I had a spot in a SnG today where my 'feeling' was very strong and the outcome was positive. It made me start thinking about how much feeling has to do with decision making and what other players' take is on the subject.
What is your take on "feeling" while you're playing? Do you subdue your gut instincts and fold in certain spots? Do you embrace your feelings while your playing and rely on them 100%? Has anyone tracked the decisions they've made based off of feeling? If so, what conclusion did you come to based off the data set? -
The "feelings" that I use to make decisions are all based off of factors such as bet sizes, table image, history with certain players, etc.
What are your "feelings" and gut instincts based off of? If you take any of the aforementioned factors into account, then they're not so much "feelings" as they are analytical decisions. -
there are a lot of articles and threads around that talk about the EV of particular spots and whether or not calling/folding/raising/etc are appropriate for certain situations. all of these are simply based on ranges you put on the villain based on the action in a hand, and on the image of you and your opponent(s) at the table.
what i believe you mean by going with your "feeling" is you're instinctively and maybe unconsciously putting the villain on a range based maybe on the way he played a certain hand, or maybe on his image at the table, and you played the hand accordingly. what you probably need to also understand is that the equity values that determine the EV of spots are solely based on whether or not the play (usually calling or folding) determine if that play is profitable or not in the long run. I.e if you are getting 3 to 1 to call an all-in, and based on the range you put the villain on you have 30% equity, you should call the all-in because the EV of that spot is positive (if you're getting 3 to 1 on your money you only need 25% equity for it to be a break even play, anything above it is +EV). another thing to take into consideration that is important, especially in sng's, is ICM (but again it is ultimately just another type of statistical way of determining if a play is the right play.) -
i made a decision yesterday based off feel. i just doubled up AK vs QQ and now sitting on 35bbs or so. very next hand its folded to me OTB with A7dd i raise sb makes like a 2.75x 3b. had no read but it just felt like he was making a play.
idk something just felt suspicious.
was probably based on assumptions. it was confirmed later that the opponent was a light 3 bettor. -
I think gut feeling w out reads or bet sizing tales could be dangerous, I would be more inclined to go w what I thought the right play is, not what eminem or dre on each shoulder would say, lol. LOL @ eminem video metaphor, but seriously, I know what you mean and sometimes you just feel it, but I would still try and think of more factors to support my decision before making it.

I feel that I want to win but take into account everyone else wants to win too-feelings can get you broke-play smart gl

Think about why you are feeling a certain way.

OP.. are you sure that your "feeling" isn't just rapid cognition derived from your relative subconscious?
