Hey all, Any of you in MA know any information about the bill? I read in the metro today it is closer to passing since the main opponent is now out (Dimasi?). The first go around there was a clause in there that made online gambling illegal. Luckily Barney Frank stepped up last time, any news on this go around where it has the same "clause" in it? I checked PPA but can't find more info out... Thx!

no idea but now you are making me wish i read the metro this morning

WEEI reported that now like 58% (IIRC) of Mass residents support a "destination style casino" now. Funny how things change now that the economy is in the toilet, Big Dig is over (sigh), etc. I hope they go to Middleboro its only like 10 mins from my house. I think the Wampanoags are going to build one there no matter what. They aready have all the land and have federal recognition. Massachusetts should be smart and aid them in getting it done in order to get a piece of the action, insted they fight them and the state might get nothing since they are immune to many if not all federal and state taxes ( I think).

I am praying the build in Middleboro. Right now it is looking like they are trying for Palmer. Apparently the Mohegan Tribe opened up some kind of storefront in downtown Palmer. I saw on the news last night that Gov. Patrick and the new speaker of the house met yesterday and the speaker was vague but said he "is open to discussing the possibilities." which is a hell of a lot better than what crooked Dimaisi was saying.

If they do build in Palmer I think Foxwoods would still be just as close for a lot of people in Boston area if not closer. It is still going to be a few years off no matter what happens but if I was a betting man I would say it will get approved now. Patrick is all for it. -
what you guys may not realize is that part of this bill is to prohibit online gambling.see when your corrupt and get paid to pass a bill for the casinos you have to eliminate the online competition as part of that deal
-
if i couldnt play online in the steat of mass i wouldnt want a casino foxwoods is close enough
-
id certainly save a lot of money if they banned online poker, but opening a casino in mass doesn't mean that there will be a poker room, right away at least. They'd obviously be doing competition with Foxwoods, and now Mohegan. People an hour away from either casino are probably still gonna go to foxwoods.
Unless it was closer to where I am from i wouldn't mind -
If they did open a resort casino which is what they are lobbying for I am fairly certain there would be a poker room. I agree with you though about the proximity. If they open a casino in Palmer it is going to make no difference to me but Middleboro is a half hour away from me and I would much rather play live than online. Please let this happen.

As far as I understand the bill it is almost exactly the same as last time around except they lifted the ban on internet poker.

You sure about that? I am looking for the documentation, because the previous version was pretty clear about it!
