  1. Ok so i can consistentlly beat low limit sit and gos, have good understanding of sit and go strategy and succesful in satellites etc. I have been taking my game seriously since December 06 and in every area of poker eg online poker, live games and homes games i have $7000 profit. I understand that this is probably quite good for someone playing between $5 and $10 but its just the amount of time I put in to win this amount doesnt seem worth it. Am i just too impatient? I feel like i am wasting my time. I still enjoy mtts, however little success (thats not to say i havent been extremely close on a number of occasions). But i spend mon, tue, wed nights playin online and a large chunk of my weekend.

Feel like im always studying the game and willing to learn - but i guess im just losing motivation. Anyone else have this problem? How did you get through? I started with the intention of being the next SCTrojans and Annette lol, but im most succesful in sit and gos but i just find these so boring and dont want to waste my evenings for like $30-$50. My lust for that big cash is what im after. I have great bankroll management and at the table patience is my best attribute...but im losing patience. Is it time to throw in the towel and find a new hobby or just play a select number of mtts per week

    Advice please
  2. Quit or move up.

Decide how much would make you happy per day, $300, $500, then work on a plan to move up.

Do 100 $20 sng's and if you are profitable, move up til you are making your target. $33, then $50 then $100 sng's.
Set yoursel a stop loss, if you dont make a profit or a target at each new level, then pack it in.
  3. If you have grinded out 7k in profit playing low limit sngs, why not take that $$ and take a shot at some bigger games? It sounds like you've put in the effort to improve your game to the point where you are a compotent player, and now you have a big enough bankroll to move up in stakes. Seems like a no brainer to me.
  4. If I remember right SCTrojans tilted and played a 100rebuy(or 200 rebuy) hit a heater and never looked back.

Your tournament schedule on the nghts you play should be...
    3rebuy
    11 6-max
    16.50 360 max
anything else in that price range.
    all give 2k+for first.

SNGS will steal your soul away, constant grind.

Try that schedule for a week and see how you do.
    Then re-evaluate.

Remember though most players are losing ones so any kind of profit puts you up there.
  5. Although i have $7k profit i only have a $2k roll. I have like 50 x $26 fulltilt tokens aswell. My target profit for 12 months was 10k and i think i can achieve it. LOL thats kind of how i feel about sit and gos. I guess this is kind of a frustration post. I appreciate any and all advice

  6. I think ill use all these tokens and then do the 100x sit and go thing. I think im gonna try a new site maybe.

  7. With 50 26 tokens,
Just grind them all out in the nightly 26 tournies.
If you play 50 without a deep finish, or win, then mtts really aren't your thing.
You'll need to look at your game at this point, maybe have a friend ghost you.
But something will have to change.
  8. "dont want to waste my evenings for like $30-$50."

Okay, so the average Joe would be happy making $30-$50 for an evenings entertainment, as opposed to making nothing sitting around drinking beer and watching the tube.

So how much do you need to make in an evenings play so you do not feel like it is a "waste"?

Build up your roll, and enter higher SNGs that have the potential to return whatever that non-waste winning amount is.

If you are playing bad and can't regularly win that amount, then drop down a level or two, you now have a new goal to work towards.
  9. You can take some bigger shots at a realtively low risk with those tokens.
Play the $26 18 man sitngos for $76 tokens. Top 5 win a token and if you're an SNG grinder these should be a breeze. Play the $69+6 satties into the sunday $750k. Win a ticket and then you're practically freerolling for a biig score. I've been pretty succesful with this (all except for doing well in the 750k, need to work on that part =0 )
    good luck!
  10. i realise that $30-$50 is good and others would appreciate this and i do aswell - what i mean is i start work at 7.30 finish at 3.30ish go to the gym for like 2 hours, walk the dog for 1 hour, get home and play sit and gos for 3hours - it becomes quite a drag especially when ur builidng a roll and have nothing frm winnings

  11. so if it is a drag don't play or add to the roll and move up in stakes where the winnings don't make it a drag.
  12. a girlfriend would help
  13. Well, moving up is always an option. $7k in profits should be conclusive enough proof that your a winning player at the level.

But, what if you don't have the money or the inclination to move up. Maybe it's time to play less. Not neccessarily throw in the towel. But, you seem to be playing for fun (with the money as a nice second thing). So, are you denying yourself other things in life to play poker?

So, maybe what you need is just another hobby, and to play poker less. Nothing wrong with this, some nights you spend with the other hobby (whether it be Yoga, playing video games, reading, gardening, running, making beer in your garage etc). Then, you can just do whatever you want that day.
  14. But, you seem to be playing for fun (with the money as a nice second thing). So, are you denying yourself other things in life to play poker?

This is exactly the point! I play too much for it to remain fun i guess, and playing at the stakes i am will never be amazingly profitable considering the time i have to put in to win. My dream was to get good enough to move up and up etc and maybe i do have the ability (emphasis on maybe) but as we all know it takes so much hard work and TIME that i dont think i can.. without damaging relationship with girlfriend, buddies or family

  15. if you really have 50 $26 tokens i would try playing some of the $75 token sats to step up, you could probably turn those into say 20 $75 tokens and then if you can get one high finish in one of the bigger tourneys you will be very happy. the $26 tourneys on FTP are pretty soft from what i see, but they are also large fields, the $75 ones are smaller which in this case might be better. in any event, i wouldnt give up, if you arent a member of a training site i would join one.
  16. I am in a similar boat. Its not much but i used to spend easily as much time playing counter-strike and age of kings as i do now playing poker. Now I get some beer money and stuff for my efforts. Think if your hobby was anything else, if you weren't playing online what would you be doing?
  17. You have to be willing to commit money to make money. 50 26 dollar tokens and a 2K BR should be plenty to play every possible 26 dollar tourney that FTP has to offer.. All the guarantees and the 26/180's. If you cant hit a score in that many buy ins then will your a good SNG player and not a good tourney player.
  18. Creg, ur SNG numbers are nice, as you already know I think and ur BR is big enough to take a shot at some bigger ones. You have nearly 100 BI at the 20s.

Also man, if you have 50 tokens, start using them, you WILL pop a tourney or two for a big score. I just started playin higher volume MTTs (used to try the SNG high volume thing) and for a month I felt like I was running in place (with good numbers) untill I popped 2 in 3 days. I fully expect to run in place for awhile again untill I pop another. My point is, MTTs are about that way as far as I can tell. Anyways man, you know I have a ton of respect for your game. ESPECIALLY your patience and discipline. I think you should move up in stakes and give MTTs a shot. Your good enough youll get that score.

    GL man.
  19. well, u can change what you play.

Playing cash games would be good for you because, they are more profitable than sng's and would be a new challenge for you to overcome.

I know it because its what im doing now, been playing mtts from begin of the year.

Cash games have a bigger $/h and are a different challenge altough they can be a a little boring after a while.
  20. Play less often.
  21. Short and sweet jennifer lol. Thanks for compliments tiltinshoes. Maybe a break is in order! Think ill cash out some money and buy something nice. Ill concentrate on using up these tokens first tho.

    ;)
