I just wanted to start a thread that is dedicated to how apathetic I am towards the WSOP Main Event. I think the idea to push the final table to November has just deflated the allure of the final table. I haven't followed any of the players at the final 9. I don't really care who wins and specifically remember last year following the action hand for hand when I could at the final table. I'm sure the final nine are enjoying their lives, but just wondering how other people feel at this moment.

Mildly interested.
I agree the decision was a flop.
When the series was goign on I was constantly browsing live updates. Now with the table paused... out of sight out of mind?
Booo -
The worst part about it [for me] is that they will not be showing the hole cards on the original live broadcast. I've watched the older WSOPs where they didn't and I'm spoiled after seeing hole cards for the last 6-7 yrs. Unless I have nothing else to do that day/evening, I'll probably just wait for the replay.

Are they showing it live? Are they playing it then showing an edited version the next day? If its the latter then wtf was the point of delaying it since we all gonna be seeing the updates and who won in real time. I guess to let the episodes run and then have it but if it isnt going to be live seems silly.

the only members of the "November 9' i care about are the ones who I can win a peice of through the freerolls on stars, so right now Chino Rheem only matters....
not seeing the hole cards is a great way to watch poker and maybe gain some actual poker knowledge as it is all situation recognition....idk though i don't really care that much -
I was totally against it at first, but I do understand why they did it and am just waiting to see how it plays out.
Bottom line is that televised poker was losing audience, not gaining, so they wanted to do something to put excitement back into it for the casual viewer. Diehards like those of us who frequent poker forums are not the demographic they were thinking about.
They obviously can't talk about the November nine during broadcasts, so, when they get down to the 9, they wil hype the crap out of it and try to make all 9 compelling in some way. If you're joe blow who watches espn, you will care more about watching the final table if you know the stories behind each player.
I believe that's what they are going for and we will have to wait a bit more to see the results and really know how even we feel about it. This thread and others like it are a bit premature.
Obviously there are pros and cons to this, but I'm gonna give it a shot and see, I bet it won't hurt poker's exposure, in fact it just might improve it. And if it really flops, they can go back to the old format.
imo imo imo imo imho immfho -
Another aspect of this came about that I didn't even consider and I think it will be interesting to see.
Dude who made 3rd at the WSOPE main event will now have video of him playing a big final table right before this final table for the other players to study his tells and such. Should add another dynamic for him and the others. -
by the time this plays out you will know more about the "November Nine" than you would ever care too.
-
Im confused as to how they are going to do this too.

I agree. I think the network execs went for too much hype in delaying 4 months. They thought the hype machine would build and build for the full 4 months. Of course it remains to be seen how much it builds in the next month, but I think there will be far less viewers. Of course I'll be watching no matter when they air it.
Prediction for next year: I think there will still be a delay after the final table is reached, but I think the delay will only be about 2 weeks or a month depending on how long they take to edit the hundreds of hours of film.
One little aside, I like that I have not known the winner for months before watching the game, I just wish the game would be played out a little quicker. -
it would have worked fine if a big name had made the final table but with a table full of people that no one knows its kind of hard to care
-
I agree BKice. If any of you followed the WSOPE though, you know that Ivan "the russian" made the final table of that as well. Makes it a tad bit more interesting, but overall I think that WSOP has failed on this. Gl to Chino, R_A__Y.

You're just not going to get much airtime during the NFL season on an all sports network. The WSOP really should have thought about the coverage they could expect on a network that just spent like a billion dollars for broadcasting rights to NFL games.
They'll probably air the hell out of the WSOP at like 2AM-6AM though, and the N9 will probably get their coverage, just when nobody is watching. There will probably be some prime-time coverage, but I wouldn't expect much. -
This is the first year i've been completely uninterested in the ME. This also happens to be the first year I've played in the main event. I have the attention span of a 5 year old so dragging this shit out for 4 months has definitely completely lost my interest.

A few weeks before the tourney started I asked a very good player what he thought of it.
He said "let me make the final table and then ask me again" He said "It really only affects nine guys, and everyones elses opinion about it is kinda irrelevant." -
They split the interest up bewteen the 9 players.

There is so many $10,000 buy in's now that its not as exciting as it once was.
