i got a reply to my email asking how to make a privae tourney.
Dear Eric,
We'd be happy to set up a private tourney. We need a few days notice
and some information from you. Tell us the tournament name you would
like to use, the date and time, the buy-in amount, and the usernames of
the players.
We will set up the event and add the users. We will deduct the buy-in
from their accounts.
It is your responsibility to keep the players informed that they are
registered and that we are taking the buy-ins. We will not be sending
them any confirmation emails.
Please let us know how we can help you with this event.
Best regards,
Daria
Customer Service
so leave some posts on what kind of tourney youd like to see. -
Yes, we definitely need to get some P5 tourneys on UB for different ranges of buyins so the cheap folks like me can get some action. You could use the forum as a signup sheet.
-
well ya, just start posting ideas. $10?
-
I'm down for anything $10-$50 anytime...just post and they will come.
-
yea good idea.
-
what woukld be a good day and time?
-
sounds like a good idea im defintely up 4 it wotever the buy in
-
Any day would be good for me. I would prefer a 7:00 pm est starting time with a buy in around $20, but would probably play up until 9:00. Let me know day and time and Im in.
-
I would in for a $10 weekday game maybe even $20 at 9 pm or so. Any day except for Thursday would be good for me.
THUNDA -
I'm a little bit disturbed by UltimateBet's response.
"We will set up the event and add the users. We will deduct the buy-in
from their accounts. It is your responsibility to keep the players informed that they are registered and that we are taking the buy-ins. We will not be sending
them any confirmation emails."
What is stopping someone from setting up a $100 buyin private tournament, submitting a long list of UB players (obtained from your fine rankings), then cashing out after they "win" the private tournament? Just seems very strange that UB would deduct a buyin from a player's account based on an email from a potentially unauthorized third party. Am I misreading or misinterpretting their response? -
WOW! I never thought about that. That is a little scary. I think Im going to email UB and set up a tourney with PhilHelmuth, Gummybear, and Mahatma. The buy in will be 10k. As long as none of them find out I will be sure to profit 30k. More than my yearly salary! lol.
-
ya i thought that was a little wierd. they need to offer a password option so we dont ahve to send them a list.
-
I'd think about a $10. I'm not too good, but I'm sure I would learn a little bit.
-
The password idea has some holes in it too. In the past when a freeroll has been set up with lets say a $500.00 prize pool, the password is leaked out and 800 players show up for an event that originally was supposed to have 100 entrants. Every system has holes in it, that's the problem with setting up private tourneys. By allowing private tourneys though, UB has guaranteed that no one would get ripped off. So far, as far as I'm aware, there hasn't been any issues. So all the fears being voiced are hypothetical. Regardless, the head of customer service posted here himself that the players had nothing to fear in being part of a private tourney on UB.

KK, thank you for chiming in here, your opinion is definitly wanted. However, it seems that you havent really addressed the question. All you really said was "as far as I know, nothing bad has happened". The issue here is what COULD happen. Someone made a joke post that really begs the question "whats to stop someone from doing this?". The post referred to someone setting up a private tourney for PhilHelmuth and others, with a 10k buy in, then not telling them about it and collecting the money. Is there, in theory or fact, anything to stop this from happening? Again, we appreciate your comments and look forward to your response.

What has been posted thus far shows that the system is not foolproof. There are tech issues at UB being worked on that will make the system more failsafe in the future. The choice right now UB has is to run with the system they have and guarantee that no one gets ripped off, or not run private tourneys at all. They would like to be involved in the private tourneys thus keeping their clients happy and have guaranteed that no one would get ripped off. I was discussing the different ideas to make the system easier and more efficient with tech and customer service and almost every system has holes in it. Hopefully a system will be set in place that minimizes the risk and reduces the work involved from UB's end. For the time being, UB has guaranteed that no one involved has anything to risk, other than the tourney directors. Ultimately, UB has taken the responsibility for making sure their players are safe.

My solution would be a combination of both formats. Have an invite list that one person running the tournament could add or delete names as they wish. It is then up to the Invited players to log in and pay the entry fee after they give the password. If you know the password and are not on the list you would not be able to join. Also if you are on the list but cannot play that night you will not be charged the buy in if you dont sign in.
-
I agree with your suggestion as well. This is a Tech issue that will take a bit of time to get resolved unfortunately.
KK -
KK again, I dont mean to be a jerk, but you STILL havent really answered the question. Is there something in place to stop people from simply lying about who is registered for their tournament? If someone registered me for a $5 tourney and the money was taken out of my account without any notification, I might not even notice its gone. This question can only be answered one of two ways:
1) There is nothing to prevent this fraud from taking place
2) The current system prevents this type of fraud by....<insert safegurd here>
Please answer the question with one of the 2 above answers. Again, sorry if I sound like a jerk, but youre kinda skirting around the question. Thank you. Also, from a standpoint of solutions. Simply sending out an email to all registered players as soon as you take out the money would be an EASY fix to this problem. Thanks again KK! -
Super - i think what KK is saying is that UB have guaranteed that their players money is safe - therefore if you've been defrauded that UB will credit your account and reclaim all monies for the tournament director - thats how I read it anyway.
-
Thats cool, I just want to hear that from UB (or their ambassidor) in the format I stated above...if they dont want to do that, its ok, Ill just stop playing there.
-
I agree with supermoves that sending an email when someone is registered for a tournament would ensure that a person is notified of their entry. Come to think of it isn't that exactly what UB does for their tournaments when you enter one? DOH!!
Biggy -
On the private tourneys, no email is sent out. Again, that's a programming issue. All these tourneys are set up manually. I have said that there is flaws in the system Supermoves. I don't know what part of that you didn't understand. I feel like I am trying to explain quantum physics to a grade one class. Have you ever played in a private tourney at UB? You would base your play at UB on how the private tourneys are set up? If you don't play them, what exactly would your issue be? I did like, and so did support, your idea on emailing the clients in a private tourney but again, that's a programming issue that would have to be resolved in time. UB has guaranteed that no one would get ripped off. Other than not running private tourneys until the programming issue on those tourneys is resolved, I don't know what else you would want.
What is going to start to happen is this though. After each private tourney, the monitoring staff is going to do a check on absents on each private tourney (if there was money deducted) and contact them by email. This will be an added security measure to help protect the clients.
I just hope this forum does not become another like recpoker where everyone gets flamed for every single little possible imaginable thing. I would hope that helpful advice and suggestions could be gained through this forum.

supermoves you dont even play on UB...why the debate?
