  1. This guy has become a pretty solid player ( watched poker after dark )..........what u guys think of his play????

  2. i think he has played really well on poker after dark..i have been impressed.
  3. He had a 6 hour layover here in Phoenix so came down to Casino Arizona and played 60/120. He was actually playing incredibly solid, drawing a lot of action and getting sucked out on quite a bit, as I think the grinders were anxious to take their shot at a World Champ, he was stuck 3-4 thousand. But then his hands starting holding up and he was definetely outplaying the table - guys who put in 40-50 hours a week at 60/120 and 75/150. He would run plays like raising the flop to get a free card, check the turn, then the draw would hit on the river, and they'd get 3 bets in on the river. Was pretty amazing, he ended up turning it around and left up 1500 or so.

I've also heard of him sitting down at the Rio on weekends when they take the cap off the 5/10 game, buy in for 15k and pretty much run the table with another big name pro, I wanna say JC Tran but not sure that's right.

A lot of the time on TV, he does look like a drunken slob, but I think overall he's been playing pretty solid poker, especially as of late. No matter what he does though, it's never gonna be enough, people are always gonna call him a luckbox and look for reasons to not like him, especially since Raymer and Hachem have followed up their ME victories with very solid showings the next year.

One way or another though, he did a lot for the game of poker, and there is no doubt that it wouldn't be as big as it is today without him.
  4. Every time Ive dealt to him at MGM when we have 5/10 games going, he crushes them. We talked one night and I asked him if he ever plays higher limits and he said very rarely.....he told me he knows his place in the poker world and its not at a 50/100 or 100/200nl game.
  5. He's definitely playing well on Poker after Dark, arguably playing the best out of the remaining players considering he hasn't even really gotten many hands.

I think the main problem with everyone's perception of Moneymaker is the fact that he didn't follow up his WSOP win the following year with a good showing. He did get 2nd in the Bay 101 that year but nothing spectacular at the WSOP itself. He admitted that he wasn't playing his best game that year and just wasn't focused (supposedly was trashed before the main event).

Also, he doesn't play enough tournaments nowadays to have a chance at proving himself.

On the Circuit a few weeks ago, he said he'd be trying to play a lot more tournaments this coming year so who knows what will happen.

Based on the play on P.A.D., I think there seems to be more reason to question Gold as a donk. He was absolutely horrendous.
  6. he's easy HU if it's him for the stars TLB
  7. Game I was referring to above were obv limit. That makes sense though, as I've heard he plays a lot of 5/10NL and does well in them.

I just watched tonights epsiode of PAD and was very impressed. Good read on Doyle, raising flop with Ace high, then a better play on Ferguson, re-raising with 5 high. I fully believe if everybody folded on the hand he had 45, he was gonna show the table and say something like "this is my 10-2, doyle", then when Ferguson called he just kind of improvised. Looks like he was debating whether or not to re-raise Ferguson or just to lay it down. I like this play because all his debate then he takes a big sigh and announces raise, makes it look like he has a monster.

What I really liked though is after he pulled both these bluffs he just mucked his cards. Both times Gold pulled off a bluff, he showed them face up, like he needed to prove he belonged with these guys, when all he was doing was making himself look like an ass and cost him table image. Once would have been fine, but you're playing with some of the games best, don't insult them or anybody else by showing your bluff. Muck your cards and stack your chips. It's like the difference between Barry Sanders and TO scoring a touchdown. Now that I think about it, he did it on the first episode of HSP too. For god sakes, nobody is impressed by your bluff. Just move on. I hate Jamie Gold, I hope he disappears off the poker scene soon.
  8. ^^^^ especially if u shove k/j after he re-raises a/k and obv hit your jack

  9. does anyone else think nbc needs to do something else with poker after dark to make it more interesting? the poker play is solid but I guess the lack of the audience clapping and all that other mess tends to stray my attention. furthurmore, I dont know who the announcer is but he is no sexton to listen to... there are real odd silences when these top players are making decisions with no matusow to make witty smart zoloft enduced comments
  10. more closeups of cocktail waitresses cleavage
  11. This would def be +EV, them or Shana. Percentages PF would be nice too, I always try and memorize them, and they have em on most televised poker shows, would like to see them here.

It was nice in the first couple weeks where there was a lot of chatter and entertainment, between Phil and Gus and all that, and then Mike and Daniel and company. A lot quiter this week which is just kinda an off week. It's kinda nice not hearing obvious statements every hand like Gabe Kaplan "Aces are a big favorite against Kings".

Also, do you think the players really bought in for 20k? Or is that like their appearance fee, and it's basically a freeroll?

I might get annoyed playing with Ferguson though. He looks at his cards, puts a chip on them, puts his hands on his chin, looks back at cards, shows to camera, and mucks 62o. Like I know it's your thing but for god sakes hurry it up. I did LOL the other night at the announcer when he was like "Ferguson is known as "Jesus" to many of his peers, our research term is frivelously working to find out why".

Overall, pretty good show for late night entertainment. HSP is much better though. Can't wait til Monday.
  12. Where can i get the latest episodes of PAD?
  13. http://www.nbcsports.com/poker/index.html

    Moneymaker is playing well.

  14. I'm a memeber on here but rarely post. I do however feel like this is a good time to post.

Money and I played together in the biggest game (5-10 NL w/ an option on the button) around Nashville when we both lived there and I will confirm that he is much more suited for live action than tournaments. He intends to keep constant pressure on his opponents by putting his money in whenever its humanly possible. I remember he used to take his option on the button and put anywhere form 50 to 100 on it just to raise the stakes and mve pople out of their comfort zone. Sometimes he gets his money in with the worst of it--still drawing--but he sends a meesage that your gonna have to react to me and not vice versa. Its no different than the method set forth in Super System.

