I stole this chat from somebody in the forums, but i thought it was worth discussing. What happens if Ivey gets a matchup with him? Will he lose it on purpose since he is obviously betting for isildur? Also, how much do we think the bet is for and with who? (has to be somebody big if its 10 to 1).....
Phil Ivey: i bet on u in this tournement and took 10 to 1
Isildur1: what ? :)
Phil Ivey: yep
Isildur1: u beted on me ? how much ?
Phil Ivey: a big number so play good
Isildur1: ok, yeah i do my best
Phil Ivey: not that big but taking 10 to 1 its pretty big
Isildur1: yeah.. 10 times the money for me to win it ?
Isildur1: only win counts ?
Phil Ivey: yeah

Isildur1: ok -
Depends on the amount of money he bet on Isildur to win and what he would receive if isildur did win.
If the amount of money he would receive for Isildur winning > what Phil would win(by a good amount) +2nd place prize money, Phil would likely lose.
If it's not, Phil would try to win(obv less pressure since if he does lose, he still gets some sum).
If the total's close, I'm sure he'd just go for the win. -
niiiiiiice... i hope they play each other. I wonder if the bet is for more than what the winner gets? could be interesting if they played FTW
-
i am sure phil did not bet less than 50k....so hes probably looking at 500k if isildur wins.

isildur1 is sick to be playin ivey and pa hu plo HS spread out among 6 tables
-
Not only heads up
If they are both at final table does Phil play differently when he has monetary interest in one of the players at the table? This isn't just for Phil Ivey but for all the situations where a backer and one of his players are at same table etc. Creates a shady situation that goes past just being gray
Betting on somebody other than yourself to win in a game you are playing is not ethical and would not be acceptable in any other sport/game -
you can say the same thing about betting for another person to be world series player of the year while you are participating in the world series of poker....there are different levels of ethical dilemmas you are talking about, and its not a big ethical issue in this certain case...the guy betting against ivey obv knows this and understands it and thats why he bet.

The final table...would be heads up... It's a heads up tournament.

You were Married to a guy?
-
Wow, he's sitting with almost $2m across six tables and playing the $25k HU.
-
is harrington25 dan?

Phil could have made more than 1 bet, so he could have action on himself. And I doubt he would purposely tank, 100K means nothing to him.
-
Finally started the next round!
Isildur is playing PostFlopAction.
Down to 8! 4 get paid...Shootout Bubble Play! -
Out 6th ------- bummer Phil

I would bet any money this was some sort of psychological ploy by Ivey. Ivey was of course playing him HU in PLO at the time along with Antonius.
I am thinking that Ivey's plan was to get him feeling over confident and to get so cocky he would agree to these unfair matches where Isildur is playing twice the tables vs Ivey and Antonius. They prolly even goaded him into playing the PLO trny to further distract and stretch his attention him from their games.
Ivey is a clever thinker and knows how to get an edge. Looks like it worked
I honestly don't see Ivey making such a negative EV bet especially when he is in the trny himself ...mind games
