I was playing a $200 hu on stars today and my opponent went disco before he could even play one hand.. I folded every sb for the entire first level and 3/4 of the 2nd level.. then I proceeded to take all of his blinds simply because the 25/50 level was just around the corner and I felt it was unfair to me if I let the blinds get this high because it would negate the skill advantage which I feel I have over most $200 hu players.. anyways he ended up coming back when he had 300 chips left and started crying about how this was 1/2 of his bankroll and that I was a total jerk for blinding him off - so I felt bad and shipped the monkey his buyin back..
I have mixed feeling about this because I dont think most people would have done the same for me - would you?
so p5's, whats the proper thing todo in this situation? -
i'd inform him that god is punishing him for poor bankroll management, and i was a utility of the lord.
-
There have been a few lengthy threads discussing this topic. If the search script wasn't horribly useless, I could find them. Oh well.
-
sit out until he gets back
-
yeah Ive read one concerning a 5k hu.. but it was a different situation - the guy joined the game because he KNEW that the other guy was disco..
ajfulp, what if i sit out and he only gets back when the blinds are 100/200.. thats ridiculous if you ask me.. I mean I dont want to just take his money - but I dont think I should give a worse player any edge that will compromise my money -
if a date doesn't show up for dinner, do you sit there and eat alone?...hell no, you head to the strip club and overpay the girl with the fake Australian accent to tell you that you are her own lil tazmanian devil! You did nothing wrong, IMHO.
-
If I were to give it back I would take out what I paid in rake.
-
yeah def - i took out the rake.. i shipped him $190..
-
Class act man, may the deck hit you upside the head in a large tourney.
-
lolz, thx dude - Lee is going to ship me 150k on sunday, I can feel it...
and btw, I didnt want to make myself out to be an angel - I mean I probably dont ship him his money back(unless buyin is 1k+) if he doesnt show up before the end of the match..
I guess I just want to get a feel for what the rest of the community would do in this situation.. -

Let me tell you what I would do if I knew your connection was bad and you were signed up for a $5k HU match. I would immediately register to take the other seat before someone else, and after you blinded off would ship you the $4900 before you even signed back on. This would be done for the sole purpose of keepng you from losing your $.
Bax" -
not the same situation..
-
You basically did the guy a HUGE favor by not blinding him off completely and then he gives you crap for it. You showed sportsmanship (within reason, as you mentioned you DO have to protect your investment FIRST)... and then he comes back and cries about it. I wouldn't have been as nice as you here.
-
i agree with jennifear if he was being a dick about it would not give him his money.
-
Nice gesture. Glad to see some class among the players.
A similar situation (or maybe not) occurred one time when a friend and I wanted to play HU. We were on IM and we agreed to jump into the next $100 one. I registered but, before my friend could, someone else joined. I told him how that seat was supposed to be for my friend. He makes a wiseass comment like "lose to me fast and you can play him next." I told him I'd lose to him if he gave me my buyin less the rake back. He says "lol". So I play it out and put two sick beats on him to win it. Never felt better in my entire poker playing career.

I should add that you showed true class.
-
lol OWNED.. good one Red.. that guys a def jackass and it should be a no brainer for a player with ANY class at all to just agree to ship it back -rake..
haha those beats are beautiful man - i love watching assholes go down in flames
karmas a bitch - -
tx jenn..
he did call me a jerk for blinding him off.. but the thing is, I genuinely believed him when he said it was 1/2 his bankroll - I checked sharkscope, and as innacurate as it supposedly is, it showed the guy as being down 6k lifetime in sngos on stars.. some people just dont know when to quit/drop to the micro limits i guess.. -
^^^^ duchebag
-
You aren't under any obligation to give him his money back and if he's playing a 200 heads up match with half his bankroll thats not really your fault. That said, it was an honorable thing to do.
-
SORRY DOGGZ, but its people like you that I wish were eliminated from online poker..
i mean you dont have to ship the coin.. but atleast be honest about it -
hell no. If you jump in a 100 SNG and I get there and you tell me it's "for a friend", I will tell you too damn bad. I would not refund your buy-in back. I would then laugh at you for playing a 100 HU with your friend and paying more rake when you could have played the 5 dollar for less rake and then shipped the other the difference
-
If I disconnect, I expect the other guy to take my blinds. As far as i'm concerned its fine, it would be great if they didnt, but usually I will take theirs if they disconnect.
-
Askesis..
why exactly is it TOO DAMN BAD? what are you losing by ending the match and shipping the guy back his money?.. 2 minutes of your life? $100 sngos on stars fill up every 2 seconds.. is that too long to wait for the next one?
and then you proceed to laugh at the guy for being HONEST and NOT dodging the rake(which im pretty sure is technically illegal btw).. -
Well, first of all, ending the match is too much of a liability. Either intentional or just the luck of the cards. For example, to end it say he would bet all but one dollar, I go all-in, and he folds. Well, if you hold AA, it can be quite hard to fold that last dollar. Sure, there are a lot of honest people who would, but there are also a high amount of players who wouldn't, and it's not worth the risk.
And your comment about dodging the rake being illegal. It might be, it might not be, but CHIP DUMPING (which you would HAVE to do to end the match), IS, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT, illegal. So I don't understand your point with that comment...
