I haven't watched a poker video in some time. Today, I decided to watch one, covering super turbos. My sng game needs work.
Anyway, In this particular video, instructor picks up a3 off in the cutoff, with 6.5 BB....It was 8 handed at the time.....Instructor folded, um is this fold not losing a ton of value in an ST???????
Found another one: 5 handed, with 10x UTG with a9 off...I auto shove both of these hands, and instructor folded both.
What u guys think about these two spots? -
hand 1 shove
hand 2 fold -
accurate, think i know who this instructor is your talking about 2
-
No one can give you a proper response because you havent told us the antes, the payout structure, or stack sizes.
-
it has alot to do with the size of the stacks in the blinds... i'm asuming we're talking about FTP's super turbos.. i prob. jam 1st hand.. and muck the 2nd.. but on hand 1 if the button is stacked up, and both blinds are short, i fold.

The elevater dont go to the top floor does it
-
I assume you are saying he has 260 chips at 20/40...
8 handed in the cutoff I am comfortable folding that... depending on who is in the blinds.
Second hand is prolly always a fold.
we've played hundreds of games together and i always thought you were a bit light with meh aces in certain spots... but we both win despite playing it differently. -
A3 is certainly a plus ev chip wise shove....maybe he just thinks there are better spots?

Exact blinds and stack size would be more useful, imo. If it's 255 chips at 20/40 from the CO with A3, I shove, but it's closer than you think. I disagree with the instructor here. If the blinds are 15/30 here I can't fold fast enough.
The 2nd one is a clear fold. You underestimate the power of position. In lots of end game situations in the STTs you can shove ATC almost always with 10 bbs or lessfrom the SB (I choose not to most of the time only because I don't want regs pegging me doing this) and can only shove very, very good hands UTG. Position is key all through these games.
This is the way I look at it. Shoving through 4 people instead of 1 means there is 4x as much of a chance that someone will call with AA, KK, QQ, AK ect. The hands that are actually calling are ALL beating you. This is why it's not profitable to raise through lots of players unless your STACK SIZE indicates as such. 7-10 BBs means I have time in STTs. If I have 4-6 BBs, the value from taking an uncontested pot, even including the risk of being called and beaten, increases my stack size by a very large percent.
When you shove with a big stack (8-10 bbs) from an early position your value is not gained by taking the blinds since it is such a small portion of your stack, it's gained by having players call with hands you are ahead of (AQ+ over A8 type hands or whatever these donks are calling my EP raises with). -
fwiw...just because an instructor does something, it doesn't mean it was correct

Gags30 is an instructor at PocketFives Training . To get more of his advice and to watch his training videos, click here.

Not saying what's right or wrong, but 2 BB's is like deep stacked in these things. You can seriously generate FE w/ a 1.5BB stack in the super turb sng's. Like gags said (I think) just because an instructor does something a certain way doesn't solidify in stone the move being profitable or not.
FWIW I find it easier to really pick apart shorter stack shoving ranges and play real aggressive on the bubble when I have chips. Also shoving a lot wider when it folds to me in any LP when I still have plenty of FE against shorter stacks. Everyone prob knows this, just my .2 -
