i find myself going very deep in an mtt then busting between positions 14-27 too many times. and im never one of the shortstacks. several times i just end up making a really big blunder like an allin bluff on the turn- something to pick up chips- when really i didnt need to make that sort of move. any advice on how to approach late in tourneys with an average stack?

Well. UMmm Dont bluff off all your chips in that spot..

Sounds like you are just getting in a hurry. There should be short stacks at the table who are much more deperate than you and even some mid stacks who are looking bluff of their chips, like someone mentioned here. :)
Just be patient and let the action come to you. With the increasing blinds, there should be no shortage of action and when you make a move to pick up the blinds and antes...if you get played back at...just let the hand go. The point was to steal...not give your money to the police.

I have a similar issue with making mistimed moves (e.g. five minutes ago, re-raising a button raiser all-in from the BB with 107s when he had AK)
In low buy-in tournies ($30 and below) I've had the most success in the late stages just playing ABC poker with the occasional blind steal and waiting for good cards or a good situation to push all-in to pick up the blinds, antes.
I don't think advanced moves, like re-steals, big bluffs, work often enough in low limit MTTs to be optimal strategy. But I'd like to hear what more experience players think.
