  1. Whenever i hear about people playing more tables 8-12-16,they suggest getting another monitor or 2,my question is i'm thinking of getting a 42 inch tv instead, why is this not a good idea?

2 more 24 inches will prob cost 500,i can get one big 42 inch for $750,but since i never see this mentioned and am not a techy guy i'm thinking i'm missing an important reaso here or am i?
    ty in advance for help
also if anyone knows how many tables fit with no overlap on a 42 inch?
  2. there are issues with the resolution on the t.v. i tried it b4 resizable tables, and you could only fit 4 large tables on the tv.
  3. monitors get much better resolution than a tv so you can fit more tables on a monitor and a big tv will strain your eyes more than a monitor

  4. ahh,that's why,ty for the data guys!

  5. if willing to spend the money 30 inch > 2 24 inches

  6. Well i want to 12 table, right now i'm 10 tabling on a single 22 inch, not tiling or anything just clicking at the bottom constantly scanning,so as only 4 tables fit on my screen if i were to tile which would be ideali guess i need 3 monitors total and i guess what they call a video card, sound right?

  9. Well,i don't want any overlap, and when i have 4 tiled tables on my 22 inch thats as small as i want them to get,so with no overlap and 12 tables, taking into account my 22 inch,,what do u suggest just one more 30 inch?

  10. ohhhhhhhhhhh no overlap...ok tyy got it!

  11. if your looking to fit more table with no overlap go with the higherst resolution you can find, generally a 30 inch monitor. If size is your thing and you dont care about how many tables without overlapping get a tv that has a vga input. Resolution is what matters most.

    I've got a 24 widescreen, tiles 12 no problem
  13. im talking normal size just so you know

  14. i see lots of misinformation here. it doesn't matter if your monitor is 15" or 30" or 60", if you don't support the higher resolutions, you can only fit so many tables.

on another note..on my 1680x1080 resolution i can 12 table with overlap but see most of the cards on the table...i can 15 table and see all of my hole cards....you can run 9 no overlap
  15. I had the same line of thinking as you and decided to try out tv's as monitors. I run dual 32" lcd tv's as my monitor's. This allows me to sit much further away and the quality of the picture is no different to the best "30 monitors out there.
As mentioned previously the most important thing is resolution, mine are 1920 x 1280 and I can comfortably 9 table (and at a stretch 12 table) with only a little overlap whilst sitting further away from the screens.
The greatest benefit to this setup imho is that if like me you often have friends / relatives round who enjoy watching or who you coach , they no longer need to huddle round a desk which I used to find clostraphobic but can instead chill out sitting alongside me in a comfortable chair or on a Sunday if only say 6 tabling mtt's I can blow them right up and chill on the couch.
I have no doubt that 30" monitors are also great but rest assured that tv's also work. To be honest the next step for me will definately be to go to possibly dual 42"s as the 32"s are good but I do feel even bigger would be better.
Hope this helps maybe I'll try posting some photo's.

  17. I have a 42" Sony Bravia, wireless keyboard/mouse, and can play 12 games with no overlap at all. I could prob play at least 16 and it would still look money, but I don't mass multitable like that often as my brain gets overloaded even when i can see everything.

Really though if you're in the market for a tv anyhow just get it and be confident that you don't need to drop another ~500 on extra computer monitors also.
  18. Well, that's what i want to do,but these guys were saying how the reslolution might not be ok,and one guy said with his he could only fit 4 tables,,,,fk it,,,gonna get a 42 inch,,,can always return it if it doesnt work!

  21. Like I said , don't be afraid to go for the 42" but it is ABSOLUTELY cruical that the resolution is as high as you can find it. Most tv's these days are HD and will say in the specs 1080p .... these are fine as the 1080p means a resolution of 1920 x 1080.
I also made sure the computer had an adequate graphics card ( I upgraded my new comp's ) so that it had two HDMI output's , I then just simply bought some high end HDMI cables and hooked it all up.
There are alternative outputs such as VGA from computer's which can be "crossed over" to HDMI but after speaking to a few buff's, the very best quality is from HDMI so I recommend using these.
How the hell do I post pictures here guys ???? :P I set the focker up but I'm still n00by really :O

This is very very wrong. I won't doubt the quality is acceptable to you on the TVs. Acceptable is pretty subjective. But to say a 32" LCD TV with 1080P resolution is the same quality is as a 30" LCD Monitor running 2560x1600 is simply incorrect.

  24. I don't want an arguement about the infinate details of electronics specs royal. As a fairly vague opening post I thought the op may benefit from my limited knowledge in this matter as I do indeed have 2 lcd tv's as monitor's.
I posted my opinion on tv's as monitors and the op responded. The fact that a monitor with a crazy high resolution performs better than a lower resolution tv is unquestionable... I merely wanted to try and let the op know that the quality on the vast majority of modern tv's is more than acceptable.
You are clearly upset about this. I apologise. I did not know that it was of life or death importance.

  25. All these replies have been helpful, and i now have a better understanding of what the heck resolution is and the differences between monitors and tv.

I decided to look up the definition of resolution for starters and basically seems to be the tv just won't have the same clarity as an lcd monitor but it is a matter of degrees of clarity.

So i may get the 42 inch bravia hook it all up and see how i like it.If i don't i'll go with another lcd monitor, maybe the 30 inch.
