I really dont understand the people who just puke math into posts to justify their play or to be critical of others its a complete joke imo. Poker is a game full of intangible variables and tendencies and once you know the math and how your hand does against basic ranges the rest of it is garbage and unneccesary. Anyone disagree? Want to fight about it>?

im saying.. if lil doesnt do the math, than fk it....
-
u obv have some impressive results... but yer wrong. poker is a game of incomplete information and math provides statistical information important in optimal decision making.
imo, and i dont wanna fight :) -

well said universe....couldn't agree more. i like what hellmuth said regarding the math and getting his chips in while behind even if pot odds dictated it. He just felt he would rather save those chips for a better spot when he felt he was ahead.

hes a clown. Basically steve what im trying to say is that there are a few basic mathematical things to understand. pot odds, how your hand fares against various ranges and things like that but to see people splatter these massive equations to find out that shoving A10 against a button raiser who's opening a normal range is 163 +cEv and stuff like that is just garbage

agreed i have played over 15k sngs in my life and dont think ive ever run one hand threw a sng wizard or some type of power tools or spew out some random ICM stuff. but after 15k sngs i dont really need a equation to tell me what is good bubble push and what isnt
and hellmuth raising half his stack and folding is a complete garbage play -
I agree, I do the basic maths to determine if my hand has equity against a villians range, but doing extra math to calculate exactly how +ev a play is doesn't seem important as poker players should only be looking at +ev or -ev

I have to agree and disagree
It is one thing to understand the math, it is whole other thing to be able to apply it, in concert with poker psychology, betting patterns, table dynamics, money payouts etc..., profitably.
IMO the whole poker stove and SNG tools craze has people shoving in their chips and making hero calls so much more often than they used to in certain spots late in tourneys and SNGs. I think it is applied incorrectly.
It is too easy to plug in the incorrect ranges into Pokerstove to justify a call. Don't have the equity, just plug in some more bluffs, there, now you have it. Also, it is too easy to bolster fold equity, always assuming the guys going to fold, and not taking into consideration that you've shoved on him or raised the last 4 orbits, hmmm, think he's not going to call you light....?
Poker is an ART, not a science, math is an integral part of poker and a must to succeed in the long run, but there is more than just the math.
In HH posts a lot of psychology, past betting patterns, and table dynamics info is usually missing, so people focus on the math because it is always attainable just from hands, the bets and stack sizes.
disclaimer, (I steam, I tilt, I completely ignore any rational thought when I feel like gambling....)
