  1. This is not something that happens very often, but when it does, of course I want to as much value out of the hand as possible. Is it possible to get more out of this hand?

I'm generally TAG, and this table had been very active. I was about 19/10 in this session and villian had been LAG 38/4. I was hoping for a flush to fill or his card to hit so that some more cash would get in the middle. Maybe the river card was the killer in this hand, or should I have bet as if I was bluffing? IDK, any ideas? Or was this all I could get?

  2. What did he have? You don't know, but that's the thing in poker, just because you get a massive hand doesn't mean instant win. You have to know what he has. Big wins (and losses) usually happen when 2 people have huge hands (set vs set, boat vs 4 of a kind, etc).

He very well could have had straight/flush draws on the turn, and missed them all. If he hits, he may pay you off.

In this sort of spot, I would think the 4 missed him completely, and he's done (or he has trip 4's and a payday). I'd be very tempted to check here. If he has a made hand, he'll bet out/call a raise by you on the river. If he missed a draw, he might bluff at the pot/fold to your raise.

But, for the most part, you just won't extract tons of chips here.
  3. Flatting the reraise on the turn looks stronger than 3 betting would imo. The river card sucks and there's not much you can do once the board is paired twice except bet like you did. Just got ul.
  4. I think (IMHO) you missed a bet on the flop. Start building the pot. The most deceptive move is to bet (0.20), the stone cold nuts on the flop. He might think you're trying to steal on a scarry board. Then on the turn the pot will be larger and a bet of 1/2 PSB will build the pot more then when he raises you a mini re-raise will not look so large. Then you could bet 1/2 the pot on the river or check to induce a bluff (as the other comments have suggested).

If he's drawing and doesn't have an 'A' to call with his kicker on the 2-pair board you probably won't get a call, but he might bluff. It depends. Usually calling stations don't bet, they call.

On the river you could bet 0.40 as a value bet since that was the amount of his raise on the turn. The 0.70 bet puts to much pressure on him to call just getting 3:1 on his money. Give him (5:1)+ with the 0.40 bet.
  5. Thanks for the responses, guys. This is generally a tough hand to play (33) UTG, hence the limp. I was looking at it from a perspective of 3 players, no PFR, and a seemingly unthreatening board. My check on the flop was trying to find action by another small PP or draw. By the turn, I knew I had to start trying to build the pot, and was happy that I got raised. True, flatting that raise may have looked stronger than reraising to some, but I felt that against this guy it might be the right play. It was typical of him to try to raise players off a hand if he felt they were weak, but would usually back off if pushed. So, I was trying to nurse him.

By the river, with the 4 dropping in, I was stuck. Anything but the 4, please! I wanted to induce a bluff. I hoped he might be strong enough to call a half pot bet, but also felt he would check behind if I let him. My thinking, suck bet won't work, looks too strong. No way I think he calls an overbet, too risky. So I bet out half pot hoping that he may see a strange looking value bluff and let curiosity do its work.

As far as his hand, I would lean towards a flush draw. I think he did well to not lose any more than he did. Definitely a LAG, but not too spewy. BTW, got him good just a few hands later with a set of Q's on a AQx board, so I got the $ anyway.

    Thanks guys, responses always welcomed.

  6. Sadly, you got about all the action you were going to get. It sure sucks that an Ace or a King didn't hit so you could soak him, but even winning that one raise was better than nothing.

A few weeks ago I was playing at these same stakes and I had 9-9 in the SB. I limped against the BB and the flop came Q-9-9. I check, he checks, turn is a K, I check he bets, I call. River is an Ace. I lead for half the pot and he folds. $1.20 with quad nines. Oh well.
