  1. Firstly I would just like to say hello to all the P5er's, been a browser for quite a while and have been loving all the wisdom , storey's and comedy to be the stuff dreams are made of. This is my first post. GG.
Internet Poker and Integrity of the game have been an issue(on these Forums) for quite a while, but I have never heard of any mention of cheating by the method of Instant Messangers e.g MSN IM, Yahoo, AOL, etc. It would be quite easy to use an IM program for collusion espeacially in cash games & smaller sit'n'gos. If multiple "associates" were sitting in a Cash game for example, these people would have a huge "edge" on the rest of the Table and could very easlily strip the rest of the table of they chips ($$$'s) as hole card could be communicated between these associates, and/or normal collusion methods could be quiet easily executed and communicated.
I was just wondering A. if this is possible? B.What do the Poker site do about this(if anything)? C. Does it happen?
I'm just curious and wondering any P5er's have any thoughts/experience with this.
P.S the reason I bring this up is because the other day my mate asked me if a wanted to play a Play money sit and Go to watch his game(give him a few tips) and he was communicating his cards to me much to my disgust, this seemed like a very easy way to cheat @ internet poker.
I need some replys as I LOVE playing on the PC and make a few Bucks but would be sceptical about playing up LVL's if this was at all possible.
    Cheers Players.
  2. "people" "have" "been" doing this for "years"
  3. A) Yes of course it's possible....and probably does go on from time to time

    B) Poker sites can't do anything to stop people from talking. There's no way to stop people from communicating with each other outside the site. If they said a site can't run at the same time as AIM, people would just get on the phone with each other or netmeeting or whatever else. There are a million ways to talk to someone besides on a poker site. If they banned AIM while using a poker client, I literally would not play at all, as I don't have time to only play poker and shut off everything else going on in my life. I think many would agree with this.

    C) Yes, it does happen. People also get caught, because they don't think people will notice but they do.. Then they get their accounts frozen, funds locked up, and get f'd over for trying to ruin the integrity of our game for their own gain.

  4. Thanks Adam, I thought as much and have no reason to be overly suspisious about this. I'm a micro limits grinder and have my most success in Cash Games, I have been at a few table were this scenario seems possible(impossible to play) with 2 or three people in nearly every pot.
I just wrote this post because and am slowly grinding up a roll and would like to play steeper games in the future were I'm assuming this business is more likly to go on . I understand that poker sites can't shut them down when people are on there site's but surly there is a way for online Poker sites to manage this Problem.

  5. I think the safest place to be in is a MTT because the people can't always be at the same table with each other. Other than that, if you are paying close attention to the other players, you can spot collusion after a while, then you can tell the site to investigate.
  6. It does make MTT's seem like the Safe option for Internet play.

  7. I am a bit suprised in the lack of replys or coments about this issue. IMO this is a major problem as it could completly destroy the integrity of the game of Poker(cash) on the Internet. I assume alot of P5er's play cash and may have an opinion about the subject. When ever I hear some Brag post about some one making 15BB/100 I will be sceptical about the methods which these results are obtained.
Please peoples shed some more light on this grey aea??
    Cheers

  8. of course this can and prob does happen if you're really worried about this, online poker prob not for you. see you in vegas
  9. I'm not sure what you want us to say? Here are some things to take note of:

    1. Cash games are super profitable

    2. There is no way to prevent what you are talking about.

    3. People who do this will eventually get caught because they make it obvious

    4. There is not a lot of this going on, as seen by the ease in which cash games can be beat. If this were super prevelant, then cash games would be harder then they are and less profitable. This leads me to believe that collusion is not as rampant as you think; or it is and everyone just sucks horribly at it. Either way I don't care because there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop it other than to observe the tables I am playing at.
  10. A & C) Yes, and yes. I know of a few guys who would get on from their home computers sit in $50+ SNGs together. This gives the ability to let each other know starting hands, and to dump chips. they aren't out for individual success as much as team success. At the end of the day they split up funds, through cash outs or transfers.

    B) Poker sites are suppose to have security teams responsible for game integrity. There are supposed programs that keep track of who plays with who on an above average basis. As far as anyone being caught, I have no idea but I do know this goes on. Just be carefull and make sure to observe how people are playing. If something is just a little too hard to believe send the pokersite's security department and they should check out PLAYERS A & B and how often they have played together, and if they see a possibility of collusion they even can check out the hand histories of such games.

As previous bloggers have stated the MTT's are the safest bet just because the odds of sitting together are very small.
  11. Nice one Dexter. That is one of the most "I got my head up my ass" Statments I've ever heard. I'm concerned, not worried.

  12. Thanks Mate, Cash Games Are very profitable. I love em, they fit my style of play the best I believe. I do win a little on cash games consistantly and I have no reson to believe this type of collusion is overly common. I'll keep on grinding these games. Cheers

  13. Thanks Lemongello. U're response on B) was what I was wanting to hear. Thanks Mate. Hope you keep on pulling in the big Pots and continue to strike it clean and keep holing those putts.
There is nothing better than cash gaming it up, while playing an MTT, making u're entry fee back and a little more to add to the roll. Cheers
