Seems like some pros like to ask amateurs for chip counts, do you have to respond to them? Or can the dealer just count??
-
you can let the dealer count them
-
Can you tell them that you prefer the person to answer ? or is that just pushing it? Ever seen anyone at the table fighting over this??
-
No, you don't ever have to say anything. They can't make you. If you would prefer not to respond the dealer will just do it.
-
In most places, you can only ask for a chip count on any chips that that player puts in the pot. If he has a stack still in front of him, you can only look, you can ask how much, but the dealer cannot count those not in the pot, nor are you required to tell.
-
You are however, obligated to keep your chips in plain view, in clean stacks, with the higher denomination chips in front.
-
The dealer will make the count - you don't have to say a thing. The dealer should only touch your chips to count once someone has asked - not before.
-
I've gotten into arguments over this before. If someone ask me what I have back, I lift my hands to show them and I don't say anything. All of my chips are in plain view, with all of the larger denominations out front, so anyone with a working pair of eyes can see clearly for themselves. A couple of times people have persisted, saying things like "EXACTLY how much?" to which I tell them that if they want an exact chip count, they should ask the dealer. It isn't my job to tell people how much I'm playing.
-
You can absolutely sit there as still and as silent as you want. You can even walk away from the table and not say a thing.

next time you are at a live table, watch the face of the player doing that shit. you know they have a small penis or don't get laid.

i dont know about the above said comment, but ive been to the majority of cardrooms in california, and the dealer usually counts it out for u if u choose not to reply. as for the comment about the dealer counting whats already in the pot, i dont think thats allowed. u can ask the said dealer to spread the pot out evenly so u can eyeball it, but ive never seen a dealer count what was already in the pot. might as well ask the dealer who raised preflop...
i always make a note to myself on the new players sitting in. i try to profile them and make a mental note of how much theyre buying in for.
