  1. I'm about to go to bed and figured I'd leave you guys with something to think about that really isnt discussed much: The check min-raise by micro donks. I really have no idea how to play against it especially with shallow stack sizes. It's annoying, it's frustrating, and it happens almost every micro tourney I'm in.

So cmon guys, post some thoughts on this and I'll get back and respond in the morning.

And so ppl dont immediately say it's too vague of a topic. This is the type of hand I'm talking about. It is a bit generalized but if you play micros u should know what I'm saying.

    u have 88 with 25bb's
    villian has XX with 17bb's

    u raise 2.5x get flatted

    flop is 3 5 10 rainbow

he checks u bet 5/8 pot. he minraises

    you?
  2. fold.

if the board has heavier draws i might get it in, like T76 2 diamonds or something, but his range for minraising owns u on that board

  3. i usually snap fold as fast as possible because most of the time when i get it in, its a monster
  4. shove your microstack obv
  5. my dad play's the microtournies mainly, and all he does is minraise. I've tried and tried to get him to raise more, and he will for a while, but then gets back to his minraises. I think you're just playing with old guys.
  6. min raise him back and if he insta min reraises you or shoves, fold
  7. If you're playing against a bad player, 9 times out of ten, this is a monster. I like to use this move against semi-thinking players in micro/mid stake tourneys. I can usually get them off a hand with it.

Well, this is 1 of 3 things from my experience.

    1) He caught huge, and this is his raise. It's usually top pair or more (it could be a very strong draw too, but for your board, I'm thinking AJ or better)

    2) This is a bluff. You usually see the bluff on low boards. It's something like 8-5-2, and you cbet, you get the min raise because they put you on AK. Pushing these isn't bad (well, imagining you have 66 in this spot), since you get tons of folds, and the times you are called it's many times 2 overs.

    3) This can be done by a thinking player to mess with you (again, if he has a huge hand, so similar to #1). This is done because so many donk players just can't fold to a min raise. They'll cbet bluff when they miss, get min raised, and hang around, where they'd fold to a stronger raise. Difference here is, a thinking player can fold average hands in this spot if you push, where players in 1 are calling all the time.

Still, when I'm in these spots, unless they've called me a few times and I've folded, I'm getting away from the hand here. It just isn't worth the risk.

Edit: I think the real nightmare is the check/call in these spots. That can be something like K10, but it could be middle or bottom pair. Then, what do you do? Do you bet the turn/fold to a push? If you check the turn, you can bet a pot size river bet is coming your way, whether he has anything or not, then have fun deciding to call that.

I'd rather deal with the min raise than the flat call.
