure out what all this mean? What is to be expected in the near future for the poker industry?
  17. So is this something i should be worrying about anytime soon? Or is it usual legislation takes a while?
  18. I wonder when the amendment to block the sites that disregarded
US law will take effect and will it make it almost impossible to get
    our money?
  19. This is huge ****** news. As far as "blocking" ftp and stars, ummmm, yeah right. It will come down to those sites saying "how are you gonna stop us?" Basically, anyone will be able to play on stars and tilt much as they do today, and the US gov will eventually relent and let those sites obtain licenses, because they'll want a piece of the rake.

Anyone think this is a real possibility? I def don't wanna end up losing everything I have on stars..
  22. meh they will both cut a deal soon prolly. i mean they think they are operating with in the law so why wouldn't they.

not a sky is falling deal imo
  23. It passed 41-22! Forward it goes!
  24. I am not certain, but didn't the amendment talked about in the OP get voted down?
  25. First off this is one step in a long process. It's a step in the right direction but this bill has a long way to go before becoming a full fledged law. It has to goto the house floor and then if passed the same process is done in the Senate and then differences ironed out and then sent to the President.

Secondly, Harrahs/MGM etc. do not have the capital to dream of buying pokerstars or the like. Stars/FTP pushed hard for this and I'm not sure if the amendment entirely shuts them out or not. I would think not.

  26. FTP and stars will find a way around it, too much money involved not too and too many smart lawyers. Partner with casinos maybe, even if they structure it as a sale of software or some other weird way to get around the law.

    High powered lawyers > politicians

  27. The amendment proposed to ban all sites operating for US players now was added today, so while not so sure I agree with your statement about stars/FTP.
  28. So what happens next? All the linked article says is that there will be a roll call vote. What happens after that, and how long does it take to happen?