He also reads hands very well. i swear he once won a 12k pot 3-ways with AT high (thats right the T played). One guy got in on the flop, Chris and the other boy got the rest in on the turn and when the river hit Chris announced that he was sure he had the best hand and he did.

Beyond that, to what the dealer from MGM said, Chris knows his place in the game. He knows where hes got the best of it and where he doesnt. he shows up for TV and Big tourneys because that is what he is required to do and its good for the game and when his day comes he'll probably pull off another win, but I promise it aint keeping him up at night.

It is worth also noting that he is a great guy and by the way, have you ever heard one pro say one bad word about him?
  15. im rooting for him. i would really lke to see him do well. people talk about how jamie gold should get some credit because you cant luck your way through that many people to win...i think the same could be said for moneymaker. when he won the field was smaller with a higher percentage of those players being pros. he played well and got very lucky at times. because of his good play and luck alot of people have more money than they ever dreamed by playing a game. he was a huge part of getting this game out to the masses. id would really like to see him gets some rewards for his contribution. he's not the greatest but he's a good guy. it's kind of funny to think he won 2.5 million and how huge that was. gl money.
  16. From what i've heard hes a really solid player. I listened to his interviews on the circuit and he said that he really hasnt played many tournaments sine he won in 2003. He said he plays maybe 5-10 tournaments a year and hes cashed and gone deep in a pretty good amount of them. He won the ME, and took second in the Bay101 WPT in 2004, as well as cashing semi-deep in a few WSOP events. Just because the guy dosent play a full schedule dosent mean he hasnt got game. He didn't really donk his way through the ME field in 03' either. I remember him making a call for his tournament life late, with 33 on a flop of all overcards, and he was right...

I think he deserves a little more credit!

  17. i had the pleasure of playing with chris this past weekend in tunica. i was seated to his left, thus he showed me a lot of his hands (after i folded obv). this guy was taking advantage of weakness everywhere. He was putting moves on tony ma and men the master. he really has become a good player and i give him a lot of credit.
  18. I was just going to mention that call he made against Dutch Boyd with 3 overcards on the flop. After he makes the call and turns over hand, Boyd looks pretty shocked.
  19. All I know is that this week proved that Jamie Gold is not a good player. He didn't have any bad beats or tough hands that would cause him to be short stacked and get knocked out like Mortenson with the queens early and he still got knocked out before blinds reached 200/400 with 20,000 starting chips. The best line from the show this week though was Jamie Gold calling Ferguson immediately on the flop with nothing and Moneymaker saying "Take Your time Jamie".
  20. Regarding his play in the 03 series vs. Dutch with 33. I have to say that might have been the sickest call I have ever seen. It takes a hell of a lot of balls to make a play like that and I think if he didn't make that call, he might not have won the thing (the call more than doubled him up and gave him a huge chip lead). Other calls might have been better but if he would have called and was wrong, he would have been OUT of the entire tournament (Dutch had him covered by a good amount).

Also, regarding the Bay 101 where he took 2nd against Gordon, the last hand where he called with JJ vs. AK and (I FORGET)... if he would have won that hand... he likely would have won the tournament as well considering all the chips that were in play.

I usually don't go out of my way to support a poker player... but Money's been getting mistreated and mislabeled as a bad player for far too long.
  21. Actually was a favorite over Gordon in that final 3-way pot in Bay 101. Here's the text from teh WPT website:

Now down to three, the price again went up, antes to $5,000, blinds to $20,000 and $40,000. Gordon, who had flirted with disaster early in the day, losing over half his initial stack, had rebuilt with steady, aggressive play, and now held a commanding lead. Shojaie, switching gears, found Td-6d, and went all-in for $230,000, probably neither wanting nor expecting a single call. Instead, he found two! Gordon, with Ac-7h, quickly called, and Moneymaker who exclaimed unless I have aces, Im folding, then looked down to find Js-Jc also called. When the flop came A-T-8 rainbow, Gordons arms thrust into the air in jubilation. For good reason: when the turn and river came 8d, 5d, he had accomplished something never before seen on the WPT knocking out the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in a single hand! Shojaie, in 3rd, due to his smaller stack going into the final hand, took home a respectable $103,300, Moneymaker grabbed $200,000, and Gordon took home his first coveted WPT title, and a $360,000 payout. Not to mention collecting that bounty on Moneymaker.
  22. he is definitely playing the best poker so far.. i didnt like the reraise on Ferguson, because it seemed so transparent to me (does a ten reraise right here? wouldn't a queen just call?) but it's effectiveness can't be argued. He seems to defend his blinds way more than the rest of the table and is definitely the only one who seems all that interested in picking up pots with nothing.

  23. Money makes the monies.
  24. actually I hit runner straight but close enough lol.
  25. Hes playing well and earning respect along the way. Much props to him, even if he looks like a street performer/hobo.
  26. For god sakes Money, you can atleast shave before you come on national TV.
  27. Hair cut wouldn't hurt either.

And are those the same sunglasses he wore in 2003?

Playing very well though. I hope he takes it down.
  28. They do have the hand %'s on there.
  29. God bless Chris Moneymaker.
  30. HAIR CUT= COMB

    SHAVE=SHOWER
