Yeah big self control issues here. you take $5000 to vegas, lose it all and keep going???
If you cant walk away when your rock bottom then you'll never be able to walk away when your up. You eventually played on borrowed money, got ridiculously lucky and still didnt have enough sense to count your blessings and WALK AWAY!
you have no regard for money and play compulsively and recklessly.
Do not feel proud.... -
Why all the hate on this guy?? Just because he showed no responsibility with his bankroll management, got lucky with roulette, and did drugs? He cashed in the ME, too and went home with a good deal of money. In his story he also says that he goes on to finish school. I don't see why everyone is calling him a degen and an idiot. Guy was on the run of his life feeling lucky. Whats so bad about him upping his bets on roulette when he has just hit the time before? It was a rush of good luck for him. So instead of being a pessimistic vagina and pulling out, he went with it and hit. He made his own luck at roulette. As for the ME, he went with his gut to play it, and again made his own luck. Like BG said "math is stupid" or "math is for idiots," sometimes it is going with your feel or going with your gut that matters the most! I am not condoning his actions or saying that I would have done the same if I were in that spot, but I do give him credit. Also, who is to say that this guy does not have everything under control now?

are you matt damon op? good story btw

cool read

As if WI didn't have a bad enough rep as it is. There are soooo many people here who think they are "pros" who have no clue (well, I guess that happens everywhere). I mean, if OP is happy, then good for him, but please let our state's rep flounder on its own.
-
I think it's funny that the OP can't get over the AQ hand which he played fine, and doesn't worry about the KK hand which was played horribly.

results matter?

Rapidly becoming my favorite PD poster.

I understand it was the main event which is rough, but if you cannot put one tournament behind you and move on, than you are just not built for this thing we call tournament poker. Shyt just today, I had bad beats that resulted in a 1200 dollar loss for the day instead of a 6-12k day of profit. You just shake them off, analyze if you played the hand optimally and if so, you move on...its the only way to go.
However, among friends that I know..most who have a gambling problem in general just don't do that well in poker as even when they win, they can lose it on craps, roulette, sports betting, etc...
When I read the title, I thought i was going to be reading some story about hard fought wins at the poker table, months of playing tournament after tournament until you fought thru the variance and found the one touranment where luck met skill. Instead, your rush came from a very very unlikely run at the roulette table, one that you won't be able to repeat in your lifetime....and buying into the main event with more than 20% of your roll and after spending 3-4k in sats trying to get in...i'm just shaking my head over that one.
It is stories like these that make me want to grab a shotgun and just end it for one of us...not sure if i want to end it for you before you sprial downwards even further and for wasting 50,000 bux, or if i want to end it for me for seeing all the guys like you win 50k and all the guys like me who follow br rules, are disciplined, and control emotions after bad beats not win shyt... such spiteaments in life..and i just can't help it after reading this one.

Good read man, I love stuff like this. You gotta take risks in life. It's funny to read stories like this because the takes on it are so polarizing. Your right jdpc27, you should just kill yourself, your world is going to suck if you continue to be such a life nit. I'm suprised at the people who are hating on this guy, every poker player I would think doesn't have a lot of respect for money due to it just being the nature of the business. The guy took a shot and it paid off, kudos I say.
-
i enjoyed it...fuck it 5k into 50k watever...its youre money.
-
WOW! Not saying I condone your actions, but one hell of a summer Id say! Turning borrowed 1k into 250k in 3 months! Hope you have some money locked up and on the right path now, that story could have gone a complete different direction!

Good read. Definitely a Degen :)
-
dude i've played with you in vegas, peter from wisconsin....go back to school brother...this will get old fast...especially when tourists like me from NYC extract max value from you after you made your straight on a paired board and then bet into me....stay away from table games. Ridiculous

See, when you fully support yourself on poker, you take risks, but you also utilize common sense. As much as I am all for getting and pushing a rush, I also like to make sure I have something to show for all those hours put in. For example, I had an over 50k month in Feb. so, you know what I did? I took 30k of it out and locked in profit. The other 20k I added to my online roll and am using it to play a ton of 26-300$ MTT's supplemented with a ton of SNG's to also generate rakeback. This literally ensures my chances of going busto are slim to nil and that over the next few months, I will get a great return out of that 20k. Life nit or someone who isn't stupid enough to put all their eggs in 3 or 4 tournaments instead of across 200 tournaments?? you be the judge. But I'll tell you this much...when the story of jdpc27 is written, it won't include anything about sleeping on a bench outside the rio.
As for my life sucking..I'll give you that. I mean..it really sucks to take vacations all over the world every year (Amsterdam, London, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid on tap for 09), sit on the couch in my pajamas on my fulltilt dual 30 in monitors while flipping channels on the fulltilt 50in plasma, while my hottie g/f who tolerates my poker obsession due to said vacations helps support my career by rolling me a nice fattie to get over the numerous bad beats i will suffer today so that i don't break said 30 in and 50 in fulltilt screens. Meanwhile, tomorrow I will wake up at whatever time I feel like, work only if i am in the mood, and still probably make more tomorrow than most do in a week... However, none of this will provide me with any pleasure because among my fellow p5's, i'm only viewed as a half degen cuz i practice some form of discipline and control....god damn maturity..I mean..if it helps my rep around here, before i settled down and became such a life nit, i did spend a ton of money over the years on barsluts, hookers, and weed.. Am I cool now? Difference between me and a total degen? I value and respect lady poker for all that she is and does for me...phuk man..after reading this i realize how much my life sucks..*SIGH* Please oh please pass me the shotgun xmas32 so that I can end the misery that is my life....

Damn ur way more baller than the OP ur gf is decent 2, keep it up

Good read. I have heard that the ME field is redic soft and this pretty much confirms it. Drugs and/or table games = epic failures ahead.
-
i'm not one to usually get in chest beating contests, but calling me a life nit sends me on life tilt.
-
OP, I can tell you (me being an "old guy") that you're gonna love having this story in your vault 25 years from now. WP sir.
