I started playing online poker a couple years ago with a friend but kind of broke even in the long run. I have since made between $1k and $5k on numerous occasions and each time lost it all. None of this money was money that I deposited, and I have put less than $200 of my own money into online poker. I feel confident with my sng play and my TAG mtt style, but need help with bankroll management, game selection, and most importantly the eventual transition into a LAG style cash game player who feels quite comfortable a middle to high NLHE stakes and games. Thank you.

Taylor,
I have been playing online poker profitably for the past year now, and I have been a cardrunners member for about half a year. I am 20 years old, and a student at the University of Michigan.
I believe that I am a great fit, because I am a very dedicated and persistant player. Like you, I started just trying to make some extra cash with $100 in my party poker account. I have since turned poker into a part time job and am making a very good amount of money just 4-8tabling $.50-$1 NL and $1-$2NL. This isn't enough, though. I want to be able play at higher limits, and with more confidence. I believe I can be a profitable player at the higher levels, but I am not rolled and not willing to give it a try. I understand that the game gets a lot more difficult when you get up to $5-10NL and above.
In poker, like everything I do, I always strive to be the best, but poker is a tough game to find your leaks and know where you ARE NOT making the correct plays. I truly believe with your help that I can be a very successful high limit player. I believe I have very good bankroll management skills, but not yet the skills to play mid-higher limits. I have seen your style of play and your thought process that you go through each hand. It is really something that I aspire to in my game everyday.
I hope that you can see me as a good fit as your student as I think I am. Please contact me if you are interested in having me as a student or have any further questions.
Thanks,

I consider myself an accomplished tournament player and a mega donk at cash games. I fear cash games as the swings can be just too great and it takes me from the comfort of knowing exactly what I risk in a tournament (one buy in).
At times I would venture into the 25-50 NL game at UB after a big tournament win, and although I was ahead of the game, I tucked tail and ran when I lost a nearly 30K pot one day with top set.
That being all said, I feel I have to master cash games in order to be a better all around poker player. At this stage when I play cash games(which is rarely), I only play 10 handed and wait for the nuts, aka nitville. The odd part of this is I crave short handed play in a tournament or a sng as I become ultra aggressive and take control of my table, yet I can't flip this same switch in cash games.
I have no clue as to what is the true technical correct style for cash games(I imagine it changes due to table dynamics), but I have to believe that becoming an accomplished cash game player can only raise my tournament performance.

I am ranked as #1 internet tourney player, and I used to kill the 2-4 and 5-10nl games, but since then I haven't played cash in a while, and no longer feel comfortable, (and certainly don't think I could dominate now). However, with some quality instruction, I might be able to become a very good player. I'm a very dedicated student, Pick me GP!!:)

I have to say this sounds great. Maybe exactly what ive been needing to finally push beyond 1/2 and 2/4 nl.
Im 24 and currently my only income is from poker ( not through choice).
Ive been grinding it out at the lower levels for a couple of years now, but with having to live off the money means not having enough bankroll to ever really get anywhere (seems to rise and fall 8k to 12k etc constantly) obv due to some lacking skills and a couple of leaks (tilt grrr).
im also a CR member and have learned lots from all you guys' videos, but getting to talk and learn from you in person i think would help so much more.
Im totally motivated to get better and obviously have plenty of time to play, learn and improve.
my immediate goals would simply to improve enough to move up 1 level at a time, finally make some decent cash so i have more options for the future than i currently do.
well hopefully you'll consider me for this and im looking forward to finding out.
thanks Taylor. gl -
I really got into poker after watching my buddy Mikes' (shipitthisway) success. After my first 2k cash in a pokerroom $50 mtt, I decided I wanted to learn as much about this game and its trials and heartaches as possible, so I read anythign I could get my hands on (P5's, CardPlayer, and spending about $300-$400 on poker related literature). I feel one of my greatest strengths is knowing when to let go of a hand, which is ironic because i feel one of my greatest weaknesses is at times underestimating my opponents hand strength in big pots.
I have been on a rough run as of late, and am working through the frustrations by staying within the game I know how to play. This is where I feel a tutor would be benefifical, to show me ways to expand the game I already know while making myself more comfortable with the game i know.
I play mostly mtt's, though I have made pretty good money playing .50/1 and 1/2 cash. I have an extreme interest in picking up a personal tutor, and will put 110% of myself into expanding my game into unfamiliar territory. I have had good success to this point, but know there is so much more that I can accomplish. -
GP,
I'm 18 years old, currently a part-time student, and play poker about 20-30 hours a week. I've been playing online since I was 16, started with $100 went bust about 4x on my brothers account, and then had a semi break through and made a few thousand dollars. Since then I have practiced very diciplined bankroll management and have never gone into my wallet to play online. I have a current roll of 1k (cashed other 3k out a few weeks ago in fear of online poker ban.) I play strictly NLHE, cash games, SnGs, and MTTs. My current goal is to take this 1k on pokerstars, and by playing MTTs and cash games, try to build it to 5 figures. I do not plan on taking any shots, and will stay within my bankroll to acheive my goal. I've read all the books, have all the software, frequent all the poker forums, and have played over 500,000 hands of poker, but I still have many leaks in my game that I need fixed. I prefer to play a LAG style of NLHE, especially in cash games, and have varied success. I've watched your cash videos and feel my style of play is similiar to yours, just not anywhere near as advanced. I'd love the opportunity to have you as my mentor, and would be as devoted a student that you could ask for.

