anyone know what kind of minimum requirments a loptop should have for the use of playing online poker? I only want to use it for poker and i dont want to spend more that $1000. What kind of memery/hard drive do i need. I dont know that much about computers, and have always used a desktop.
-
lol nice edit anywho ask the guy at the store they are more knowledgeable than most p5ers on the subject
-
Basically it depends on two things a) how many sites are you on (that's the biggest thing for hard drive factor) and b) how many tables do you play on...if you're on more than two you're going to need more than just the bare minimum in memory.
I can appreciate the ask the guy at the store, but if said guy has never played poker, there you are anyway... -
it's actually spelled labtop
-
System requirements are minimal, any new laptop should be able to run multiple tables of multiple sites flawlessly. If you want to play 4 tables without overlap you are going to need a laptop with at least 1600x1200 resolution.
-
I'd agree here. On second thought, most of the new laptops are coming with minimum 40GB hard drives anyway, that's more than big enough.

i guess you have wireless connection at your house...listen to your dad, or at least respect him and move out if your profession is actually 'sng like clockwork'
-
thats what she said

You'll need 1 gig RAM (usually the min now). 40 Gigs hard drive. Definatly a good size monitor to multi table. Thats all you really need to look for.
-
That's what she said!
-
The most important thing to get is RAM. Get as much RAM as you can afford. My next laptop will have at least 2 gigabytes RAM. You might want a bigger hard drive if you play a lot of sites and save all your hand histories or datamine a lot. The rest is just gravy.
-
^thats what she said

Go to DELL OUTLETS. I cant stress enough what kind of great deals you can find here (either refurbished or scratch/dent items that were returned (which I have never seen an actual physical deformity on the many i have seen).
I got a E1705, 17'' ultrasharp screen, 1 gig ram, 2.1 ghz, etc. for just under $800 -
"What kind of memery/hard drive do i need." And you went to The University of Michigan State.
Why dont you just ask your dad what he recommends? -
Best laptop advice I was ever given was to pay AFTERWARDS.
-
Seems to me this guy is on here full of crap wasting peoples time---I wouldnt answer his posts anymore

Any new laptop will do. Hard drive is not important. Go with at least 1GB ram. Pentium M is preferred but Celeron will work fine too (poker software is not CPU intensive). A 1GHz processor is actually more than you need. As others have mentioned, the screen size (and screen resolution) is the other main consideration if you plan to multitable. 1400x1050 works ok for 4 tables (nonresizable) with slight overlap. Also make sure it has 802.11g for wireless. Stick with more established brands such as Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway or Sony rather than lesser known brands.

Beef,
I was reading the online version of the Detroit Free Press www.freep.com and it said the sellers are so desperate to sell and rent houses in the suburbs that they are giving away Dell XPS M1710 (*est. $3,450) for either a one year lease or the purchase of a new home. Unreal!!!
I think it is a great promotion to attract young poker players getting kicked out of their house by their dads.
Sorry just kidding.
