  1. So this is mainly a question to those that play some live ring games at the Taj (lets throw is Borgata as well). What type of differences do you see or have experienced going from 1/2 NL to say 2/4 or 3/6 NL? Every time i play at the Taj i always play the 1/2 NL, kinda like this NL game due to the fact that i see a lot of idiots donating a lot of money and because i have always made money at this limit. So i would like to make this jump and would like to know what type of play to expect at this level (again 2/4 or 3/6 is what i would like to play sometime soon). Also, would it make sense to buy in for the max or would you buy in for less at those levels? What kind of BR to you have ready at those limits as well?
Thanks in advance. Just looking for some honest answers. I don't play more than once a month live but when i do, i do spend some crazy hours over the weekend.
It seems to me that playing live i get to focus a lot more and also i do feel that my chips in front of me, mean a lot more than when playing on line when the chips are just a number (but that's beside the point).

  2. You will find a better breed of player at the 2-5nl level in general however most tables will have at least 1-2 calling stations/ donators....just try to identify the regulars and the ones that love to gamble....pick on the ones u see overvaluing hands like top pair, and dont let the money affect ur play. I play mostly 2-5nl live now as i find the game easier to get a read on as most people tend to not be total retards. As far as bankroll requirements i would think about 10,000 would be a good number to have to withstand any swings of variance. hope that was helpful and pm me if u want more info :)

  3. Weeeeee, I can actually give a repsonse to something here lol...

The 1/2 at the Taj and Borgata, or any casino in AC for that matter is a good way to make easy money because all the donks, calling stations, and donators. 1/2 No Limit is what most people play in the casinos because this is the lowest limits that the casino offers in a NL game. Most of these players playing 1/2 are the ones who are either 1.just getting started building a bankroll 2. have played in their usual 20-50$ buy in home game and figure since they are at the casino for the weekend, how different can it be? 3. the underagers (and yes, there are a lot of them)

There is no 2/4 or 3/6 live games in AC. At the 2/5 level, you usually find a better quailty of players. But, of course, there is always those players who can usually tell are the loose, aggressive players. From what I have seen, the 2/5 game at the taj is usually always regulars, at the borgata, i know who the regulars are, but i would say 70% of the time on the weekends, i am sitting at a table with 4-6 people who I DONT recognize. You will probably find the 2/5 game easier to pick on the other player's strategies, betting patterns, etc. because of the little bit better quality of play.

I know that you said you dont play much live, but if you want to play 2/5 NL regularly, then i would suggest a BR of approx 15,000 (30 buy ins @ 500). This seems to set the comfort level pretty well. If you only play once a month live and nothing more than that, then having any amount of money doesnt really matter, since you are only going to play for a shortened amount of time. Its just up to you at that point whether or not you want to play the 1/2 game and buy in for 100-300, or play the "bigger" game and buy in from 200-500. My suggestion to you if you play 2/5 is to max buy in, i just feel more comfortable that way.

If you are looking for a soft 2/5 game...try Showboat and Hilton. Usually regulars, but the game is pretty weak IMO. Well good luck, hope that helped.
  4. sounds good. i was just wondering about the play at the higher levels. I am pretty much used to playing 1/2 for a few reasons, which you already mentioned; 1. 1/2 is the lowest level at which i have pretty much started out live, 2. The drunks/party people who like to play (they are always welcome to my table), 3. the massive calling stations and players who over bet/value their hands, etc. Next time i think i will try something different for experminet.... I'll start out with the max at the 1/2 NL (300 buy in). once i double up or get to 1,000 move up one level. This will be a pure test and for experience only.

  5. how much have you been winning at the 1/2 level

i do trop once a month and average about 200-300 for a 5 hour session, winning 4 out of 5 times, losing no more then 250 -300.

i too would like to move up to 2/5 but the donators at 1/2 are hard to give up

i buy in for $150 usually
  6. For 1/2 NL whats the most donktastic place to play?
  7. bsk181, to tell you the truth i do like 1/2 nl, and for the past 8 times i've been there, i make anything between 500-1200 withing 5 hours (profit). That's all in the last 8 times or so. One time i've made about 1100 in like 3 hours. i basically went there to make some dough and after 3 hours left. The play is straight up horrible at this level, and i am not even going to start naming some of the shit i see at the tables. i mean you got players blowing off 600-1000 within an hour, to bitches complaining how some are not tippin the deaer enough (and this convo has gone for hours at the tables). Its unbelievable. So my next trip is really geared towards a longer session at the 1/2Nl, i am actually thinking about playing between 8-12 hours at one sitting (and want to stay from friday till sunday). For me, i just get so focused when i play live as opposed to playing on line. i am actually taking a break from online for a month or two and strictly play live cash games (one weekend a month for 2-3 months). Of course the break from online is also due to family situation (twin daughters and a 4-year old - maybe this will explain how i can't focus for shit even at night time when all are sleeping...probably way to tired to even think straight)...bye bye online for a while. LOL

  8. your best bet is to play 10-20 or 20-40 limit. taj always has tables going at these levels and the pots are consistantly bigger. playing higher stakes limit is the way to go, its a no brainer. try it out u will be hooked