hey taylor,

I'm a 20 year old student currently attending UCSB. I started playing nearly 3 years ago at an Indian casino near my hometown. I played for fun at first but after meeting a group of fellow poker players in the dorms last year I have since been taking my game very seriously. Starting about 10 months ago I have been reading every poker book I can get access too. (One of the other players I met has a library of nearly every poker book I've ever heard of). I've also been reading pocketfives.com multiple times a day since I found it 10 months ago and have only recently created an account and started posting. I haven't had much money to play with since I went away to college (Eating is more important than poker...sometimes =P) but was inspired by Chris Ferguson's challenge to turn $1 into $20,000. I deposited $20 on Pacific Poker and ran it up to $1500 before having to cash out to pay for bills/books and my car. During summer I deposited another $50 and got it to $2000 before I cashed it out so I could purchase a lap top for school. I believe that I am a decent player, but I still have a lot of leaks in my game. My main goal is practicing good bankroll management to create a bankroll that allows me to play MTT's and high stakes cash games. I would love to be able to benefit from some 1 on 1 sessions with you. I've watched you numerous times on UB trying to figure out hands and strategies and just being entertained by the high stakes play. My bankroll is rather small at the moment, only $500. The only problems I could forsee is that I am still a student and my college work comes first so I don't get to play as much as I would like. Thank you for the consideration and my e-mail is jordanstern@umail.ucsb.edu.

Hey Taylor,
I would be very interested in lessons. I am a 30yr old low limits player and primarily play SNGs but am very interested in becoming a successful cash game player. I am keen and willing to learn. Am based in the UK but am extremely flexible on time. Am currently a cardrunners member. -
I have been playing for a couple years now, and have gone from being a novice to a much more experienced player through talking with other players, logging a great deal of hands, and being a CR member. I've been a successful winner in cash games (5/10NL, 3/6NL, 2/4NL), but feel like there are still obvious holes in my game. There are certain plays that I would still like to develop but, more importantly, I need to learn how to better deal with the mental aspects of the game...rushing, tilting, bad beats, etc. I also feel that my tournament knowledge and sng play is a bit sketchy. Ultimately, I would like to be a successful player in all facets of the game.

TC,
great opportunity for someone, might as well be me.
I do better live than online overall, people reading is an instinct I guess. I have been playing online for 3 years on my original $25 investment, BR is small but I've taken a couple of draws on it for family emergencies. My PT ROI's are from 8.09 to 45.71 depending on DB, my ring game (least of my play) is 3.67 BB/100 I still don't know if these #s suk or not I guess this post will draw flamers of all sorts, so I should know soon. I can't work anymore due to a few recent injuries, so poker would be perfect. I live in Alaska, so the nearest B&M is in Canada, 800 miles from here. HELP Please.
Win or lose, thanks for offering your services, I think it's pretty noble.

GP,
I have been a cardrunners member since May. I started out as a limit novice and was break even for nearly a year. I decided it was time to start making money, so I signed up for CR. I continued to play limit and SNG's while studying the videos on your site. I gradually started the transition into NL cash games with 50NL in September. I have worked my roll up to where I can safely play 400NL. I feel pretty good about my play. I do feel I call down too often, is one of my weakness. I want to continue to improve and feel personal coaching would be very useful in my my skills development. I am on most evenings, after my daughter is ready for bed. I would really appreciate the opportunity to work with you. -
I am pretty good at tournaments but my main goal is to become an above average cash games player. Now I play 1/2 and 2/5 NL live and mainly .5/1 and 1/2 online even though I am a donator in the live games. I am about to graduate from college with a finance degree and I will be gettin an MBA but I will have to pay for all of grad school by myself. Cash games is where the money is and I believe with your insight I will have no problem excelling in poker. Pick me!

