Avg stack is about 18k, I have no reads on villain.
I thought he was doing the standard steal from the BB so I attempted to resteal. In MTTs I seem to get into the pattern of having the same sized stack for a long time until I get into a big hand, and this isn't really ideal because if I'm not catching cards I'm just blinding out, and that tends to happen. So I'm trying to mix it up, pick up a few pots here and there but I very often seem to be zigging and zagging at the wrong times...
Is this a bad play (if so, why?)? If not, anything I should have done different? Bet more preflop? Give up on the flop? Any comments are appreciated.
It is the daily dollar rebuy so it's filled with idiots, and maybe it's just not a good play to do this when many people just don't know how to fold in these low stakes tourneys...
What do you lot reckon?

fold preflop. You're out of position and 87 is not a good hand to play heads up. Theres no need to get impatient at this stage with an average stack, wait for a better spot to get your money in. I hate the cbet on the flop as well because you have hit absolutely nothing and you don't have any read on hands that the button may hold.

Not this. If you're going to try to resteal here you should cbet that flop almost always.

OP: I'm a nit so I just fold pf but you should be 3 betting more imo, at least 3300-3600. Turn is a bad card and a good time to shut down. -
Ok I agree if he attempts to re-steal the blinds than he should cbet the flop. That would be weak play. But I think its a pretty obvious fold preflop

I was in much the same boat as you, where I'd get a decent stack and then basically blind it off when nothing worked for me. So I also tried shaking it up. It took a while to really find my real rhythm.

I agree with the other two posters and my thought would be to continue raising/reraising light (this is the sort of hand to do it with too) but do so from position.
I probably shouldn't admit this, but with a medium stack I pretty much just give up fighting in the blinds. So easy to get committed with a medium strength hand out of position. -
obviously this situation should have never even occured. Folding preflop is undesputably the correct move here. To avoid your biggest problem, playing too tight, try getting into pots with playable hands in position. You mentioned this tourny was the daily dollar in which you are given 3k starting chips. Jump in with marginal hands in position. Maintain leverage and pot control through consistent small-medium size bets. You'l be suprized at how quick your stack can grow with out ever having to be all-in. And when you are all in, you'l likely have the nuts. Hope this brief word helps.
Good luck,
Dom
