  1. I am moving into a new place, was wondering whether i should pay extra for the better internet services through Comcast. I am pretty dumb with computer stuff, dont know if it will help me
  2. dial up works fine for me
  3. Pretty sure you can afford the best internet possible.

seriously. but any high speed internet will prolly be fine... i would worry more about getting 2 different lines so if one goes down, you can use the other one.

  5. if the connection dies out, hope you can steal your neighbours for the time being

lol just cause you have money doesnt mean you should waste it if you dont have to.

I have the standard cable internet here and it works just fine. you dont really need highspeed unless youre downloading/uploading a lot of stuff.

Definitly this. In my experience in many locations Cable internet while the fastest is always somewhat unreliable, it will sometimes go out and be out for hours and even days at a time. Id get Cable internet as your primary and have a aircard as back up, aircards if your location is good for them are extremely reliable, my Sprint aircard has never gone out or been down in over a year, when I just had cable internet it would sometimes go down and id be screwed scrambling to call someone or go to a coffee shop or something, with an aircard if your internet goes down you can just stick the ole aircard in and be back in action in 30 secs and go go go.
  12. You don't really need highspeed internet, but I would def get an aircard because they do go out once in a while. It costs $60 a month and worth well more than I pay for it. I'm in NYC and use Verizon and it works great.

Dammit just realize the post above was the same. FML.
  13. I just moved into a small hamlet that does not offer cable or dsl. I know an aircard will be fast enough to play poker with and is fairly reliable in terms of connection but what concerns me is whether I will exceed the amount of gigs I am alotted per month for downloading.

Does anyone know how much poker sites use up and whether an aircard/satellite/other is an economical option?

not alot.... i was on for 15hours playing ftp and stars and it only wasted 86MB on my bell stick...i went on some website for a half hour and went over that. usually companies give you like 500mb or you can increase if you want...but you wont need it
  15. Mine is unlimited for 60$ a month, I play poker on it everyday long hours often, no problem at all. Im pretty sure that the unlimited plan isnt much more than any plan that allots certain amounts so thats the way to go.
  16. Get your standard high speed cable/dsl setup, and then buy a wireless air card for 60/mo for insurance purposes.

Ok thanks, that sounds pretty decent actually. At that rate it would take 2 weeks of heavy playing to even hit a gig.
  18. So I should get the performance here? Have an aircard, but have never set it up on my mac, I will do that too. Thanks for the help. Here is the Comcast link http://www.comcast.com/shop/buyflow2...urcePage=Cable

  19. Fucking Comcast is the most unreliable POS internet I've ever had.

  20. ^^^ He obviously had a bad experience (maybe area i dont know) but

I Have had comcast for 7 yrs of playing and only have had it go down on 1 tourney!

It was during a bad storm and i was sol for the whole tourney, besides that I dont like paying them what I do but they r fast and reliable as far as the 'extra speed' for 10 bcks i personally could never tell the difference because i have had it and have not.
  21. If it's like a choice between 3mbs/5/10 down, and you are only playing poker, and you are the only one using ur internet, you can probably go with the base. If you share your internet on a wireless network and like to stream or download music I'd take the mid or the highest if the price isn't bad. Your internet is going to have the same amount of outtages regardless of which package you get. The packages simply restrict/unrestrict more/less bandwith. With cable you should have a reliable 2nd internet connection ready to go, and air card would be perfect, but make sure it works well where you live.

  23. It's pretty silly for any HSMTTer to skimp on the e-connect, and as others have said, get/set up the aircard, if it comes into play once at a FT it pays for itself for years.
It's like this bud, and not really like this at all but I'm not feeling like coming up with a good comparison so I'll skimp, but I have no financial stake here so it's all good.

If you were a truck driver, would you buy the shitty truck to run your route? If playing poker is your livelyhood you need to take it seriously and get the best tools possible to do your job.

i dont know if some of you are getting it. it isnt about buying the cheap connection or not. It is whether the costs help or not. This has been adressed by someone in here, Aand i thank them. I am not getting dial up or anything, and i of course have a wireless card already. not like I will be getting dial up.

  25. Do you get annoyed by slow internet connection?

What kind of programs do you run on the regular?

My post was more for general purposes than you specifically, if I were referring to you in particular I would have addressed you personally. I still think it's silly for any HSMTTer to skimp on the e-connect even if "I'm not getting it".
  26. if poker is your job, it wouldnt be logical to not have the best internet your provider offers

I am not trying to call anyone out, so I apologize if it seemed that way. I probably put my question in wrong. The question was whether the extra features they provided would help connectivity at all. Or if they would give me anything that helps poker players. Dont want to pay 2-3 times as much for something that wouldnt help with my service. It would be like buying a 1080P Television instead of 720P, then only using it with regular TV, and DVD players. Sure you would have a better TV, but you would not be using its features, since you didnt have BluRay.

  28. Well that's what I was trying to get at, if you're running like a dozen chat programs, playing on 3/4 sites, DLing movies and music etc etc etc you could definately notice the slower connection in a big way.

If you're just 4 tabling the same site, maybe have an AIM client running, and aren't DLing any porn you probably won't notice a differance.

It all depends on how busy you are when playing imo.

i just found out you can call VZW and ask them to set up your phone to "tether" to your computer, to act as an aircard. It's $15 a month on top of your plan. A special USB cord is required, i assume they would have them at the VZW store.

Ok, well then its def based on what else you plan to do with your internet. Like someone said, if you are planning on running a lot of other programs, download, play new generation games, etc. then it will help enough to be worth the cost. But if it's just to play poker, regular cable/dsl is fine as long as you have a backup connection for emergencies.
