  1. There are 7 players left, 4 spots get paid. Blinds are at 2k/4k: I have 65k, 4 stacks are around the 50k mark, and the two smallest stacks are just over 20k.

The player to my left (UTG in this hand) is very tight and already in push/fold mode. She has a 55k stack and has shown that she shoves any pair 7's+ and AK. She limps with KT-AQ, and everything else she won't play. So She shoves about 15BB's (56k) UTG.

It comes around to me in the BB and I wake up with AKo. I put her on a pair between 8's and Q's, and eventually decide I don't wanna race here b/c I feel like the table is weak and I can chip up well simply by stealing the blinds as everyone tries to make the money.

    Some things I considered:

If I call and LOSE the race, I'm left in the SB with a 3 BB stack, basically finsished

I am 99% positive that she has a mid-large pair, and best case scenario I'm racing

The table likes to limp a wide range, but for the most part folds on the flop (easy to buy pots)

So the obv question is, with the relatively high blinds and low M's, do I just hafta bite the bullet and race here or is this not a bad fold when I believe I can do well without risking my tourney life calling all in with a coin toss?

I ended up folding AK face up and she turned over JJ as she raked the pot (blinds)

IMO if there were limpers (a.k.a more pot odds) I have to call, but as there was only the SB and my BB in the pot, I convinced myself to find a better spot to get my chips in, and against any other player who's shove range might include AQ, AJs KQs, I obv call. Did I think myself into bad fold?

    This was a $20 rebuy I was in for $120... 1st $860 2nd $600 3rd $400 4th $200
  2. Would like to know a little more info like the buyin and how much is 4th - 1st. I think that if you're calling in this spot its because you want 1st place and not just to limp into the money.

However given the range of the player in question a fold isn't a bad play either. I personally wouldn't fold in this spot.

  3. Tough spot, but since you have her solidly on a pair, you are behind, and on the off chance she has AA or KK, you are in trouble.

Would be nice to know the difference in the pay ranks. This plays a lot different if 1-4th payed the same (like a sattilite), where this is an easy fold, to something where 1st takes everything, where you very well might call, take this flip to win the whole thing.

I don't mind either play here.
  4. Blinds are at 2k/4k: I have 65k ....... It comes around to me in the BB and I wake up with AKo

With these stacks sizes and AK, I am NEVER folding regardless of the situation, unless its the main event of the world series bubble and theres 3 people all in in front of me, MAYBE. You have to get it in here, and play for the win. You can't wait for better hands with your stack and only 7 players left. Your not behind anything here. Gamble it up for a monster stack and go for the friggin win. If you aren't putting your money in here, then you shouldn't be playing Mtt's live or online. A fold here is not only NOT borderline, but its really bad to fold. the stacks are not big enough to just, "not take a flip", your dominating him or else its a race, with dead money in the pot, gl

  5. Also, despite the fact you appear to be a chip leader, you have 15 bb's and are in no shape to run over the table as raise/fold vs these other stack sizes is going to be straight spew.

Folding here is inconceivable unless you are playing on case money and even then, well.....
  6. Thx for the input guys. Ultimately I made the fold b/c I KNEW I was up against a pair and just wasn't feeling my (hopefully) 6 outs. But now that I see comments and take time to think about payouts etc. Its obv I shoulda called and gone for the W, as I woulda been a monster CL with over 120k stack if I hit. Anything < 1st or maybe 2 or 3 handed chop woulda been pretty meaningless, and with the entire table having M's ranging from 5 to 15, you just gotta gamble there.

Got the feedback I kinda expected to confirm that I'm a nit :(

FTR I ended up busting in 7th hahaha. we just shuffled chips around for 2 more levels and at 4k/8k I shipped 8s9s from the button and was insta-called by 7h8h in the SB for 3/4 his stack. 7 rivered..

Guess what my first thought was? (after cursing the 3 outter) "what the hell did I fold AK for"
