  2. He's playing small ball. He comes in for small raises, which means he can either get away cheaply or create favorable pot odds for himself.

    His non-standard 2x raise to 200 induced a mistake from you reraising to only 600. This is beautiful, now he only has to pay 400 into a 950 pot getting almost 2.5-1 with a speculative hand that he knows he can probably get you to bust against if he hits the flop right.

    If a normal player had raised to 300 do you just minraise here? I doubt it, you probably raise to at least 800, probably more like 900-1000. Don't play the small ball player's game, make them play yours. Make him pay to see flops. So that's my justification, he played small ball and played it to perfection in this particular case.
