Did I make the right play here:
Sit-Rep: Home game last night, 25 guys, 10K starting stacks, 20 min blinds, 25-50 blinds start
Down to two tables(about 15 left)...I have 38K, villian has 34K(two big stacks at table)
Villian is 30, played some online, plays at the boat quite a bit, and is a HUGE calling station...is very capable of making moves in unraised pots, and will float every flop if he has a decent ace. I get along with him, but that doesn't matter
7 handed I believe...blinds 400-800
F,F,F
call
button folds
SB: I complete with Ad-10c(I know raise, but old donks behind me are calling stations)
BB: olddonk checks
(4000 in pot)
FLOP: Qd Jc 8d (double gutter with over and bd flushdraw)
I check
old donk checks
mid bets 2000
i call
old donk calls(pot 10,000)
TURN: 5s
I check
BB checks
villian bets 5000(15,000)
I call(I'm think he has two pair now, and am strictly floating to see to hit the 8 outs)
old donk folds
RIVER: Kh
I specifically dont lead at this b/c I do know this guy well enough that even if he doesn't have two pair, he is going to lead at this pot
Villian bets 5000(20,000)
I raise to 19,000(39,000)
he calls with Q-J o/s
ok, i know i caught up, am I wrong calling the turn with 3x1 knowing the implied odds are huge if I hit? I was willing to throw away 8K(20%) of my stack chasing, is this hugely wrong at the time.
obv. he goes nuts, and I told him it happens, he's done it a ton of times to me in the past(he will not fold a flush draw, even if you move all-in on the turn) and to move on.
thoughts??donk play by me risking so much at pivotal point? I went on to win the tourney, but have been thinking about the play since.... -
5k is a big bet to call drawing to only 8 outs with 1 pull of the deck...you'll stack him 1/5 times...and wind up with 28k the other 4 (assuming you check/fold the river)...so, idk, it's not horrendous...but it does seem a little spewy to just check/call twice like that then fold the river when you miss
and why didn't you get all of his chips? you said you thought he had 2 pair and wasn't gonna fold, you should have doubled through him

If you think you have the implied odds to call, why not?

nh. check raise more on the river next time if you think he can't muck two pair.

thanks for the input.
i thought the raise leaving some money behind looked more like a bluff...maybe overthinking.
