  1. If you could win a wsop event and take home $500,000 and the bracelet, or finish 2nd, and get $550,000 which would you choose? If you pick 500k+bracelet, how much more would it take to have you opt for the money and 2nd place instead? 600k? 700k? (assume your win is legitimate, and you are recoginzed as true champion. I am just trying to get an idea of how much a bracelet is worth to people. )
  2. Taking the W and bracelet in the scenario you presented...maybe if it's over $100 K I would take 2nd.

  3. bracelet itself is worth heaps in terms of site deals etc if ur from a withered country like scotland :)
  4. The free million! Ive been swayed, imthedeck!!
  5. normally i'd say $$ all day. but in the hypothetical scenario you posed, i'd take money and bracelet b/c i could get more than $50k in worth from that bracelet.
  6. If its the ME, and 1st gets 4 Mil and bracelet, and 2nd gets 8 Mil. Id easily take 2nd.

Practically everyone who makes the ft makes heaps off endorsements, u dont need to win the ME to be picked up by a site. if it were somethin like the horse championship or somethin, id rather take first cuz a tournament like that shows true skill.
  7. I can't believe only the winner gets a bracelet. Some people may never win one. Maybe 60% of the field should get bracelets and we wouldn't have this problem.
  8. i dont need a braclet i need big ass houses n cars

    What?
  10. We play poker to win money... seems like the easiest answer ever. If the bracelet was only a bracelet and didnt mean more money in terms of sponsorship then 100% take the 2nd place for more money. If the bracelet means you can get more than the 550k you take the bracelet... easy game. Bracelet is nice but there shouldnt be any poker player who would rather have the bracelet just because it is a bracelet. Example, winning a razz event for like 100k or coming 2nd in the ME for 6 mil or whatever it was... ya im going to take the 6 mil all day

Reason: maybe silver bracelets for last 2 tables and bronze for last 3 tables?
  12. how much did Eastgate sold his bracelet ???
Unless it is worse the difference, I'll follow Daize all day !!! Big houses, traveling for years without working seems IMO way better than poker glory...

    So this.
  18. Not that I'll ever get to the point, but there would be a point in my career where the bracelets would mean more to me than the money. If I had more than enough earnings to live my life the way I want, I'd be more determined to get bracelets and other tourney wins than just chasing the money. Don't know if it would be at 1 million, 2 million, or 10 million, but there would be a point where the money just doesn't mean as much as the thrill of the victory or the bracelet.

this actually seems very wrong...the winner gets wayyyy more promotions and notoriety than the other ft people. sure, you can become an ftp pro for a year or two if you ft...but who cares. win the ME and you're set for quite some time

  20. second in ME i would def take over winning random event for 500k in a heart beat! however if it was second in another random event for 700k or first in a diff random event for 500k im taking the first place finish i think

it all depends on how you market yourself as well. I guess Im depending on myself marketing myself. Look at eastgate vs Dennis Phillips. It looks like Phillips won that ME. or Cada V Moon.

Cada and Eastgate seem to be on the quite tame side when it comes to personality. Basically imho if you finish in the top 3, if you market yourself right, you can make just as much if not more than someone who finishes 1st and doesn't take advantage of the spot light.

And you say u can become a ftop pro for a year or two. Its not like ftp is just gonna drop you after a year. If u become the face of poker yourself, and represent the company well, and seem like someone who can be in the spotlight and attract people to your site, theyre going to keep you. It's all about marketability, and Phillips is a WAY more likable character than peter eastgate (if your someone who has no idea about poker and wants to start "getting lucky"... obv people who play poker and know poker kno that eastgate is the more skilled player there, but hopefully u get my point)

you're talking about this stuff like a year after it happened...wait 5 or 10 years and see if you even remember any of the names that didn't win...would bet a lot of money that you won't...

there has to be some sort of internet pic thing that has the caption - "Not seeing the big picture"

  26. bracelet/first place 'cause it's worth way more than $50K.
  27. $100ish buyin Omaha8 tourny last summer in the Binion's classic. We had chip chopped 5 or 6 handed, I got a good deal on my 2nd place stack for about 2nd place money (around $2100). We left $150 and the crystal trophy for the winner. 3 handed I was sitting 3rd in chips and the chip leader really wanted the trophy, offered us each $75 if he could have it. Definitely +$EV for me as my stack wasn't in good shape, but winning the trophy had value so I declined. I busted out shortly thereafter. Deal was made right after, I think the other guy got $125 and the chip leader $25 and the trophy.

My rationale was that I wanted to play it out, had already locked up over $2k so $75 more (3.5%) wasn't really that enticing. That being said, $50k certainly isn't chump change (especially since it's 10% of $500k), so I probably would take $50k in lieu of the bracelet. I'd go buy my own bling or whatever the hell I want with that $50k.
  28. Even if the bracelet had no monetary value, and winning it meant no extra money for endorsements, in this case, I'd take the bracelet. $500k and $550k changes my life exactly the same (and it's what, and extra $30k after taxes). Having a bracelet would be a personal accomplishment of mine, and it would be something that would hold sentimental value for me worth the money.

Now, what difference would I need? I don't know, I would need enough to feel like the money is a step up. Definitely $500k and bracelet or $1M and no bracelet, give me the $1M. Yet, if it was the ME, and it was $7M bracelet and $8M no bracelet, I might take the bracelet again, and then just tell myself that I was the best in the world for that year (even if I'm really not, and just won one tournament).
  29. I think if we were all playing for just a bracelet and no money, not very many people would even play. The money is what we all play for, add a bracelet to that and you can make even more money in endorsements. So technically, it's about the money for everyone.
  30. Give me the bracelet! Most prestigious item in poker.

Shows your a baller, without flashing around money like a giant douche.
