  1. I have been writing on a sports blog for about a year now, and decided to try introducing poker to our site. Below is the link for my first attempt at this - an interview with Bill "Crazyhorse76" Slaght after he won Bluff Magazine's Online Player of the Year award. All of my writing on the site is done for my own enjoyment, and I would appreciate any feedback you guys have.

  2. seems like a pretty ok interview. i feel like it wasn't the usual 5 questions that everyone asks poker players

Crazyhorse76: Sta*tis*ti*cally, the worst beat you can take is the one-outer, which I’ve taken more than my share. But, as far as money wise, that’s a real easy one. I was down to eight-handed in the Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Low event of one of the FTOPS. I raise pot with AA46 and get re-raised by big blind. Just then, my fiancé decides its time to heat up a cou*ple moz*zarella sticks. The fuse, which is con*nected to the modem and router, blows and the con*nec*tion goes. I time out and bust eighth shortly after, for like $5800 or some*thing.

was very funny..although he's wrong about a 1 outer being the worst thing statistically...running perfect perfect is worse...like AA vs KK on KKx or something

one thing took away from it quite a bit tho. i think you come across as kind of a dick, or perhaps just ignorant when you say things like:

GSL: Must be nice to be mad about $5800

Good Shot at Los*ing: First of all, let me say screw you for get*ting to sit home all day, play*ing cards for a liv*ing, while the rest of us have to drag our asses to an office. Do you get that a lot?

although the second one is actually a pretty good question (do people often not understand what you do, and think you just play games all day, and get jealous) i think it's phrased really really poorly, and just poor journalism. i'd be pretty put off if i were asked some of these quesitons

  3. thank you for your feedback.
For the statement about the $5800 (must be nice...), the intent was to show that people unfamiliar to poker sometimes focus on a prize and not on the big picture, that much more prize money was left on the table due to the unfortunate circumstances. The ignorance is intentional, although my aim was not ignorance, but more sounding like someone who is foreign to poker (i.e. the small band of regular readers we have). In the past I have been guilty of the same thing, where I have congratulated someone for taking 4th for $18K when they're pissed as hell that they got sucked out on 4 handed when they had a shot at a first place stack 3 handed for a much bigger payout. They're not thinking about the fact that they just added $18K to their bankroll; they're pissed off that they didn't go deeper.
For the "screw you" statement, that was an attempt at humor, not meant to be derogatory in any way. All of my other posts on that site have a sort of irreverent sarcasm to them, which I'm sure is an acquired taste that not all people will like.

Again, thanks for the feedback. Although what I say above is an attempt to explain my intentions, the fact that I need to explain them means that they did not come across clearly enough in the post, so that is definitely something I will work on in the future. If there's anything else you noticed, let me know.

  4. yeah i mean, i don't mean to be mean or anything like that, and i don't think your intentions were malicious or anything like that...but that is how i feel it comes across. i think you have some good ideas, and it's smart to cater the article to those not that familiar with poker...i jsut think you need to take a more professional approach

fwiw, i knew the first line was supposed to be a joke too, i jsut feel like when i read it, there was some sort of tone that didn't sit right with me, and i htought i should address it.

also, ty for taking my critique professionally, instead of telling me to drop dead...only trying to help

The most important thing I learned in creative writing workshops in college is if you don't recognize criticism as someone trying to help you, quit writing. If I were at the point where I no longer needed any help, I wouldn't be writing for free on a blog that has 0 advertising.
