Hey all, I'm still new to this game and learning, but I have had what I think is decent success playing small stakes MTT's. I have an extremely frustrating leak tho, this one I pretty much know comes with experience and feel, but when facing an unknown villian, I have had a tough time with over pairs versus all smalls flop when my opponent flops the set. For some reason lately, I've been paying these guys off like mad. I prolly awnsered my own question, but any other thoughts or advice is welcomed :)....thanks everyone!!

Its really tough to give you an answer here.
Are you playing them in position, out of position, what?
Easiest answer is to raise more preflop... to get out the sm. pp... or induce them to shove their small pp into your big pp preflop, which you want oh about 8 days a week and 6x on Sunday. -
Position has not seemed to matter in these instances, I just have set-itis it seems lol, I'm raising 3X or 4X depending on my position, more when I'm in worse position to try to correct this, just doesn't seem to be getting these guys to fold...and I'm being too stubborn with my large PP's

Like you said it will come with more experience, after awhile you have to think how the hand is played when it happends, when you see it over and over again it will happen naturaul
-
Also what is the buy-in? The lower the buy-in the more chips noobs are willing to call to see the flop.

First off, understand that alot of the time, folding big pairs on an all small flop is bad, and even if ur opponent flopped a set, its just a cooler, UL gg, etc.........
For the times it is justifiable, you just gotta stop and think about the hand and the way its played, and think about the possible hands that your opponent could have..........Sometimes its just obvious one pair is no good.............. -
I think you're being too results orientated here. running into frequent underpairs hittings sets on a dry board and stacking you is more of an issue of varience and bad luck than it is a leak in your or anyone's game. Even the best of players are going to frequently lose big pots in these situations, sometimes even get stacked. Although I feel confident in saying you've probably got multiple leaks in your game, I don't really feel this is one of them. Getting off these hands totally depends on the situation, the opponent, position, how deep you are, etc. etc. etc, and sometimes you're just not going to be able to fold. Keep your head up and keep grinding them micro MTT's!

EVER folding (big) overpairs on low boards in small stakes MTT's would be a huge leak in your game.
You can sometimes fold 77-99 og triple rag connecting flops, but never EVER fold JJ+. Expept of course in sick situations with at LEAST 2 allins ahead of you. -
coke...do you follow your gut tho? I seem to just have this nagging feeling that I'm paying off someone, then call to find I was right. Is this just experience that I'm lacking? This is not just the micro stakes, even 26 tournies on FT and the like.

"For some reason lately, I've been paying these guys off like mad."
Wait so on a board of 9 3 2 rainbow...you're holding pocket K's. You're supposed to fold this to a raise? lol.
Dude, its a cooler! You're gonna pay this off every time, including twice on sundays ....Unless you can see the guys cards, there isnt a person folding this. -
Ya these spots suck especially in micro stakes because micro players will check shove all in a small rag board with a hand like say 77, 66, 44, or A8 on a board like 582 rainbow or a board like this 553, but will also check shove it with 222 or 888.
So if I'm holding AA-KK... and they happen to have a set here I am just paying them. I think they more often have a smaller pocket pair or top pair with a decent kicker and think it's good. It's really really hard to flop a set so the chances of it happening vs the chances of some nut making a move on a board like that pretty much make it correct to pay this off everytime.
