Alright at first I thought the guy made a terrible call and maybe it was just marginal bad call. Tell me what you think.
Blinds are 400-800 very fast structure 15 min blinds
In this hand I am the big blind
Short Stack under the gun pushes in for 2800
Villian smooth calls {Me and the villian have a small history from the last few tournaments we have played. He loves to limp pots and most pots he does I push and push hard. I have told him time after time not to limp cause I will bump it up. He thinks I am cocky and some young punk and that I have no idea what I am doing. Which maybe the case but I am way over his head in tourney play.
My table image is loose/Aggresive and as soon as I moved in he says "Damnit I knew you were going to do that"
I look down at J J: Now I think about it for a second and again push for another 12,600 in chips. Villian has about 18,000 in chips so he has me covered. He sits there for a second and then calls. Right away I tell him that was a terrible call. He then flips over KQ unsuited.
Mute point short stack has 8-8
Of course he hits his K on the turn and GG me. My question is was it a terrible call by him.
I am not good at odds but he is putting in after my all in 12,600 to win 21,000 this is less then 2-1 right? At best we are flipping which we were but most likely dominated. Do you make this call?
Second Question: I think most likely he has overs should I have just seen a flop since we had a shorty in the pot and then taking it down on the flop since the flop came 10 high.
What would be your move here. I like my play since I wanted him in the pot. But I could have played it more conservatice and slow played and taken it down on the flop.
Not a bad beat post. Just want your thoughts. -
It's a good thing that you've got a read here that your opponent likes to limp; but it's not a good thing that you ALWAYS re-pop it when he does.
You say you like your play because you wanted him in the pot. Your play suggests you want him out of the pot. You've got a good hand and if you get him to fold, there is some good dead money in the pot--on top of the fact that you're probably ahead of the first all-in.
Problem for you here is that he could easily make this play with AA/KK/QQ which have you crushed.
But, he sounds weak and that he would call there with two high cards. If that's the case, you should push here to get him off his hand, but if he's not that good, he may take the 2-1 that you're giving him and make the call anyway. The fact that you've got JJ is about the best possible hand for him that you could have.
So, even though he's getting 2-1, it really is a pretty bad call for 75% of his stack.
And, I don't think I could see playing it any other way. You could call, but I don't think that's the best play. What are you going to do when any over hits? You should at least raise pre-flop for value and push that flop if you don't push pre... -
"You say you like your play because you wanted him in the pot. Your play suggests you want him out of the pot."
What I meant by that is I knew he was getting ready to pop his cherry. He was steaming and I thought he was ready to call off his stack with almost anything.
So yes I really wanted him in there and yes I would have been just as happy with the blinds and the SS chips and his smooth call chips. If he has AA, KK, QQ cool gg me. But the way he was playing and the way the table was playing I was sure of some overs. -
If I just smooth call, And an over hits I am ok with releasing. I would still have around 12,600 chips and some room to work. But I did make my move.
-
If you're sure of overs and sure he's going to call, then I don't like the shove as much. You're a coin flip away from getting knocked out.
If you knew for a fact that he had these two overs and knew for a fact he would call your shove, then you really should have done a stop and go here. You could min-raise to get a little more of his money in the pot pre-flop and then push any flop. Or, you could push any flop without an over.
Overall I like your isolation move to get heads up with the original raiser, but no sense getting involved in a huge coin flip for your tourney. Just my two cents... -
Thanks for giving your two cents and the stop and go most likely would have been a better option.
Small raise to get a some more makes more sense,
Thanks
