Techies please help....
I've got a very frustrating internet connection issue. I have a cable connection from wall into a modem connected directly to desktop and wireless router. I play from a laptop wirelessly, and occasionally it will have a really bad night where it disconnects frequently over and over. If I move into the room where the router is located, the laptop works fine.
It seems that the router is the issue??? I guess I am checking to confirm if that sounds like it is the problem. And if so, does quality of router play a big factor in the wireless connection? If I buy a top-end router, would you expect my situation to improve? If so, any recommendations for a router? This damn thing has cost me hundreds if not thousands over badly timed disconnects.
Another option would be to upgrade to the faster internet plan through my cable company, which is an extra $30 or so per month. Is that a better route? -
wireless routers use the same signal channels as other common electronic devices (wireless phones for example). try going into your router's settings and changing the channel number (think the default is 6). This is a good place to start imo.
