I've decided that I am going to start tutoring some players. Although I might at some point charge money for lessons, for now I'm looking to practice 1 on 1 instruction and looking for a student.
So, please use this thread if you are interested in getting private lessons. Please tell me about yourself, your goals, and why you think you would be a good fit. I don't care how experienced or inexperienced you are, so anyone can apply.
Good luck,
tc
EDIT: you can PM me if you want to say something that you don't want on the board. However, I really can't respond to PM's as I've had probably 125 or so. And if for some reason you have my email, please don't email me... I'd like to keep all the app's in one place. Thanks!! -
I suck. Make me good please

Unless this is a gotcha post like the one I perpetrated earlier, I am interested. I simply want to learn the game better. I am an old guy, 42. Late starter. Goals are to enjoy the game to its fullest. Cant say why I would be a good fit, dont know what you mean by that. I know that you are primarily a cash game player and that is what I want to be better at. I dont want to be the supreme being of poker, just want to know it inside and out and enjoy the hell out of it when I play, knowing that I made the right decisions at the right time.
Psycho
If it is a gotcha, good on ya. -
I've been playing the game for several years, understand the basic concepts, understand some of the more advanced concepts, but have been out of the game for the majority of the past 4 months. An opportunity to be taught by one of the best internet cash game players on the internet would be just that, an opportunity for me. GL on finding someone worthy.

I play almost exclusively tournies but am very interested in learning a good strategy for cash games. I play 20-30 hours a week now, but if I had a phoenom poker tutor such as yourself I would change my schedule to play a lot more in the future. I've been playing poker for 1 year and change, but only taking it seriously for about 4 months. I love to learn and play poker, so I would be an ideal student IMO. I'm very serious about improving my game and think I will benifit greatly from some 1 on 1 instruction from an online legend such as yourself. My goals are to become succesfull enough at poker to pursue my other interests in life without having to work 30 years to achieve them.
I'm a hard worker, somewhat intelligent, and eager to learn. The only thing I can guarantee is that you won't be wasting your time working with me. I've tried poker training sites and I don't think I get as much from them as most do, I like to be able to have conversations and discuss things instead of being "taught", so training sites are not my cup of tea. I've long felt that if I was close to a great player that I could discuss the holes in my game and how I should improve them I would be much better for it. If you're looking to mold the next GP I would probably not be a good choice, but if you want to work with someone that is interested in picking your brain and adjusting his style and the type of play he is comfortable with and your knowledge of the game I would be ideal for you. -
I would definitely be interested in getting private lessons from you. I'm currectly a student at University of Illinois and live in the Chicago area during the summer. I've been very successful at beating mid-limit sng's, and was able to beat $200NL tables for most of this summer, but haven't been able to win any meaningful amount of money playing cash NL in the passt couple months. I would definitely appreciate learning from a great player to help me climb the NL cash ladder.

Wow, free lessons from a great player like yourself, how could anyone not be interested.
I'm 18, and looking to make poker more than a hobby. Have played everywhere from .10/.20 nlhe to 2/5 nlhe both live and online anywhere from 1 to 10 tables.
Lately have been grinding low stakes sitngo's and very recently picked up omaha h/l and have been playing mostly that of late.
Would love to become a better nlhe cash game player however, as that is where all of the money seems to be. -
hey.
im pooruser from ps, been playing for like 2 years. im glad to be at 10/20 now but i know my game lacks in some areas and ive still got miles to go.
thanks

Definately would be interested.
I usually play 1-2NL to 2-4NL, always considered myself to be a good player but recently realized that I throw to much money away with the leaks in my game. Actually looking for someone to help with these issues so I can increase earnings and take my game to a higher level. My goals are to continue to improve and eventually move up to play the highest cash games, and challenge you to a heads up match. -
GP i would love to be your student, i always watch when you are on if you are playing, and i like your style, read most of your articles, and am a big student of the game, i read a lot of poker books, and posts here and on 2+2 and try to watch most of the top players and see how they play their hands they have (when they are flipped over on the showdown)....it would really mean a lot to be a student of one of the best cash game and online poker players of all time
i started playing 7-card stud about 4 years ago, and became facsinated with all games about 3 years ago...and really learned how to play limit-holdem first, then nl...and now im playing a lot of poker as i work and in the process of transferring schools to become a CPA hopefully, i got my real estate license but only do that part-time...i have a lot to learn and learning from you would be great! thanks for taking the time to read this. good luck to you and to whoever you choose!

