after watching the me coverage from last week and seeing ivey not only run like god, but also get max value everytime, in basically every hand they showed, i wondered if anyone else in poker could have FT'd the main if they have been put in ivey's seat the whole tourney (ie., same cards at same tables, same decisions, etc...). i dunno, maybe ranked p5'ers could have, maybe only hs cash players, maybe no one.
dwan would be closest i guess? -
We have yet to see anything other than day 3...wait til they show him having nada...and they also had some hands before that where they didn't show his holecards before he was on the featured table.
-
You mean how spewey his opponents were? It looked like he was getting paid off on both his big hands and in marginal spots. Seemed like there were a buncha stations at his table. IMO it was a perfect situation for his reputation.
-
yeah sure they show .1% of the hands he's played, but i'm sure everyone else would play the other 99.9% the same way as well
-
you do know espn cuts/edits these broadcasts correct?

Dwan is a great cash player but hasn't proved himself enough in mtts to be second to Ivey. They showed like 5 hands with Ivey from hours of play.
-
Yeah he ran like a god but only on the hands they showed. And that was probably only about 1% of hands he played all day. And obv ESPN just edits to show the best bits.
What do you guys reckon tho? Is it harder or easier being a top pro in this event cos you'll either get loads of guys coming after you just to say they busted you or you'll get a lot of respect and people will lay down many hands that they wouldn't against others so you could possibly get away with more? -
Showing Ivey losing pots does not make good TV. Thats why we dont see them.
-
Phil Ivey making the November 9 is probably the greatest thing for poker since the internets.
-
frank ur so far off right there, if ivey wants to win look at his track record, he wins. Sure some of the time he doesn't give a flying fuck because he can go play the highest cash games in the world for as much as first, but in an instance where he is motivated I will take Ivey over any player in the world, even against a few of those players as a team.
-
I'm prettttty sure i'd be pleased as pie to have Phil Ivey in my stable. I must say, sometimes you really make me wonder.
-
I've never played with Ivey or watched him live in a game that I understand how to play, but I've heard that he gets kind of a "special" treatment at the table. I've played live with Helmuth and watched him play live NLHE and it's true people do some epically stupid things against him, I've been led to believe Ivey operates under similar conditions.
Plus he's incredibly good at poker so I honestly doubt anyone other than Phil would have made the final table in his exact situation. Also he doesn't really play the most "technically perfect" style like a lot of the great NLHE MTTers, so a lot of things would have worked out differantly so who really knows? -
When Ivey gives a flying fuck about winning the tourney, he wins it. The only reason he doesn't win a shitload of tourneys is because he can make more in the cash games in a couple hands... The dude is sick, and would win EVERYTHING if he actually cared...
-
wow. This is such a terrible post that I am thinking I got leveled hard. Like.. really? No, no you can't be serious.

EDIT: and to answer OP, your question is impossible to answer b/c you can't just say "if so and so had the same seat/cards would they have won??", b/c literally every spot/situation/hand would have been different. -
not saying Lindgren or Negreanu are the best, but theres a pretty good reason they offered the player of the year challenge to any two man team in the world, except phil ivey, who was specifically excluded from participating, i interpret that as him being miles ahead of everyone that hes not even allowed to compete

.... are two feet that David Williams would love a shot at?
-
The only tournaments that Ivey plays on even a semi regular basis are the WSOP tournaments and he is by far and away the best WSOP player in the world since he started playing in them.

He won 7 WSOP bracelets also has 8 WPT final tables to go with 1 WPT title. He has over $10 million in MTT winnings without ever winning some huge high 7 figure Main Event. He has had 4 top 25 finishes in the main event over the past 8 years.
I cant imagine who you could put money on over Phil Ivey in a poker tournament really.
He may not be the best ONLINE MTT player, but live he's gotta be considered the best around. -
lol

frank i disagree too. he just has that X factor and rapes
