Hey guys, this happened to me a little under 2 weeks ago. I chopped the saturday $340 at the borgata a few weeks ago for a little under 9k. A week later my house is robbed and the only thing taken is over 8k in cash and a laptop. The only light in the house that was on was my room and the only other thing taken was a laptop on my bed.
Now for the background. I play at a local game in town that for the last few months I have been doing very well at. A dealer at that game is a kid who, though I have known for over 5 years, is a scumbag who has robbed other houses in the past. He is the type of guy who you say whats up to because you know him, but in the back of your mind know he is nothing but trouble. Anyway, my house was robbed on a friday. The monday before that I cashed out of this game with around 1900. Earlier that night people were talking about my win in AC, and I specifically remember this dealer asking if they paid in cash. (In hindsight, a dumb move to even answer that question) Well 4 days later I come home at about 1 PM and find my back window broken and my room the only thing in the house even touched. It’s quite obvious it was someone who knew I had that money and came to get it. Well I call everyone I know and tell them to ask around and see if anyone is acting weird or saying anything. 10 minutes later I get a call from this dealers step brother who tells me that he (the dealer) told his roomate the night before that he was going to make 8k at “some job.”
Long story short, the dealer acted extremely defensive when asked about it, told about 7 different stories, lied to his dad about where he was that day, and took off to Pennsylvania about an hour after this happened. The problem is, without fingerprints or a confession its going to be very tough to get this guy. I’ve got plenty of people who have told me “just tell me when” and they will go get this guy. I’m still waiting for the detectives to completely lose hope on getting him before I resort to that, but this is quite a fucked up situation. Any advice? -
A decent detective can get him to trip over his words and implicate himself. Hell, he's been tripping over his words with the regular people you have talked to already.
-
so it sounds like w/o a doubt this dealer stole your money (if all the things you said are true). I don't think there is much that can be done and I have no advice on what you should do to him.
edit: lied to his dad? does he report to him or something? If so, you might want to get in contact w/ him. I doubt beating his ass or w/e will make him give you that money back. -
This might be a stupid question, but how did the dealer know exactly where you lived, and where you even kept the money, or even if you even had the money around anymore (not in the bank, used it, etc.).
"10 minutes later I get a call from this dealers step brother who tells me that he (the dealer) told his roomate the night before that he was going to make 8k at “some job.” "
The above sounds like they still knew you definitely had the money around the house. Any chance, someone close to you could've helped out on the job?
Either way, GL. -
i used to keep a lot of cash in my room from playing local home games like yourself and woudl find myself talking about how i had been doing if i was winning a lot. after a while of playing live and always having a lot of cash on you......you realize how dumb it is. people will kill somebody over 500 bucks let alone the things they will do for 8k.
if you were worried about paying taxes on your cash game winnings i understand keeping the money on you where u think you are "hiding" it in your room. but you had to pay taxes on that 8k u won so no point in not tossing it in the bank. for your cash game winnings you should def get a safety deposit box at your bank and keep almsost all of your money in it. there is no way for it to be tracked but it is safe and you dont have to worry about it. if you get robbed for the 1500-2500 you have on u for the week of playing it isnt a big deal. in the future u def need to get a safety deposit box.
GL getting your money back. sounds like u have a glimmer of hope and it sounds like the worst thing u can do at this point is beat the crap out of this guy. you should wait till u have no shot ever at getting your money back. and on top of that if u have a detective on the case it seems pretty obv that if he turned up beaten it was you or one of your friends you ordered to beat him. 8k not worth jail time. -
Just a little more background on this. The dealers dad is the one who started the game about 2 years ago. 5 months ago his dad moved to florida and sold the game. This is pretty much the only reason that kid still deals, is a favor to his dad. I talked to his dad the day of the incident and he told me what his son told him. What he told his dad was the complete opposite of what he told everyone else. He told me he wasn't in town that day the first time I talked to him, then 20 minutes later said he was in town until 2 PM. All of his stories conflicted and he told a lot of them to a lot of people.

Also, I understand I was dumb for having that amount of cash. It was on record of having been won anyway, so I should have put it in the bank. The one thing though is that I have had a lot of off the record wins at this cash game, and was being dumb in thinking that I would slowly put it in the bank. Overall I learned some valuable lessons, put your money in the bank and keep your mouth shut about your winnings. In the end though, I never thought someone would break into my parents house and take my money. Naive? For sure. I guess I just give people too much credit.
About him knowing the cash was still there. I don't think he knew for a fact that he was actually going to get the full 8k. He knew though that I had just won 9k in cash and cashed out 4 nights before with 1900. He's not the brightest kid and got drunk and bragged to his roomate about a huge sum he was going to make. He happened to nail the amount on the head. No one, and I mean no one, knew exactly the amount of cash I had. Not even my best friend or family. -
Where did you keep the money? Why would someone have reason to believe you kept it at your house?

