Is there any players that are actually making a profit playing .50/l.00 or l.00/2.00 LIMIT ring games?
With a bankroll of $l,600 what would be the highest one should play LIMIT ring games?
Thanks -
1600 i would play 2/4 or 3/6...

If you have no experience playing limit, I wouldn't go higher than 3/6 with that roll. .50/1 and 1/2 are too small for you to make any serious money, and the style of play is similar to rabid monkeys playing hungry hungry hippo's. I'd try playing 2 6 handed tables of 2/4 limit and seeing how you do. If you find yourself doing better on one than the other just close it. I'd recommend that sklansky book. I think it's called Holdem Poker or something....it's based on the 10/20 game in california or something, but if you use his hand groupings and guidelines you can take full ring 3/6 - 10/20 apart, especially on pokerstars. Limit can give you immediate success but to really scrape the $ you should read a book or two...PM me if you need any help...i took the last few weeks off but I play 5/10- 15/30 on stars...maybe i can ghost ur session or something...or just give you some advice...

Another thought is that, on some sites, about 75% of the limit cash game players are BOTS. Especially on the 888 network. Not to say the bots are incredibly tough players, but they dont get fatigued or stressed about money.
That being said, the 3-6 limit games were my living for about 3 months when i first began playing. -
2/4 is perfectly safe with a $1600 br
3/6 starts to get borderline
from what i've done on stars when i played alot of limit cash last year i was more profitable the higher the limit because you dont have as many donks calling you with over cards to suck out with something strange ont he river
then again these are the people that pay you off the most when you have the nuts...
so yeah
2/4 has some awful players but they'll be better than 0.50/1.00 and you can acctually make a little profit to make it worth your time -
The book korrupt mentioned is "Small Stakes Hold'em" by Sklansky.
We should ask is the OP talking specifically about Limit Hold'em. I make a profit playing .5/1 and 1/2 Stud and Razz. Hold'em at those limits is who can chase down the best hand. With your roll I would read the Sklansky book and be playing 2/4. -
I play 1/2 ring and 2/4 shorthanded. At 1/2 I'm at just over 2bb/100 over my last 130,000 hands, and at 2/4 I'm just over 1.5bb/100 over about 35,000 hands. Even 1/2 is a lot different then it used to be. People think that 1/2 is full of fish with 6-7 players to the flop, this is not the case anymore. Live I play 5/10 and feel I have a huge advantage, at 3/6 online I feel around 0 EV. During poker boom days, playing party bad beat tables, I had 100,000 hand runs at 4-6 bb/100. The games are definately beatable, just not at the rate that they were in the past.
As for a book, Small Stakes Hold Em by Miller and Sklansky is pure gold.
And your BR is good for up to 3/6.
I pray for a day when the US government repeals the UIGEA, starts regulated online poker, and millions of new player start to flood the games.
Edit: Just a side note, the games where people are calling with overcards and longshot draws, the games you take the most bad beats, are the MOST profitable limit games around. -
Yes, strictly LIMIT holdem...thanks for responding. And I've read Sklanksy's book and the one by Lee Jones.

Thanks, Korrupt...please check your PM..

mbc82584, you stated that you made your living for the first 3 months when you started playing...how many hours a day were you playing, etc...and how are you making your living now?
Thanks for your post. -
dank, I realize that we want those that chase their draws or try stay in with bottom pair and hope to hit their set on the river..but, man those badbeats when they get lucky sure do get expensive after awhile...ugh.
Thanks for your post. -
Also, poker tracker and either Gametime+ or PAHUD are a must for limit players.
