We've got an interview with Greg "DuckU" Hobson up on the front page now:
http://www.pocketfives.com/ADEAE06F-...53FF99990.aspx
I think his back-to-back wins in the Full Tilt Sunday majors clearly ranks among the greatest online poker accomplishments of all time. Nobody has done that (actual back-to-back wins in the same event) since the Sunday tournaments have gotten this big---fields were 2,340 and 1,647 people in these two, and the 1,647 people one was a $500 buy in.
What do you think? How does this measure up against some of the other accomplishments we've seen? -
The absolute best that probably wont be topped.
-
Absolutely the greatest accomplishment. To give it some perspective, the liklihood of someone winning these two in a row given a totally average ability vs the field is roughly 3 853 980 to 1.
-
He is without a doubt a great player and it is a great accomplishment to win two sunday major tourneys.
However, JJProdigy/TSopranos/Lilholdem/Brainwash/actionjeff/ozzy etc. sunday major success is far better/impressive /probably forgetting some
I've won the stars and ftp sunday majors too for 250k combined, does it really matter that they weren't in back to back weeks/the same day. Its just variance.
The greatest accomplishment in online poker should be success over long periods of time not just sick heaters. -
My friends that don't know squat about poker were Amazed. This Is .... amazing
edit: YES, greatest accomplishment -
wasnt there a guy on ftp named "HighPlaya" that went back to back? first time he beat dustin dirksen..
-
Best ever until the three-peat next week...
I was joking when I wrote that, because it so completely and totally absurd....
But so was winning twice in a row, so GO DUCK take it down again.
I've got to agree and say it's the most impressive back-to-back ever. You are the man Greg. -
I think it's a big accomplishment yes, but I have to agree somewhat with YourTimeIsUp. Why does it matter that the wins were 2 weeks in a row? Surely great long-term success in big tournaments like this would be a better achievement, it just doesn't seem as incredible as winning twice in a row. Personally I am quite impressed by the guy who won the $100 rebuy 3 times in a row, according to the article.
-
come on, this is basically the sickest ever accomplishment... owning over a long term is not an "accomplishment" in this context, its just owning. completely insanely gross congrats to ducku and yeah hoodini's 3/4 huge weekend 100r wins was also amazing. it will likely be years before this accomplishment is ever topped though
-
Was thinking same thing the moment I read front page. Back to back with such fields is greatest accomplishment in poker period.
-
definitely a great accomplishment, no question about it....but never say never....in due time, i am sure someone will pull off a similar feat....maybe winning the sunday million back to back? now that would be a sick accomplishment.
GL to all the high roller/ballers LOL -
Greg is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He also happens to be crazy good. I met Greg when we were both grinding smaller limits and he has risen quickly and is a force at any limit he plays. Congrats man.
-
This is sick, but how has pokerjoe's accomplishment been swept under a rug? 100R won twice in one day and other FT's.
-
he used to be a donkish nit 6 months ago, guy has improved a lot since then.
sick run. -
What Andy said, total pwnage!! Congrats to DuckU, is he now a member of the P5 community?\
Nevermind i see hes on the leaderboard :) -
It's phenomenal, no doubt about that.
Winning 2 back to back, while fascinating, is not really better than winning 2 in a 6 month period or even a year.
Success in gambling is measured over the long term. The longer the period of time the more impressive it is.
This is why JohnnyBax is still the greatest online player there ever has been. And Doyle Brunson is the greatest player ever. End of story.
Hands down. -
meh
-
yawn
-
What a beast!
I'm a math guy. I think the posting showing the odds brings the perspective to the feat.
Odds of winning same major back-to-back: 1 in 3,800,000
Odds of winning same major twice in a year: 1 in 1,400
Winning two majors in single year, while just as impressive, is much more likely.
I would not argue that he is one of the best overall online players. But I would argue that this is the most amazing feat every seen in online poker.
sidenote to acerunner: You're a clown if you think he was a "donkish nit" six months ago. He's been killing NL games for years. He's an unknown because only tournament winnings are tracked in leaderboards and standings. And he's not dedicated to grinding tournaments on a daily basis. -
Actually Papoorboy Won the UB sunday 200 back to back weeks...the 3rd week he bubbled the FT..and a few weeks later chopped the stars or party sunday Major.
I'm not saying it is not an amazing thing DuckU has done..but it has been done before -
msusfinest basically owns the Sunday on UB. But the fields on UB are so much smaller than elsewhere.
-
Most of you guys are looking at this sort of the wrong way in my opinion.
This could be the best SINGLE accomplishment in online poker history. Over a career other people will probably do better.
Think of sports even, some baseball pitcher a long time ago threw back to back no hitters, this requires a lot of luck and skill. No bloop singles or whatever. This is thought of as one of the best pitching accomplishments of all time. But in the top 100 pitchers of all time he wouldn't be on that list.
I know that baseball and poker are two different worlds but I think this analogy holds some weight. Someone can have "the greatest" accomplishment without "over a long period of time" being a factor. -
Yourtimeisup you are wrong. Your still a young buck so thats why it doesnt suprise me. Of course you are gonna through out a brag post about yourself in somebody elses thread; typical of an 18-21 year old who thinks their shit doesnt stink. All the players you named are obviously great players and their results speak for themselves but to win two majors with such large fields back to back is unreal and hes not just on a sick heater, hes a sick player. Online poker is measured over time but accomplishments and being the best are two different things. This is the GREATEST accomplishment yet to date in online poker and I really dont see anyone topping this.
-
^^^My thoughts exactly.
I think another good example, though still baseball related, is when a guy hits 4 home runs in a game. Without a doubt that is a sick sick sick accomplishment. Now lets say those are the only 4 home runs he hits in a season. His accomplishment is still insanely sick but you guys are now trying to compare him to A-Rod. A-Rod may not ever hit 4 home runs in a game but his career and single seasons are nonetheless better. Its really comparing two different things here: single accomplishment vs. lifetime acheivement. -
People talk about Dan Harrington's two final tables back to back in the WSOP ME as one of the best accomplishments in poker history. Those were in fields of 839 and 2,500. And he finished 3rd and 4th. DuckU played in fields of 2,340 and 1,647 and WON THEM BOTH. How can people not say this is the sickest accomplishment in online poker? Until somebody wins back-to-back Sunday Millions, DuckU takes the cake in my book! Well done Greg.
