  1. I am a fulltime father & police officer, so my time to play is sporadic and limited. However, my love for poker is unquestioned. I am constantly reading, reviewing and thinking about poker. I am determined to complete this task. I want to play JUST HU SNG's and build my roll to 10K by the end of the year. I am writing this to keep myself motivated throughout the year. I started on May 1st, 2008. I started with $40 in my Fulltilt Poker account. I will play at a given level until I reach 20 buy ins for that level. I know this is somewhat low, but I feel my ability can handle the variance and if I get too low I have no problem dropping back down a level.

I have been playing in the $6.25 HU NL turbo's, with the occasional HU NL Omaha SNG. Currently my bankroll sits at $190.00. So as 1 can see, I have my work cut out for me. I am up for the task though, and failure is not in the plans. Wish me luck. I would love to be able to just play poker (mainly MTTS) but at this point in my life, I am unable to do so. HU SNG's afford me the opportunity to play the game I love on a daily basis.

  2. regarding this, is there anyone that could provide me with some HU statistics? I watch livb112 and his ROI is somewhere near 6%. I believe mine is currently around 5%. I am winning at about 59-61% of my matches with a very small sample (300 matches). Can anyone more informed than I provide me with a winning percentage that I should be shooting to be around? Also, anyone with any ROI information solely for HU matches, I would greatly appreciate your help.

  3. lastly, I do realize that 10k is a bit lofty of an expectation. I will however, give my best to achieve this goal. I am afforded the chance to play throughout the day, but the timing is sporadic and the amount of time I can play at each time is roughly 25 minutes. Therefore, HU SNG's, is the only game that fits into my plan. I will admit that I am concerned about my ability to play the needed volume on a daily basis.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

  4. Jigsaw (trujm) is a $50 HU SNG Grinder. He runs at 14% ROI and 60% winrate, his profits just surpassed $19k on stars for $50 HU matches, his blog is www.holdemforaliving.com/blog

    Good luck at the tables.
  5. As you move up in levels you might want to consider increasing your amount of buy-ins from 20 considering the variance in heads up play is generally higher than most.
  6. HU has the least amount of varience. You're backwards, obv the more people in a match the higher the varience.
  7. AJAMBONE,

    Check out my recent post:

I did something very similar to you - started at a 10.50 deposit and moved up the limits everytime I had 20 buy-ins. Currently I sit at a $500 threshold with no intention of moving up levels, I just stick to $20 4-man HU SnGs and cash out anything I make above my $500. Again, holdemforaliving.com is great for the HU SnG grinder.
  8. Here are some of my stats although I play HU turbo PLO sngs.

I had a post on P5's a while back that was over a bigger sample size and included $22's but it won't let me search that far for it and I don't feel like looking forever.
  9. wow, thnx 4 all the responses. I did not expect to get many as I am sure this is a boring conquest to most. Everyone of them was very much appreciated, and I will be updating you all with my progress.

    Thnx again,

    bone.

  10. you will fail with only 20 buy ins

  11. GL Bone. Oh yea, right now I have a 13% ROI and that's been enough to build my roll and make regular cashouts. So there you go.
  12. ty, I am unsure as to what my actual ROI is. I am playing on FullTilt, not using my pokertracker, and only using sharkscope as a reference. Unfortunately, I am not a subscriber to sharkscope and thus can only view my total ROI (regular SNG's included). I wish I actually knew.

  13. I'm actually on a very similar mission myself. No set goal though, just want to improve my HU game. As for keeping track of ROI, just keep a piece of paper near the computer where you play and track your progress. I've only had a small sample size but I've been running at around 13% ROI, hopefully I'll be able to keep that up. I recently made the switch to the 4-man HU SNG. I think if you're trying to improve your ROI, these are the games to play. If you're a good HU player, you should be able to win 2 in a row more often than not. And every win here is like 1.5 wins because of the added person you didn't have to take out yourself. Good luck man!
  14. GOOD LUCK BUDDY,

dont play too far over your bankroll though and keep studying your game and if you have the discipline it can be done.
  15. most of the other post looked to say the same thing but ill give you my two cents. it is def possible to go from 190 to 10k you should be able to do it in under then two years too. 20 buy- in is fine for the 5-6$ but but when your up to 400$ i would still be playing 10$ and not go up to 20 till you have closer to 40 buy-ins. then keep moving up when you have between the 30-50 buy-in range and when you think ur game is ready to move up. no point in not moving up if you can win at the next level and you dont mind the swings. as for the roi. as for ROI a good player should be able to have close to 20% up thru the 55$ level hu sng..then would go down due to tougher players

gl with your mission see you on the hu tables in a little bit
  16. First off GL... you say you are a cop? dont keep your gun around when you play or you may want to use it. And dont play when on tilt!
  17. I stopped using PokerTracker at the beginning of the year. Too much work entering all that data after you put in like 25 games. Anyway, at the lower level sngs (less than $20 buy-ins) sharkscope isn't really needed because there are so many different players and most of them arn't very good. However once you get to the mid-stakes games and higher sharkscope is a must. You can get 200 searches for only $8.99 (along with 5 free ones a day) and it will more than pay for itself when you can find the fishes and see who the regulars are.
