So my anti virus said that I have a key logger.
I have not used my credit card info or logged in to anything for sometime because I have everything on auto log in.
So what is my risk level.
Can they get my credit card info from previous use? Or is it from the time I get the virus or my system gets the key logger?
I have that computer shutdown until I get it cleared up. Do Io need to dump my system? -
You should be ok, my understanding is that keyloggers specifically log the keystrokes in order which allows the recipient to deduce username / password / cc info / address / etc (and their associated web address/uses) fairly simply. That being said, if you have your stuff auto-logging as mine is you should be good.
You shouldn't need to dump... from your wording you're saying the antivirus found but did not remove the keylogger? -
at this point. I have just shut down my system.
I do not think that it removed it. But I am going to do another system scan to see. -
for sure, don't do ANYTHING on their without a clean bill of health. my surprise is that most antivirus utilities are equipped to quarentine/clean/remove infected files... I just use AVG Free and that does the trick for me.
Wouldn't you love to get ahold of the skinny jackass at his computer trying to pull this action? I would inflict pain but that's just me. -
I knew it had to happen sometime. I have been actively playing for about 5 years or so and this is the first time.
If castration was an option -
IMO if you get infected then it's time to wipe the drive.
-
no need to wipe ur drive i dont think, download this... www.malwarebytes.org it removes malware aka keyloggers etc. that should do the trick.
be advised this only removes them, it can't prevent them from happening again it isn't a firewall/anti-virus.
avg free is a decent anti virus to dl if you dont already have it. -
This would depend on how old you computer is and what type of anti virus you're running at the moment.
I'm an absolute noob when it comes to computers but even i managed to re format my hard drive and get everything back after a nasty virus incident.
You should back up all of your documents onto a USB/flash drive that has not been used for anything else. This is so that you can make sure that if any viruses exist on your personal files you can isolate them.
Format your computer back to its original state (its amazing how much faster this will make your PC if its a couple of years old and been clogged with crap) At this time you can choose to make an "image" of your hard drive should you need to do this again, but you should wait until a few steps later.
At this point you can also choose to segment your hard drive if you would like. Mine had 2 as standard but i chose to make 3 (OS, my stuff, business stuff)
Once you have formatted,do not update windows etc.. install a fresh version of your anti virus of choice. Once this has been done then you can update.
Install any other programs that you wish to use. Be sure that these all go to the same section of hard drive. Also make sure you keep documents separately. this way if youi get another virus, then your document have a better chance of being clean.
It might take a while but in my opinion its well worth it if your PC is a couple years old and you can't afford to upgrade. I did mine and i'm still happy with its performance, even though i probably replaced the PC 1-2 years ago.
Hope this helps -
In my experience I wouldn't bother with AVG free. It doesn't stop the really nasty viruses and the accompanying spyware. You have to pay for a decent software, I've used Spysweeper for the past 3 years and haven't had any problems at all. If you use online banking at all usually the bank will pay for an antivirus/spyware program for you for the first year.

thanks everyone.

Dated someone that had this, I can back this up, and it's only like $15 isn't it?