I am applying. I am a student of the game always ready to learn a few things. I usually play cash games and have many wholes in my game that needs fixing. I am a quick learner and I very eager to learn to play the game and make some money. I also live just outside across the Illinios/Indiana border so if we needed to do a few live sessions that wouldn't be a problem. There are alot of people applying so I know my chances are slim , but that u for the consideration and for being cool enough to help a few of us sucky players out.I am 29 and I have been playing for roughly 2 years. I work as a bartender now so I have alot of free time. My goals are to be a winning player and to be able to withdraw every now and then. And of course some day to become semi-pro, lol I think that is as far as I can go, and I want to eventually move to vegas. Just want to be totally prepared for all of this. Thanks again bro!!!
I am a cardrunner member for awhile now, but haven't purchased do to dial up. So put me in whatever pile u want me in lol!! good news dsl is coming by dec. I can't wait . Live in boonies -
Hey I'm 23, love to play poker, party, and travel. Playing poker can support the partying and travelling if you're good enough so thats what I wanna do. I'm decent at sngs and pretty mediocre at cash games. Thats about it...

My profession is teaching and that is as much of a passion of mine as poker so I think we can both learn a lot from each other. My school has had the highest crime rate out of any Middle School in Los Angeles County over the past two years (according to our campus LAPD officer) so I have had the pleasure of saving lives for a living at 26. Unfortunately I get paid crap for the important work that I do. My dream would be for me to give my family a comfortable enough lifestyle financially through poker so that I can continue to stay in the classroom forever. Sadly enough, I am already feeling the pressure and need to move into the BS administrative aspects of the profession to make more money in only my 4th year. I am extremely excited about this opportunity and would give you many reasons to be proud of my progress and your accomplishments as my teacher.
Sincerely,
Kage -
I guess the word limitation on PM's has forced me to post here.
<SPAN>I recently quit (for like the 9th time) playing poker because I couldn't handle the swings. My record illustrates that I'm a moderate winner at NL 100,200 and 400 and I would love to be your student. Part of the reason I quit is because I'm a graduating senior at Columbia and I decided that it's just an uphill struggle to keep playing poker. When I'm winning my friends give me crap about being a lucky bastard and when I'm on a downswing I get no support from anyone and often wonder if I was just getting lucky while on the upswing.
For the stakes I play I don't have any problem with bankroll...I lost 3K playing NL 100 in the last 3 weeks before I "quit" but I've tucked away a little over 10K in my savings account. Generally what happens with me is that I go on a nice run of about 6K in winnings, then I run into a rough patch and lose anywhere from 1-5K before I run away and quit again (25% of the losses can be attributed to tilt).
With some actual 1on 1 guidance I think I'd be able to improve my game tremendously, especially from someone as talented as you. I play MTT's mainly because I find them exciting and fun(or as a cheap method of tilt); but I know that cash games are where the money is at and I know cash games are where my talent(if any) lies.
I might also add that next semester I have 1 required class in order to graduate so I will have plenty of free time on my hands. Originally my plan was to take a fulltime job offer and intern 2-3 days a week during next semester, but I would much rather be your understudy. My other interests include fine dining (Japanese/Sushi especially; I've been to and rated 90% of sushi restaurants in NYC (no, this is not an exaggeration and this addiction is a huge drain on my bankroll). Other than that I'm really interested in nutritional pharmacology (READ: Bodybuilding and personal fitness). Currently I'm rehabbing my wrist and have been out of the gym for a good 6 months but I normally walk around at about 167lbs and bench 275 for reps, squat the same, and deadlift in the 400's. I tell you this in case you are interested in either because then our relationship would be mutually beneficial.
JWangSDC@gmail.com if you're interested at all. I'm probably going to delete this post in the next 48 hours because I don't like posting so much information publicly.
I am a CR member btw</SPAN> -
I will name my first born son taylor, as well as ship my ex girlfriend down to champaign to give you blowjobs if you pick me. Seriously, not even joking.

