  1. Long debate at the table after this hand.

    Bodog 6k gty ($20)

    We're at 30/60. Average stack was probably around 1800 or so. No reads on villain except the pokerdb gives me FishTime. Also I've been sickly card-dead for a looooooong time.

    Total pot is 1785, 1125 to call, I need 39% equity to make it +EV.

    Looking at the shove, it really smelled to me as a guy trying to steal a pot. Maybe a small pair or a junky ace. Definitely something he wouldn't want to play postflop.

    If I call and lose, I have exactly 5 chips left. Call and win and I've more than doubled. I decided to go with my gut reaction, call and gamble a bit.

    What would you do?

    Thanks........

  2. Zubs,

    If we assume that he is only semi bluffing in his steal attempt and is making this play with only the top 10% of hands then, suprisingly, this is a good call as you have 42% equity.

    That being said, I'm pretty sure we can find a better spot than this.

    And what if assume he's donking about? (plus whatever your gut feel is worth to you...?)

    My point was that even if he was only semibluffing with the steal attempt, you are still good. If he is capable of making this play with ATC, you have 63.4% equity.

    OK 2 of you guiys who's opinions I respect say wait.

    Reason I'm asking is that my gut was dead on - he showed up with 46dd.

    you make this call face up right?

  7. Even though it's early, you still only have 20 bb's. If villain is capable of shoving light here then I'm calling 100% of the time.

  8. How could anyone fold face up?

    i was asking the hypothetical, if villain shoves and then fliups his cards up before I have to act- so i know what he has....it's an auto-call....

    yes. obv. you'll be 62%.

  12. You said that you had a dead read on him, so if you 'know' that suited-connectors were in his range that I like this call A LOT more, but last night, just taking the hand as straight-forward and in a vacuum, it looks more like ur a dog to a range of something like:

    Board:

    Dead:

    equity win tie pots won pots tied

    Hand 0: 43.646% 40.83% 02.82% 464234664 32006504.00 { KQs }

    Hand 1: 56.354% 53.54% 02.82% 608722184 32006504.00 { 22+, A8s+, KTs+, QJs, A9o+, KQo }

    So, without knowing much about what Glenn is capable of I just thought this looked like a marginal spot. I usually try to avoid marginal spots unless its go time and i gotta get it in.

    Paz- since you were at the table interesting to seee the range you assign. Given that range, I'm better then a coinflip from the pot odds - I only need 39% - so that'd be 4% edge if you nailed his range right.

    Guess it's a question of whether you want to flip or not......

  14. I definitely fold, yo're very rarely going to have him dominated, and you will be dominated a good portion of the time. Wait till the blinds go up and you can use a good push fold strategy to stay alive deep in many tourneys. Calling for this many chips is very bad, not to say I've never done it. Many times I see people make moves like his shove and think they are just shoving to pick up the dead money when in fact many players aren't wild enough to shove hands like 4d6d in spots like this and in fact are just lucky to pick up decent hands in great spots. gl.

    edit - you should really be looking for greater than 39% equity since this tourney is full of bad players nd you are calling off 1200 chips at 30-60. Wait for a better spot and pound on the players late when the blinds go up.

  16. This is an easy fold. It really bothers me when people limp/call off, esp at this level. Like you limped because you felt your hand didnt have enough value to open yet you're willing to get your whole stack in as a value call?

    Even when you do call in this spot, his range runs half decent against a KQs holding. Any pocket pair is good and you're flipping for your tourney life when blinds are still plenty small for you to wait for a more reasonable spot to get it in. If not a pocket pair, then any suited ace (which I'm assuming if he's shoving ace rag, it'd prolly be suited there at the least), you're a dog there too.

    I can't think of a single hand that I limp behind then call off with at this level.
