  1. I'm going to play my first live multi table tournament a $30 R&A and would like some feedback on the differences between the two.
  2. Hey Deanna, welcome to the boards. One major difference in live tourneys is you see a LOT fewer hands per hour, so particularly during the rebuy period, you might have to be slightly less picky about the gambles you take. It depends, of course, on how long the rebuy period is and what the blind structure is (see if the blinds double every time they go up), but if it's anything like the rebuy tourneys I play in Tunica every so often, the structure is FAST. That means you really gotta gamble a lot early or you will quickly (within an hour after rebuy) find yourself severely short stacked. Good luck!

  3. Wow, so many differences, yet so similar. Obviously the online tourney is going to move a lot faster. An R&A with 700 entries will be finished in 5 hours, while the B&M game will take all day. Online, you can block the chat, so if you don't want to have all the jibberjabber, you can avoid it and focus on the play. Whenever I play in a casino tournament now, I completely ignore all the body language and acting that goes on. I believe that if a player becomes a very solid online player, it is very easy to make the transition to B&M games. However, I don't believe the reverse is true. If you are a good live player, online may not come so easily. Anyone want to agree or disagree?

The same rules apply in both live and online games. Play the percentages, be patient, avoid calling huge raises unless you're loaded, and you'll generally be fine. Patience is the great divider between a good player and an average or poor one.
