I ran into a guy Playing stud @ FW in 2004 who was wearing a WSOP bracelet. I was kinda star struck and started to ask him about it and he told me he bought it for $500 at a Pawn shop in AC in 2001. I thought it was pretty sad at the time, but Figured it probably happens mpore than I think. There is like 35+ events each year and not every winner remains solvent.

i remember a cpl years ago, going to play in a 100$ rebuy at the Orleans Hotel with gboro and ari...we get registered for the maybe 60 person field...and we see Cloutier just hanging around, bumming the free hot dogs asking for a stake in the tournament. looks like this isn't a new development :/

I don't think it's that bad to purchase a wsop bracelet as a collectible but wearing it to a tourny is just pathetic.
-
On the bright side, we've finally figured out how Hellmuth got all those bracelets.
-
You guys don't get it....he is not comparing Haiti and TJ but saying you shouldn't laugh at peoples misery. If TJ is broke and addicted to gambling it's sad not funny.
-
I dealt dice to TJ for a bit. He couldnt have been any nicer a guy to deal too. The only difference between TJ and Phil Ivey is that Ivey because of his share of FTP has a more unlimited BR.. They are both degenerates of the highest order in terms of gambling but Phil is considered a hero and TJ is a laughing stock.
-
The highlight of my WSOP was learning the ins/outs of craps from TJ at the Rio. Was pretty sad though, every break he was there at the craps tables. If you are walking into the Rio during the WSOP and someone wants to bet if TJ is at the craps tables or not, definitely bet that he will be there.

A few days later i saw him at the craps tables.... -
You're forgetting that Phil is a winner at Chinese, online cash games, Bobby's Room, etc. He has positive cash flow away from the pit, regardless of his cut from FTP.
TJ's a degenerate who hits the craps tables with every penny he has (and sometimes, with money that isn't his).
So, Fink, I think you should rephrase the initial statement to be "the only similarity between TJ and Phil Ivey is they both play craps." -
good game TJ
-
I would sell the bracelet if I won it. especially if I was 70. He's not impressing anyone with it at his age. I would rather have the money, even if i was planning on blowing it.

people who wear Sports jereseys with thier own name on the back are the same people who buy these things and wear them.

How often do you play chinese poker with Phil Ivey to know he is a winner at it?

a lot of the top players over the years have collected other peoples bracelets and still do...

I'm glad there's someone with a brain, and a heart on this forum. To all you people lol'ing at TJ's misery, I hope someday you all go bust, and have a forum ridicule your bad fortune. The guy is probably someone's husband, father, grandfather, uncle. Show some compassion. He is as much a degenerate as any of us poker players, just to varying degrees. What he has, and all of us have, is a disease. He probably has as much control over his actions at this point as the Haitians did of an earthquake hitting, which is to say none. So all I am saying is, you all should, how did someone put it earlier, GTFO?, who laugh at the failings of people like TJ, Stu Ungar, Tiger Woods, Michael Jackson, Brittany Spears, et al. You should feel sympathy for them and hope you never have to walk a mile in their shoes.

LOL @ gambling being a disease. It can become an addiction for some, but it's hardly a disease. That's like people claiming that alcoholism is a disease. It's the most pathetic copout ever. Some people in life are unable to take accountability for their actions so it's easier for them to blame it on something else.

Never have to walk in MJ's and Britneys shoes? LOL like they had it so tough the poor babies gimme a fucking break.
TJ Cloutier is an idiot for having zero self discipline. I don't think his situation is funny at all but at the same time I sure as fucking hell don't feel sorry for the guy.
Comparing mental case celebrities and degenerate poker players to the poverty stricken people suffering in Haiti is just plain retarded. -
lololol

spending most of the summer in the rio sng satty room it became common occurrence to see cloutier trolling for stakes or looking around the crowd for someone he knew to give him a buy in.
i dont feel bad for him or most degenerate gamblers they are after all how i make my living. people making sub-optimal game choices and playing in games they cant beat is something i dont feel bad about but wish more people would do it. for some people that happens to be the nightly 100k on stars for others its craps. ive seem some sick amount of gambling traveling to tourneys and gambling is def a disease im just not going to feel bad about these peoples lives while also taking money out of there pocket. -
i dont think anyone is happy to cloutier broke but at the same time they dont need to feel sorry for him.
also phil ivey gambles with money he can afford to lose and cloutier obviously gambled with money he couldnt afford to lose.
he shouldnt worry hes about to make 3K off his bracelet so he should be all good if he runs good at the craps table. -
Collectors maybe? it is a piece of poker history after all. Its like why would anyone want to buy Elvis's underwear? He's dead. I'm sure there is always someone that would buy them too...after all he was Elvis.
Its amzing that some of the best poker players have a huge gambling problem...be it craps, golf, sports, etc....all that money they make at the cash tables, why waste it on stupid bets? -
