  1. I have decided to ban myself from online poker for 1 month. I have already sent the emails and believe that this is the best thing for me right now. This past month I have been running horribly bad online and have just been dropping a lot of money. During this time I am going to renew my pxf subscription and just watch as many videos as I can as well as reading a rereading a few books.

Have any of you guys done this and how do you think it has helped your game?

    Thanks,

    AO

  2. I banned myself for 6 months last year in order to get away from poker, finish school, and get a 'real' job. It was great and I came back into the game refreshed.

    Good luck
  3. I banned myself for 6 months.. Worked out great.. One of the first tourneys I played during the ban on my friends account I made my only 4 figure cash ever..
  4. I don't think that counts as a valid ban, then.

Anyways, you guys are braver than me. I've done week-long bans twice, and both times were good decisions. It helps you deal with tilt a lot better.
  5. i do the 3 day bans all the time, good to refresh yourself, and be away from the game for a bit.
  6. Here's a better idea... learn self control that way you don't have to ban yourself. One of the biggest problems i think players have is playing when you aren't really feeling it. Play when you know you can get into it and watch your ROI and general performance skyrocket.
  7. thanks guys.

Poker has been great and has been horrible, I am still a senior in High School and have the luxary of not having a job because of poker but sometimes it feels as if its taking over my life and I just need a break from it.

  8. I think watching a lot of pxf vids and not being allowed to actually play the game will be great for getting your enthusiasm back.

  9. I banned myself for 14 days and am on day 3. Not only have I been playing too much online poker but have been working hardcore on an art project. Nothing in between, just poker/work/poker/work. On top it rains every day so getting depressed and outta shape. Anyway, i feel refreshed already, been getting outside for energizing work outs, and getting chores done which has relieved stress! I've been catching up on poker vids, books, and forums. My game was stale, not losing or winning so i hope this brings some Fortune. Either way it's amazing to breath fresh air and enjoy life! I am playing in a private real tourney this week and look fwd to the casino some but i'm very happy to be free of the constant and gnawing draw of dreaming about the ever present possibility of lucrative online games! I hope to crete a schedule before i return that can create a balance so i can maintain a healthy lifestyle. Watching the pro's on TV tonight was a wake-up call: one looked all sweaty, one had jiggly arms, lots of double chin action! I don't care how great you are at poker that is just not cool. I mean it's on a sports channel right?
  10. i had a sick september, then october i was running / playign sooo bad

took nov / half of dec off (didn't need an actual ban from the sites - because i'm not a degen )

came back and started doing really well again

taking breaks from poker is +EV, especially when you play everyday for 6+ hours
  11. I banned myself for a 3 months and decided to really work hard on my game so when I came back I was much better and ready to compete again. When I started playing again I was really bad, realized I should never have stopped playing because it only made my game worse. I had missed out on 3 months of online experience and when I came back I saw my results suffer again. I became less motivated, and began to hate myself. I will never take a break from poker again.

  12. if you need to ban yourself from poker, then you have a gambling problem. only you can control your actions, so learn how to do that. Not saying that banning yourself is a bad idea, just saying that you should be able to not log in and play poker. Try doing something else besides sitting at your desk; clean your house, go for a walk or ride a bicycle, go to the gym...find a hobby and enjoy your life.
And if you are really having a bad run in poker and are losing lots of money, I'd say don't play poker for at least 3 months - see if you can manage that. Poker is not going anywhere, but your life is passing you by.
