i know there has been a couple posts like this recently...but they dont really help that much. im getting a new laptop. dont really know much about computers. i have a compaq 15.4" and it barely lasted me a year. i dont want to go compaq again for obv reasons. my budget is probably 2k at most including warranty. it needs to have atleast 2 gigs and bigger than 15.4" any suggestions?

you can go to hp.com and get one custom built with everything you want and without the stuff you don't want. I ordered mine a month ago and have been very happy with it. I got the 17" with a 2.5ghz intel processor, 3 gb ram, 240gb@7200rpm hard drive, webcam, mic, fingerprint reader, and a ridiculous graphics card with the upgraded screen for $1450. This thing is ballz fast, I'm usaully running 4-6 tables, pt. pa hud, itunes, and output to a second monitor runs very smooth. I did alot of research best customizable deal I was able to find. Hope this helps.

sounds good, alternatively toshiba do a nice off the shelf - Satellite pro - ticks all your boxes for much less than 2k

not sure what you budget is but for a good value machine, not one for high end video games but great for poker I would go with a dell inspiron. you can get a nice one on there website with a few upgrades on ram for under 700
i do computer repair as a side job and dells are the easiest to fix if they do break.
don't get any security add on for it and put AVG on.
NORTON SUCKS and is a memory hog
i just can't see spending over 1000 for a poker laptop, i can see for gaming but just a waste of money if all you need it for is poker.

A good site to checkout is notebookreview.com.
Really need more info in order to reccomend anything, so answer the following questions, and then I can give you some specific reccomendations.
What will you be using the laptop for mainly? i.e. poker, multimedia, business, school, video editing, audio recording, watching dvd's, etc.
Do you need something portable, or will you use it mostly at home? Also, will you be running off the battery very often, or will you usually be running it plugged in?
Would you use it for gaming at all?
If you multitable, how many tables do you usually play at once? -
Strictly poker WMP aim and browsing the web. i get nasty i play 3 sites daily and some times it gets up to 10 tables. on sundays its insane. so i figure i need 17" atleat with a high resolution. it will always be at my hosue and plugged in. unless i go out of town but size or wieght dont matter.
no gaming poker has consumed my life no time for anything but poker. and im willing to spend 1700 total with warranty. i can spend more if i cant find what i want for 1700 but not trying too. -
I'd reccomend just going with a Dell Vostro 1700 through Dell Small Business, well built, inexpensive, and you can get it with a 1920x1200 17" screen. Should be more than adequate for what you'd be using it for, and is well within you're budget (about $1000 for the configuration I threw together).
PM me your email, or if you have any questions (I'll probably lose track of this thread), and I'll send you the configuration I threw together. Dell has a bunch of overpriced upgrades and crap software you want to avoid having preinstalled, and I've had some experience ordering from Dell in the past. Also, I'd definatley reccomend Windows XP, which is an option on the Vostro and another reason I like them, as Windows Vista is a buggy memory hog IMHO. -