tc,
I consider myself a good cashgame player. I've spent my time studying and reading about the game, and I've had a lot of success... in full ring situations. Recently, I decided to try to develop my game beyond what I was comfortable with and started playing more short-handed games. I feel the best players thrive in these situations, and someday I want to consider myself one of the best. For the past month I shacked up and moved to 6 max; even looking for 3-4 handed games to play in. It's been humbling to say the least.
Today for the first time in a long while I sat staring at the computer after several hands in which I just flat out got outplayed. I pride myself on my handreading ability, and I just have not been able to transfer my ability from a 9max table, to shorthanded situations. It's interesting that you posted this today, because I consider you are one of the best players, specifially thriving in shorted games. The biggest reason I think I'd be a good fit is that my problems are (relatively) small, and fit your abilities perfectly.
Thanks for the offer,
- DoGGz -
I'd love this opportunity Taylor. I've been playing now for about 3 years and a member of these boards and also cardrunners for quite some time. Have a huge passion for playing the game and learning from the best players like yourself. Ive had some nice success in tournaments in the last year with several FT's and a few wins, but am always trying to improve my game. The one thing I love about your site is watching your cash game videos which is an area I am definetly lacking. I played alot live when I lived near A.C. and had some ups and downs but have hit a wall when it comes to online cash games. My style would definetly be more TAG then anything and watching your videos I def try to mix up my game to a more LAG style like yourself but cant seem to implement it into my game. Atleast not as well as I have in tournaments. Probably one of the biggest problems for me had been losing much of the nice cashes I end up with when playing so well in tournaments and not having the same skill set to win in cash games. Maybe its the dealing with actual money rather than the chips i have for my tourney life with a buy-in invested. I really dont know. Either way I think this would be a really awesome opportunity for me to improve my game and just an awesome experience overall being that I have so much respect for your game. I hope whoever you choose realizes the same and takes their game to a new level as well. Thanks either way for the chance and GL to all.

I'd be interested Taylor. Been playing poker for a few yearsnow. Up until this year mainly grinding out limit hold em. Last year I won a sat into PCA and cashed there in Jan and mainly playSnGs now with some occasional tournaments. I've tried severaltimes unsuccesfully to move into smaller stakes NL cash games but haveyet to get comfortable in the games there.
*Edit* I'm also a Cardrunners member. -
Hi Geen Plastic,
I'm bfactor. I have been a cardrunners member since this spring. I joined cardrunners to get some help making the switch from being a long-term winning sng/tourney player to being a long-term winning cash game player. Unfortunately it did not work out so well, and after losing 1k of what was then my 2k bankroll to very low stakes nl cash games (mainly just .10/.25nl) I decided to give up on cash games and switch back to tourney/sng poker. I continued to do well in my super-low-stakes sngs and tourneys and ground my bankroll back up to 2k. And that is where I am right now.
My current main-grind is to 10-table the $4.40 180-man sngs on pokerstars. This looks like it should yield me a long term expectation of around 15-20 bucks an hour (assuming dead-table-replenishment once maxed at 10-tables) according to my calculations, and it is what I have been doing recently, and will most likely continue to do until I reach 5k. At that point I will have to make a decision on what I want to play instead (as I will be grossly overbankrolled for the $4.40 180-mans by then, and sufficiently bankrolled for their $22 180-man cousin-tourneys.
Well, if you DON'T pick me, I will most likely just continue to 10-table the $4.40 180-mans until I reach 5k by around december-january. Then I will most likely switch to doing the same thing, but with the $22s instead.
If however you DO pick me, I would want you to teach me how to be a consistent winning player in the long run at cash games. If it were up to me, I would much rather be a cash game player than a tourney or sng player, because it would be a lot easier to schedule poker, since I could start and end any time I wanted, so this is the game I wish I was better at.
K, that's pretty much it.

Hi GP
I am 19 years old and I am in my 2nd year at McMaster University.
I have been playing poker for a few years now but about 5 months ago I realized that the real money was in cash games, and thus started my cash game journey. It was at this time that I joined CardRunners. I, like many others, wanted to become a high stakes cash game player so I started in .1/.25 NL and worked my way up and I am in 1/2 NL (6 max) currently. I set goals for myself monthly and I hope to be in 5/10 in the next 3-4 months. This month my goals are 30k hands @ 6-7ptbb/100 in 1/2 NL. I would be a perfect fit as i would like to take the next step in become a great player such as yourself.
All the best,
Chris -
Hey, Im 21 live in Manitoba Canada. Nothing much to do besides play poker in my opinion. I have been playing poker for about 4 years and started taking it seriously about 1 year ago before then it was just home games etc...I want to become a winning player and to have the oppurtunity/chance to not only learn from a great player but maybe oneday myself become a great player. I know my chances of winning are very small but I had to give it a shot because its a great oppurtunity. I think Id be a good fit because I have a passion for poker and try to learn something about the game everyday. Your help/advice would only improve my game. Good luck everyone and the best to whoever gets chosen. Congrats. My fingers are crossed.

Green Plastic,
I have enjoyed watching you play and reading your articles. It would be a priviledge to get tutilidge from you. I have been playing fulltime for 2 years now mostly as a 2-4 5-10 no limit player with some tourneys. I have tried to mix live play and online. Thanks in advance
