First, Im not posting this as a brag post, so much as out of excitiment because its the first live tourney Ive ever flat-out OWNED.
So, I got the opportunity to play in a charity tourney, which I NEVER play in. But this particular one gaurenteed that you would be at a table with Phil Laak or Greenstien as long as they were still in. If they busted, you were to be given a card, which you could hold up ONCE to get one of them to come over and give you advice on a hand. (Before you ask, if two people wanted advice on the same hand, they go by whichever card the dealer saw go up first).
You started out with $2k in chips, blinds at 25/25 and 30-minute levels...not great, but one of the better structures Ive seen for a charity tourney, which is usually a joke, which is why I dont normally play them. In the first 2 levels I get KK twice and AA once and literally stack another player everytime. So by the first break I have like $9500. After the break, Phil Laak sits at my table. I literally go card dead and about 30 minutes later, some kid busts Laak. Im down to about 8500 with blinds at 100/200. I pick up AK and raise UTG. A middle position player and the BB call me. The flop comes A-K-9. BB bets about 1/2 the pot, middle position caller smooth calls, I think its ripe for a squeese play, I move in, BB calls, middle player folds. BB has AQ, Im up to about $15K. I play pretty standard and go into second break with $21k. Come back from second break, blinds are like 400/800 (might have been 500/1000, cant remember). And who is at my table but the almighty Barry Greenstien! And man does he have chips!
Im gonna say he has like $50k + in chips when he sits down. Literally about 3 hands into it, I check with 55 in the BB, flop a set and double up off of Barry when he has A-J on a J-5-T flop. So now I have like 38ish and he has 32ish. Blinds are up to about 600/1200. You need to realize now that I havent made one of my fake posts in a while, so that is exactly what this is and it never happened. The problem is that you guys have become so adept at picking them out that I have to struggle to hide it. So anyway, Barry raises to 3k from the button, and I make it 9k to go with JJ (the death hand). He moves in, I think and call....he has TT and I win, busting Barry, taking almost all the chips he came to the table with and becoming the chip leader. At this point there are only about 12 of left. The next/last break comes when we are down to 9 and we are all at the FT. WOO HOO. Id say I have in the area of 70K chips and the next guy has like 40-45k with blinds at 2000/4000.
The first hour of the final table was like a blur. I think it took about 20 minutes to knock out 3 people. They were all pretty shortstacked though, but now people are catching up to me in chips. I have about 60, the other 5 have high 40s. Two players then have AA and KK, and for the first time Ive lost the chip lead to a guy that has about 80K now. By the way, in case you didnt catch this the first time, none of this ever happened and the whole thing is totally made up. But, we were 4-handed and I was second in chips. Then the big hand came up. First to act makes it 10k to go (blinds 2k/4k). Next guy moves all in. Small blind folds and what do I see? AA. Well, I move in as well and wouldnt you know the initial raiser calls! So we are now 3-way all in I have AA the initial raiser has QQ and the guy who moved in ahead of me has 99. Well, AA holds up and I cant even count how many chips I have now. Its heads up and I have a monster chip lead. A few hands in, my opponant calls, and I check with 5-6 offsuit. Flop is 3-4-7. He checks, I check. Turn is an A. He checks, I bet out about half the pot and he moves in. I call, he has AQ and I WIN!!!!
Hope you all enjoyed my first brag/win post...sorry it was so long!! -
