  1. The court decision in Franklin Circuit Court today here in Kentucky has left me really uncertain as to my future playing poker. After talking to a friend, he suggested that it could be possible to set up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to a friend's computer in another state. Considering I know how to turn on my computer, and login to poker websites, but not much else, I'd like some advice from someone more savvy than myself as to what can be done if this decision is enforced. Whether a VPN would be possible to set up,and any technical challenges to doing this. If there would be a better alternative to this, please suggest it. I'm open to whatever, I really don't want to have to move to a neighboring state to make a living.
  2. Hi Raisor, long time no see. Still playing PLO8 on UB?

it's possible - but it would be illegal. What are you going to do with the money you win? Pay taxes on it? Busted! Not pay taxes on it? Double illegal.

It's soooo stupid. They say to protect horse racing. Yeah right. If poker were illegal I will spend exactly $0.00 on horseracing in Knetucky or anywhere else. They say to protect children from using their parents credit cards and go and play poker. Oh, I see, but paying for porn and so is okay then? They say gambling is immoral. Oh yeah? Do they even know what happens to all those horses that come of the racetrack at age of 6 (which is young for a horse but too old for race horse)? They are being hauled in apalling conditions to slaughterhouses in Mexico and Canada (horseslaughter too is illegal in this free country) where the horses suffer tremendously before being ground and canned for export to Belgium. I find THAT immoral.

  4. I'm pretty sure there are some websites offering VPN services, or services that are very similar to it, which you could use to bypass the internet ban. Moving out of state seems ridiculous when you can just pay $10 or $20 a month for a service like this.

I've dealt with Remote Desktop Access with lots of success (high school had ridiculous censors, so I just did RDA with my computer at home, and did whatever the fuck I wanted), but never VPN. It seems pretty simple at first glance. If I were you, I'd try the process out with a friend locally, and if you get that to work, try them with the person out of state that you know. Guides for you:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...pert/vpns.mspx <--access VPN

  5. you think the sites will actually block KY IPs?
  6. there is a nifty program out there called hidemyip. I would take a look into it.

I would be willing to bet a shiny nickel that the Kentucky legislation is only looking to take the domain names. The governor isn't making online poker any more illegal than it is now; he is just making it inaccessible to Kentuckians.

If Raisor is worried about paying taxes on it, he can just file as a live pro and claim his online winnings as live winnings.

Sorry, but to lie down against bullshit legislation like this is more of a crime than playing online poker.

Henry David Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience" FTW:

Unjust laws exist; shall we be content to obey them, or shall we endeavor to amend them, and obey them until we have succeeded, or shall we transgress them at once? Men generally, under such a government as this, think that they ought to wait until they have persuaded the majority to alter them. They think that, if they should resist, the remedy would be worse than the evil. But it is the fault of the government itself that the remedy is worse than the evil. It makes it worse. Why is it not more apt to anticipate and provide for reform? Why does it not cherish its wise minority? Why does it cry and resist before it is hurt? Why does it not encourage its citizens to be on the alert to point out its faults, and do better than it would have them? Why does it always crucify Christ, and excommunicate Copernicus and Luther, and pronounce Washington and Franklin rebels?

  8. I call it getting life rivered.

  9. Lefty,

I appreciate the insight and advice you've given. Still exploring all my options... but the things you've suggested sound good, and pretty much in line with some other advice I've been given.

The thing that really sucks the worst about all this shit is that it isn't the Kentucky Legislature that is doing this, it's the judiciary. The governor made an end run around the lawmakers and used that increasingly insidious way to get unpopular shit done, Judicial Activism. Just find a judge with your belief system, and then u can just say Fuck the Voter.

Will keep youall posted with how things are going in the BLuegrass State

  13. has anyone tried remote accessing or vpn? would pstars be okay with people doing this? i don't know if stars can tell if someone is using remote desktop. but i can see where this could lead to people multi accounting, Remote to two different computer in two different location, 2 different accounts.
  14. just move farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr away from Kentucky and ur str8
  15. This really sucks. I moved away from kentucky in 1979 and just moved back this summer. Had I known this BS was going to happen, I would have moved to TN. What a weasel this governor is. Is he a Republican?
  16. isnt it just the website URLs that are being banned/seized? Won't you still be able to access the clients?? (i haven't read up on the case at all so pardon my ignorance).

Raizor,...its Hatfield,..glad to see you hitting the boards. As of now I can still log in to all of my poker clients,..you having problems? As for Breshear,..he is the most idiotic ass clown to ever be voted into a governing office. I love the fact that this states thrives off of three industries: Bourbon, Tobacco, and Horse Racing,..yet he decided to take the moral "highgound" an attempt to ban online gambling? This is the most ridiculous example of the goverment circumventing the general public in order to accomplish their own personal agendas, and protect their own financial well being. GG KY,...Indiana FTW!!!!

  21. with all do respect jlivey, the new policies trying to be forced on us that are clear violations of our civil liberties go against all the freedoms that our soldiers have fought. if the us military is supposed to defend and protect america and its ideals maybe it should start at home where these dangerous precendents being set by our government that are the greatest threat to us as americans.

  22. If they are only blocking the domains, does that mean they are making the names resolv to different IPs? IF so, you could just hardcode the sites IP addresses in your hosts file. Problem solved.

    Actually...online poker is not illegal.

*Edit* And yes you're totally right. If the American public doesn't agree with a law, they should just shut up and not say anything about it. I mean, damn us for thinking we live in a democracy or anything.
