  1. I'm from Aberdeen Scotland and played in the local casino last night. They had a £10+1R(about $20+2) NoLimitHoldem MTT with about 60 people. Starting stacks were 2000, with the blinds at 100/200. Rebuys for the first hour. There was a lot of all ins with average to awful hands. Is this the way to play this sort of tourney? Basically allowing myself several rebuys in the hope to build up a decent stack before the cut off?

I'm relatively new to the game and play often with varying(mostly bad) success online. Just thought i'd ask what you guys think about this tourney, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
  2. You got it sk.

Thats how rebuys roll. I usually cap my rebuys at 5. Some nights its just not your night.

  3. You can keep the money. I want your baby.
  4. 2000 chips with blinds STARTING at 100/200? Even if this WASN'T a rebuy you'd have to be pushing with lots of hands. That's a terrible structure for a tournament.
  5. Yeah it's definately a terrible structure. It's the only casino with mtts in the area so big lack of choice. I guess it's designed to get masses of rebuys.

What i was wondering is, bearing in mind at this point it's basically all in or nothing, what sorta hands to you push with? face cards? suited cards? Any ace? Stay tight until maybe the last 20 minutes of the rebuy then go for broke?

thanks for the answers so far, especially the fat bastard picture....the things us scots have to put up with i tell ya ;-)

  6. Any 2 with that structure. K9 off and Im pushing, 76 off and Im pushing
  7. yes, i shove til i get 10k in chips. THEN....i shove some more
  8. Well, with 60 players, and let's assume on average everyone rebuys 3 times (some will do more, som less) You're essentially looking at something like 480,000 chips in play (assuming no add-on). If 50 players are left after the rebuy (I'd imagine some people would decide not to rebuy anymore, or were playing it freezeout style) the average chip stack would be around 9.6k. And after one hour, I'm guessing the blinds will be something like 250/500 or 300/600, so 20x the BB is about 12k. So to be comfortable, you're going to want to double up 3 times during the hour. If you're playing about 30 hands an hour (about what I average in most cardrooms), you're really going to have to push with a lot here to double up 10% of your hands.

So what hands are most likely to get you doubled up? If everyone is pushing with a wide range, your best bet is to find live cards. I think A-rag and K-rag are dangerous to push or call with, because anyone else with an A will be in there too, and probably have you beat. Any pocket pair is probably good, and I think suited connectors are a solid bet, as you're likely live with them.

People are going to call you down with all kinds of trash, so if you happen to find yourself in a flop before being all in and you've connected in any way, SHOVE. You might push some people off total air, and A high might even call you down.

This is definitely an interesting way to have to play, everyone so short stacked. Let us know what you see next time you're down there, I'd be really interested to know what kind of play you run into.