Started playing $50NL cash in April with $300, play $200NL properly rolled now. I have a great mentor now but never hurts to learn from another top player. I am thinking player, I go through my hand histories, discuss them with my mentor or on 2+2, and use PT/PA HUD when I play to peg a player as a certain style. I play about 25-30 hours a week at night and some on the weekend. My goals are to keep building my bankroll and continue to move up levels as I have been doing the last 6 months. The players are getting better though and the game changes at the higher levels, that I need help with.
-
I would love an opportunity to learn from one of the best! I recently cashed out most of my bankroll and am trying to start over. Ive never been a great cash game player though, but i love the game and would be willing to do whatever it takes to get better. I have plenty of time on my hands to learn and get better. My goal is to be able to play poker for a living and I think i would make a good student. I have had some success, most of it being in tournys but lately ive been in a slump and this sounds like the perfect thing to get me back and track. If you consider me I would do whatever it takes. Its not everyday one the best players offers to take someone under his wing.
Edit.. Im 24 yrs old and have been playing poker for about a year and half and unfortunatel I'm not a CR member at the moment. -
pics for the whole community are needed in order to make a fair evaluation i think

WOW someone's going to be super stoked!

Pointless to even write here, as 3k other members will "apply." Anyways, I started a blog to explain my goals, providing a good amount of background for readers. Here's my first entry: I am starting this blog 4 years after I began playing poker. My purpose is simple: I want to build a bankroll tilt-free. For the last three years, I have been a winning player. But not until this year--after having graduated college--have I made a serious attempt to build. And I have..I made a $25 deposit on stars and worked my way up to $630, but at about 4 bb/100 fin 18k hands. So I write with the hope that I will learn from others' posts and stay honest knowing others will be aware of my stupidity, if I am to continue making the same mistakes.
I feel I am more than capable of winning at 1/2 NL and beyond, but I need to get over my inclination to tilt away large portions of my br after a series of bad suckouts. So, for the year, my goal is to reach 8k and improve my emotional control at the tables. I will post as often as possible, I encourage feedback from all, and I will keep a running tally of my bankroll from day-to-day. I will be 4-tabling $25NL on Stars for now.
I have been improving over the last few months. BR now at $910, and I have been 4-6 tabling the same games I started on at Stars. Maintained a 10bb/100 winrate for the past three weeks. Hoping to continue with this pace, and guidance would be most welcome. -
I would love to learn from you. I am a Cardrunners Member. Ive been playing poker for 9 months. I blew about 1k in the first five months before i started to actually work on my game and practice proper bankroll management. Started winning when i deposited $50 on fulltilt and took off from there. Im now have about 30k in my roll. I mostly play 5/10 nl. I think I would be a good fit because i clearly have the potential but defintely have leaks that could be fixed by someone as knowledgeabale as you.
Goal- I want to be playing 25/50 by june or sometime over the summer. -
6 months ago i started with $25 and have built that up into a very nice bankroll. ive always struggled in cash games, and would really like to learn more and fill holes in my game. I dont have any specific monetary goals, i just know if i fill a few holes the sky is the limit.

21 yr old multi player, think cash games are completely different and havent been able to come out ahead often in them. would like to get more insight into how to beat cash games.
-
Hey TC- I am mainly a low stakes MTT players who occassionally tries the bigger game. I have more bubbles than I care to remember. I feel like I have some decent skills and strategies in place but need that little push/instruction to become a winning player. It seems like the same scenario falls into place most times in MTTs. The dreaded bubble. I try cash games occasionally, but really interested in sharpening my MTT skills,as I love the competition of getting through a big field. Would love the instruction. Keep me in mind. Thanks

My name is Gabriel. I'm 32 years old, happily married. I've played poker as a full-time job since November of 2005. I started with a $1000 BR playing at .25/.50 NL and have since worked up to playing $10/$20 NL full ring games. I don't play many tournaments, I do better in the cash games. I'm intelligent, and am able to master concepts once I understand them. I'm definitely a TAG player. I know that's not your style, but I want to broaden my scope. I have learned a lot this year, but have a lot to learn.
I'm easy to get along with, a good communicator, and highly motivated.
Thanks for your time,
GabrielSlade -
I have been playing small stakes sngs and tourneys 2 yrs and after a year of being a fish am now making semi-regular withdrawals. Cash games I am beating o8 on small 2/4 stakes but am not doing well with he cash games, and don't even play them . Before all that I was a backgammon guy and made $$ at backgammon clubs (but not lately) and used to play bridge as well.
Member of pxf and former member of rpt.
I have been a soccer coach for kids, and software teacher in the workplace, so I'm very coachable and willing to learn, and I'm sure (well I hope anyway) I can help you be a better tutor!
Relative to this site I'm an old fart, but still under 50. My goal is to take my love for the game to the next level and make enough $$$ to quit my job. And I think NLHE games are the way to do it.
Thanks!
Steve
