i hear that point, the same thing is up for debate here in massachusetts with all the casino money going to foxwoods
-
i will still be loyal to the indiana casinos, 20 min drive from where im from in ohio

if people want to gamble why shouldn't they? who are you to decide what people can and can't do with their money? the only debate is about personal freedom. your logic is flawed that because some people are addicts we shouldn't allow anyone to play. some people can't handle alcohol, and become addicted, but we don't ban alcohol for everyone because of those few. save the nanny state stuff for some authoritarian state and not here please.

but whose really gonna benefit? there is gonna be so much wasteful spending by governments that lots of the profits i imagine aren't going to benefit the greater good of the community, sure a portion of the profit will trickle down into social and civic improvement.
now i don't know the case in your state, but i assume the state is licencing private companines to come in and run these. thats whose going to benefit the most from this. -
i'm questioning it from a pure economic standpoint, and sure i'm taking certain social components into consideration as i believe they factor into any agrument when the state is claiming to purely do this for the economic benefits.
I'm really questioning how much does the state actually benefit and what are the pros and cons. Yes, its gonna create jobs, tax revenue but i think its fair to consider the negative aspects it will have on the state as a whole.
i have no problem with this from a capitalistic standpoint and do firmly believe in the individuals personal liberties but i doubt casinos are gonna have a great economic impact on any depressed ecomonic state. its a short term solution but it times liek this we need to focus on growng industries in states and cities that be have an impact in the global market. all casinos are doing is taking money out of the citizens hands and then recycling it with private corporations getting a major cut and then the state getting its cut. then a little of that money is used to benefit the people. -
It's terrible that it passed, casino's are trash and ruin lives and families. Everyone says if they vote for it it will bring all this money to the schools and keep money in Ohio, but if the people saying that would just vote for the local school levy's and issues they would actually save money in the long run. Think about it these are the same people going and playing at the casino wasting their money where 50 cents of every dollar go towards good things in the state and the other 50 cents goes towards the casino owners. If everyone would wake up and vote for good issues, 100% of their money given would go straight to the cause and their would be no problems.

i'd like to see some proof on casino's are trash and ruin lives and families...unless your talking from your own personal experience..
