  1. Played a tourney this morning at Mohegan and keep replaying a hand in my head as to what I should / could have done.

Blinds are 200/400 with 50 ante. We start with 8,000 chips and I'm sitting with about 15,000. On the button, it gets folded around to me. Look down to see QJos. I do a standard 3x raise to 1200. SB folds and the BB calls.

Reads on BB. He showed up late and played tight the entire time (for about an hour of play). The only hand I saw him show is when 2 limpers played into his BB and he checked with A-5os. Board came A-K-J and he checked around, 2 on the turn he bet out was called and river was a non relevant card and he check called and took it down.

Flop comes 8-9-J with 2 hearts. I felt this was a pretty dangerous texture flop (I don't have a heart). He checks to me and he has about 8k behind. I bet 2,000. He thinks for a second and goes allin for just over 6,000 more.

    WWYD?
  2. i fold. i also bet less on flop. if he is that tight he'll send you the same message either way.

Edit: I might check behind here in case even though he is tight he is willing to ship on a cbet with a huge draw and you have some showdown value and the gutter

  3. SNAP CALL

getting over 2-1 here. He could be doing this with a lot of flush draws combo draws that contain a pair and flush draw or pair and str8 draw like anything with a 10. You have that blocker Q to those str8 draws. I can see him doing this with a ton of shit. Your not likely running into 2 pair like hands in this spot bc like you said he had been tight you have a J in your hand so it makes it less likely. maybe hes flatting pre with 89soot type hands but not to many combos of that that hes showing up with and getting 2-1 here we still got outs. Ya you run into kj aj sometimes to but getting 2-1 here and you have a gutter ball out or 2 pair outs. cant see myself folding here button vs blind dynamics on top of it all

After betting 2k there im not folding for 6 more. What was your plan after leading the flop? With you being on the button i think he is making this move with a lot of draws and hands you are currently ahead of. I cant imagine folding as played.

  6. Would it change anything if I said this player viewed me as a strong player and even commented on it while at the table. He's seen me lay down hands after being the pre-flop aggressor so do you think that played into his mind when making the move?

The tournament was a $125 bounty tournament. $25 for every player that you knock out and rest to the main pot. Does this play into the pscyhological aspect of things?

Answer as to what happened will shortly follow. I'm liking the feedback so far though!

  7. Joey makes the most important point here...DO NOT bet the flop unless you know ahead of time what you're going to do if he shoves. Nothing wrong with checking back and evaluating the turn.

Let's also point out how bad the villain's play is here just calling pre-flop. He's got 18 BB to start the hand. Calling off 15% of his stack to see a flop, out of position, is shit. He should either shove or fold.

As played, there are so many hands that he shoves you're ahead of. Flush, straight, combo draws...getting 2:1, and there's a decent chance you're ahead, it's a leak to fold, IMO.

  8. First, I want to say thanks for all of the input you guys have given. It definitely is interesting to see many different points of view.

As played, the result happened like this:

He came over the top. I knew that I was going to make a stand with this hand because I felt this player was one that would be willing to make a move on me because he felt I could lay down good hands. Not to mention, getting 2:1 on my money, I knew I had to make the call if I was going to lead out on the flop. Checking was another option to re-evaluate the turn but with this players tight image, I thought there was a chance he would lay it down on the flop.

He turned over Q-10os with flopping the nut straight. The turn came a Jack giving me trips and outs to hit the board. But a 4 on the river shoved the pot to him. I couldn't put him on Q-10 as played, with just calling with the amount of BB's as graps said.

I managed to chip back up and got down to the last couple of tables and lost a crucial race AKs vs 10-10 preflop which basically sent me to the rail.

    Thanks for the input everyone.

  9. One key you may have considered was that he thought for a second, then shipped. The way I would look at that is he was planning all along to c/r all in if I bet. For a tight player with half my stack that means he wanted me to get enough chips in the pot to feel committed. So I fold here.