I hate to sound too uncompromising but you gotta get this guy back. I know it may seem a little immature but when someone breaks into your house and steals your $ you almost have an obligation to yourself to make sure this sort of thing never happens again. What if this sort of thing did happen again? I am not telling you to go into ultra-violent mode or anything like that but you have to do something man and it needs to be planned out. You may not want to get involved which is understandable considering you have already contacted the police. This guy crossed the line then bragged about it, there should be no happy ending for him. A similar (though not as extreme) happened to me and I took care of it and nothing like that has happened since. You need to track this guy down and teach this guy a lesson.

Best way to try to get the money back if the investigators cant do anything is to bluff him. Talk to him 1on1 in private, and tell him the investigators have enough evidence (fingerprints, survellance, witnesses, etc) to move forward with an arrest, but since youve known him for a while you wanna give him a chance to avoid jailtime, by giving back the money. Tell him if he doesnt pay within 24hours then u will give them the go ahead to continue with the arrest/prosecution. This worked for me but it was much less money.

if the detectives flop.....
he owes u 9k.........if he has 9k worth of belongings to his name, civilian justice should be easy.... -
u should try to bluff him like swd said. prob. about a 90% chance of it working. he is porb pretty scared right now that he is gonna go to jail. on top that offer him a stake in a tourney for returning the money and obv not go threw w/ the stake.
-
this sound like the most optimal solution

ah, this reminds me of my days at college living on campus

If I was 95% sure said person had broke into my house and took my $$$, it would take me about 10 minutes to round up a few of my friends and go get my cash.

I would say that the 8k is definately gone, but i have an idea that might make you feel better. Start dating a female member of his family...preferably a sister, but a cousin, mother or grandmother will suffice. Then the first time, you get intimate with this cousin, sister, mother or grandmother....pull the old bucking bronco" I have aids" routine and just enjoy the ride...id say thats atleast 4 to 5k worth of entertainment.
p.s. take pictures and send to alleged thief. your welcome for the idea -
My condolences, sir. Hopefully you will learn from this and will ultimately get the money back.
That said, there are a lot of people out there on internet forums who would be more than willing, if given this person's name and particulars, to mess with him mercilessly. Stop Bed Wetting pamphlets mailed to his places of employment bearing his name, harrassing phone calls, etc... -
hey man im real sorry to hear that, there are a lot of scummy people in this world. im not sure this would even help but u said he stole ur laptop right? i know my laptop(a dell XPS) has a tracking device in just incase it gets stolen. maybe u should check and see if yours has one(i know most newer laptops have tracking devices). he could be dumb and still have it or at least it would lead u to who has it right now. this might not help with the money, just help him get arrested.
gl man i hope everything works out and you get some justice for your hard earned money. -
WOW,, how you sit there and type this and he's still walking is, i dont even have words. In some sik way i pray for someone to have the balls to do this. This fuk obv doesnt know that people get tossed in a ditch for waaaay less than that. WOW, broke ur window , stole ur shit and most of all pretty much knows (and beleive me, he knows) that you will figure out its him, and doesnt even care. He's basically saying " your a puss and i dont give a fuk if you find out cuz you wont do shit" , dude break his fkin neck ASAP, : )

Believe me I told people there would be a very generous reward if I got even 7k back. The problem is I am almost positive he did it with his other scumbag friend who lives in PA. Thats why he went up there immediately. The money is being kept up there because that kid knows the dealer is too stupid to hold back with money. If the dealer had the money he woulda went and bought something really big and made himself look real bad. That other kid is connected to pretty bad things, his dad has a ton of money, and he has pulled guns on people I know before. I'm no pushover, but getting over the fact that I had 8k ripped from me is bad enough. If these kids end up seriously fucked up, I will have a lot more things to worry about.
-
Chances of someone this scummy having 9k in worthy belongings is slim to none. Looks like the best route would be getting someone to fuck his day up....Not that hard to do, offer a crack head you know a hundo to meet the thief outside of where he works/deals or whatever a few weeks or so down the road. Have said crackhead, unknown to villain, completely fake car/flat tire problem. Victim looks into helping and gets popped in the jaw with a lead pipe. gg villain, ship the vengeance and personal satisfaction!
