This hand has been on my mind so I'd like to get some general thoughts on it from others.
$255 buy in WPT regional event (6max)
217 entries with about 45 remaining (27 paid)
Hero (80k) - moved to this table about 25 min before this hand with about 15bb. Shoved a couple hands without being called and then doubled up 99 > 66 a couple hands before this to ~80k
Villian (60k) - only read on him was that he was talking about doubling up or busting so he wouldn't have to come back the next day shortstacked.
About 20 minutes left before bagging up for the day.
Blinds 1k - 2k w/200 ante
Action folds to me on the button. I raise A9cc to 5k.
Villian flats in SB and BB folds.
Flop (13200) 7 8 9 rainbow with 1club
Villian insta shoves with ~55k
Hero - ?? -
I'm calling this here. If villain had a pair he would have probably 3 bet pre. Also, if villain flopped two pair or a straight I don't think he would shove unless he reads that you have an overpair with I think I highly unlikely. I think it's more likely that villain has a hand with an 8 or 9 in it. Possibly A8, which I think would get 3 bet pre, or 10,9 which you are beating but has outs. I just can't see myself folding here.

I agree. I think the type of hands that he is jamming at best is pair with open end ender, which you are still going to be flipping in that type of spot, but I think that is absolute best hand he has. Hands like QJ you are a 60% fav on, and if he has hands like A7 or A8 you have him pipped up pretty well.

First off, did you call, and if you did, what did he show up with here? -
After a little thought, I called for the exact reasons you both listed. I mentioned out loud "i guess you have a straight draw". He had 10 7cc for bottom pair and open ender. The 10 came on the river.

Been debating whether it was a good call or not, but if we all agree that a pair & open ender is at the top of his range here, I'm good with it. -
you have to call, that shove is so weak it's rediculous. he really is just trying to push you out of the hand with outs to back him up if he runs into a non nutted hand
