I have been working really hard on my game for about the last 7-8 months. I started off with $1.80 in my account and have grinded the lowest limits (0.01/0.02 cash/$1.10 45 man sng's and 0.50 tourneys) until I reached just over $100 when I tried moving up to $3/45's. I went on a nasty downswing (compared to br) including 30 or so straight $4/180's with no cash and had to drop back down to the $1/45's when I hit $60. Worked myself back into the $3/45's and finally got a 2nd in a $4.40/180 to push my br up to around $370 (not alot I know..but atleast the right direction).
My question is this. Alot of you have or continue to grind the lowest limits poker sites have to offer but they take their toll on you. I love the game but sometimes it seems crazy to play 2-3 hours of sng's to be up maybe $5-$10 at the end of the night (if up at all). Finally this month I have had a "breakout" month (all relative of course) and have carried a roughly 200% ROI (you can OPR if you want) all month. I have spent the last 3/4's of a year working for a month like this and now that I've had it what do I do? Obv I can't keep that ROI up playing sng's so how do you keep from getting emotional about the next downswing and having it adversly effect your game? I have been on such a high all month and am still playing well but we all know the next downswing is just around the corner. I am just wondering how to deal when it hits and how to keep the drive, determination and patience going that I have shown through the first leg of my poker journey.
Any advice or personal stories of similar experiences would be great.

All I can say to you is keep on doign what you are doing if you dont have the money to be spending on poker.
I have a life bankroll that could support some higher buy in tourneys, but refuse to use it for online poker. I like to grind the mtt's that are in my BR, and if I hit a big one at any given point I will move up to the next level.
My advice to you is keep playing the limits you are at until you feel comfortable enough to play mid level-micro mtts. Playing $5-$22 mtts can be very profitable if you put in the time and dedication. If you hit big in one for a score over, say 2k+ your thought process/outlook on the game may change a bit. I am not saying to jump up levels immed once you "luck-bag" your way to a nice score, but you will def. feel more confidence in the levels you are currently at.
